In Verbum, I was surprised that the Daily Devotional pulled up a Saints book -not the calendar of saints. (Yes, I figured out why.)

Note that handling of the Calendar of Saints (sanctoral cycle) is something Logos did well until the redesign that confused books of saints by date with calendars of saints.

The bar lacks the shortcut bar I hope that is unintentional

Just to set the expectations, the goal here was to redesign access to existing functionality, not to add new functionality.

Everything comes at a cost. If one uses the locator bar, you are going to tie up more screen space with this change, but I think that is a fair trade off.

It is possible to temporarily minimize the second level of the toolbar.

One small request, please do not lose the L4 links in the desktop app with this UI change. If you do this, you will break my ability to make links from Logos resources to my markdown notes.

Understood. Although we're also working on a way in which it will be possible to link to Logos using a ref.ly link, without going to the browser. That might give us the best of both worlds.

I know - but I will continue to nag, carp, complain, grumble ... at the functionality that was lost/screwed up in the conversion of the ribbon to the home page cards.

This looks really interesting and will be really useful.

This functionality was moved directly from the locator bar. In the web app, most books don't support as many step units (e.g. article, verse, paragraph, etc.) as they do on desktop, and we don't currently have plans to change that, but always happy to hear the feedback.

We debated this quite a bit. Your comment has made one or two developers very happy because they've been advocating for the same thing! The reason it's currently here it because the Go tab is the first and, therefore, primary tab. It's intended to be the place where most of the commonly used actions belong.

Should Insights belong in Go, because it allows you to go to your study Bibles and commentaries?
Should it belong in View because the user is choosing whether to view Insights or not?
Should it belong in Tools because the sidebar is a tool that helps you find related information about the passage?

I honestly don't know if there's a right answer to that question.

But this is exactly the feedback we wanted and the sort of thing that we might change based on feedback. At the same time, this new design might take a bit of getting used to, and we want everyone to feel they've not just kicked the tires but properly taken it for a test drive before we make any big decisions.

That's kind of as far as I could figure out... my top Bible was given a volume reference. In any event, on an iPhone??

This seems to have introduced a bug that messes up the view.

If I just click "Go" it returns the text to the proper size and formatting but I have to do that every time I change to a different resource tab.

I have noticed a similar formatting problem. If I have my NIV and NRSV open, and click from one to the next, I'm fine. But if I click to put, say, a commentary into focus (in the same tab as the Bible), then click the NRSV's tab to put it into focus, the fonts are very large and very pixelated.

Additional playing with this reveals that it (the weird display) doesn't only happen to bibles. For me, it tends to behave a bit better in Edge than Chrome, although I can see in the former a quick flash to weird display for a fraction of a second, but then it returns to a normal display.

Thanks for reporting this. It appears to be related to a separate change that happened to go out about the same time as the toolbar. We can reproduce it internally and are actively looking into it.

"Find in this panel" was not previously supported in web. Our plans for desktop include continued support for "Find in this panel" (i.e. Ctrl+f / Cmd+f).

I'm not fond of the new application tool bar. For quick actions open lectionary and open sanctoral cycle are standard for many of us. I would also expect a resume workflow and resume sermon option at least on the desktop.

Overall, decently done. The improvements don't excite me either for myself or for teaching others but I'll get used to them quite quickly which to me is a critical measure. So kudos to all of you who worked through this.

It looks like you've selected Request Desktop Site in Safari on your phone. That's likely to cause problems. To change this, click the AA icon in your address bar, and choose Request Mobile Site.

Our approach on this feature was to take the existing functionality in the web app and put it into a new toolbar. We tried to focus on building a new toolbar and limited the number of additional features that weren't present previously in the web app.

Our approach for the desktop app will be similar and we do not intend to regress functionality that currently exists in the desktop app.

Of course, we are always happy to hear the things that appear in that space that are valuable to you.

Desktop will continue to allow you to select which notebooks you want to turn on or off. We don't have plans to bring that functionality to the web app.

It hasn't been implemented on the web yet. As Nick says, we've concentrated on moving existing functionality into the toolbar. We haven't added any extra functionality. Rest assured, all the normal visual filters will remain available on desktop.

Quick Actions has been around on the web for about a year now and wasn't part of this latest work, but your point is well made. Right now, we don't have plans to bring Quick Actions to the desktop, but if we do, we'll consider making it more useful.

EDIT: Please don't worry about this - notes display fine on the web app on another computer so must be something strange in my browser. I'll look into it further.

We don't currently have plans to add any additional functionality/features to the web app toolbar that didn't previously exist. Our goal with this new toolbar was to change the look of it to make the existing functionality/features more discoverable and intuitive.

My vote would be to keep that "Tool" grouped with the Translate and Summarize tools the way it was in the previous version of the Side Panel.
Users will of course get used to its new location but keeping all of those together would in my mind help to keep confusion down to a minimum.

Also, in my mind, the Text Compare should go under the View menu.

Why?

Because View allows me to change my Visual filters (change my view).
I can view my RI (Reverse Interlinear).
And I should, from the same menu, be able to view the Multiple Bible Versions (Text Compare) display.

GO button does not represent its function as I was thinking about the reference box. It needs a different, more meaningful name.

We show the most recently used styles, but custom highlighting palettes aren't yet available on the web app. They will work with this toolbar when it comes to the desktop app, though.

The Highlighting tool isn't available on the web app. When this toolbar comes to the desktop app, a button to open that tool will be right next to the list of recent highlighting styles. You'll be able to click that button to open the tool and then use any of your styles. Because the toolbar contains the most recently used style, any style you use from the Highlighting tool will later be visible in the toolbar.

