L/V 10+ Tip of the Day #343 Search options; search proper names
Another tip of the day (TOTD) series for Logos/Verbum 10. They will be short and often drawn from forum posts. Feel free to ask questions and/or suggest forum posts you'd like to see included. Adding comments about the behavior on mobile and web apps would be appreciated by your fellow forumites. A search for "L/V 10+ Tip of the Day site:community.logos.com" on Google should bring the tips up as should this Reading List within the application.
This tip is inspired by the forum post: WOC search discrepancies - Logos Forums; Visual Filter for Names - Logos Forums
Search options:
- Red - match case (upper/lower case) applies only to text arguments.
- Green - match all forms (grammatical forms) applies only to text arguments
- Blue - reference matching applies primarily to Logos tags such as topic, theological topic, preaching themes, cultural concepts and similar items.

Reference matching applies only to datatype/keyword terms (except labels) where there exists an equivalent/similar reference value.
The search for proper names ... I have updated with Dave's update.
Dave Hooton said:This needs reworking to show current syntax and conclusions i.e.
Use SGNTSyntacticForce:="proper name" as the other syntax doesn't produce results.
To show what is missing from one set of results use NOT INTERSECTS i.e.
SGNTSyntacticForce:="proper name" NOT INTERSECTS louwNida:93.1–93.388 shows that "proper name" includes Place names (incl. "hell") and titles like God, Christ, Lord unlike the LN range which covers Persons only. If extended to 93.615 (for Places), SGNTSyntacticForce:="proper name" NOT INTERSECTS louwNida:93.1–93.615 now shows that the LN range does not include titles.
Orthodox Bishop Alfeyev: "To be a theologian means to have experience of a personal encounter with God through prayer and worship."; Orthodox proverb: "We know where the Church is, we do not know where it is not."

Dave Hooton said:Use {Section <SGNTSyntacticForce = prop. name>} section:SGNTSyntacticForce:="proper name" as the other syntax doesn't produce results. To show what is missing from one set of results use NOT INTERSECTS i.e.
<ln 93.1–93.388> NOT INTERSECTS {Section <SGNTSyntacticForce = prop. name>} section:SGNTSyntacticForce:="proper name" NOT INTERSECTS louwNida:93.1–93.388 shows that the latter omits 439 people names in the ESV e.g. Jesus, John, Abraham!
<ln 93.1–93.388> louwNida:93.1–93.388 does not include any of partner, serpent, workmen, wonder, grace, power, etc.
More importantly, it excludes instances that are not used as the name of a person e.g. God, "the Christ" Mt 2:4, "the Lord" Mt 2:13, whereas "Christ" at Mt 1:17 is Jesus.C
So I would use <ln 93.1–93.388> louwNida:93.1–93.388 for the NT.
This needs reworking to show current syntax and conclusions i.e.
Use SGNTSyntacticForce:="proper name" as the other syntax doesn't produce results.