The multiview option (only available in desktop) is planned to go in the View tab, but that's different from the Text Comparison tool.

I think I must have tested it over refreshes of the Web App i.e. it reverted to default even though I had switched it off prior to the refresh/update. Otherwise, it does not come back.

BUG: I enter Lk 1 into the reference box of a bible, Select Lk 1:1-80 from the drop down menu, Lk 1:1 is the entry in the reference box i.e. -80 is lost.

I have played around with the new Web app layout, and I really like it. It's much more intuitive. I like the new location of the back button and parallel resources, and I see how this new layout could be easily built upon in a way that would not appear cluttered. Well done.

Quick question: Where are my inline interlinear options? I feel like that button should be located under the view tab. Also, less important to me, I didn't see the translate button where I would expect to see it (next to info in the Go menu or in the Tools menu). I don't know why this was happening to me, but when I logged in to my account, the format went back to the old layout. When I logged out, the new layout appeared again. Perhaps these missing options are related to me having to log out of my account.

Also, I agree with others who have questioned the naming of the "Go" tab. If I have understood correctly, the Go tab's main role is to function as the primary tab that the user utilizes. Thus, selecting a name or icon that identifies it as "primary" would be more fitting than labeling it as "Go." This would also enable the primary tab to be used for buttons/features that should be prioritized but don't pertain to any kind of "Go" function. Obviously the label "Home" is already taken, but something like that is what would feel intuitive to me, as in Microsoft Word. Perhaps the use of an icon could communicate that idea. My two cents.

Thanks for that report. From memory, I think we calculate these numbers differently on web and desktop (it's a long story...), but they shouldn't be out by that much unless you have thousands of empty notes (i.e. notes with nothing in the "Take a note" section). I presume that's not the case?

To echo one of Dave's thoughts, it feels to me that having "Insights" at the top of the info sidebar is an oversight. In my view, "Insights" should change to "Info" when the info bar is open.

Thanks for the new toolbar. I think it has potential but a few points of constructive criticism:

I find the "Reformat Text" menu confusing. First, maybe there is a typo but under Resource is it supposed to say "Bible text only" as it does in the desktop app. That would make more sense because when I click on that then most of the formating disappears except the actual text.

Now, in the desktop, all these particular options are under Visual Filters. But if we are used to calling them Visual Filters and now some or all of them go to Reformat, it could be confusing. Maybe it's just me, but I found the Reformat one confusing. And I wasn't sure where it might be going in future development.
Click on "Search" only to find "Find," which is actually a different function (CTRL + F) in the desktop app is also confusing. In the desktop app the wording is clearer. Both the full Search Window and the Inline Search function have "Search" as the greyed out text in the search field before you start to type. "Find" is reserved for the CTRL + F function. Please keep searches with searches and finds with finds. When someone starts using Logos it is hard enough to differentiate between the two, but now it is even more confusing.
The simple "Copy" command is not intuitive under "Share". It doesn't bother me much because for Copy & Paste I just use keyboard shortcuts. But many people rely on the menus. Normally "Copy" is found under an edit menu in a program. I realize Logos is different in that resources are not editable by the user. But if a user is looking for the "Copy" function I can't imagine they would go looking under "Share." Copy link, yes, but not simple Copy.

The current beta of Logos 34.0 on desktop is also introducing these changes - so the web app is consistent with the next stable release (due in about five weeks time). On desktop, the visual filter menu now has these sections

If I open the Notes filter in the Notes menu, there is a count of notes at the top as expected

If I turn off the Notes Filter, that count persists whereas I would have expected that line to be closed

It even persists if I select another menu - by which time there is no context for what it means.

I am finding Chrome (on Windows) really struggling with the web app with nearly everything I do with the new toolbar resulting in an error. Edge seems much more able to handle it.

This might not be fair but my first thought was "Oh no... what have they done now?" I preferred the old selection menu to the new insights menu, and I prefer the old resource toolbar to the new one. I would have preferred to focus on better tab behavior, an often-requested feature, rather than changing something that wasn't broken.

Personally, I struggle to see how this makes "navigating your books much easier than before". Like the new insights selection menu on mobile, it just adds one layer of menus to get to what I need. I used to just click on the visual filter icon. Now I need to click on the "View" ribbon, then Visual filters? How is that saying "goodbye" to endless menus and submenus? I really don't understand the benefit... It seems like a major loss of efficiency. I am genuinely curious, if someone wants to explain where it actually is more efficient.

Second, you say "We’ve simplified the layout and removed any clutter, so you can focus on what matters most - reading your books efficiently." Screen real estate is a precious commodity. As I see it, rather than allowing us to focus on our resources, you have increased the amount of space the resource bar takes up - not just one place, but in every pane! (I know you can collapse it, but that defeats the purpose of making them accessible, and you have to manually do it each time?). This is probably my main complaint.

Third, you say, "Clear Visual Cues: Each button is carefully designed to represent its function, making it easier than ever to find the tool you need." I don't notice many differences in the icons, but I notice that each icon also has a label. This might appeal to the new user who has never used a particular button, but as soon as they have used it once they will know what it is, especially if each carefully designed. I'm happy they collapse to the icon when the pane is narrow, but still, the words are not visually appealing, especially as they show up on every pane, reminding me of how much space the new double-row resource menu is taking up.

We appreciate your feedback, Robert. This new design is primarily aimed toward new users. We wanted to create a toolbar that everyone could understand and use almost immediately (without having to spend significant time learning). We recognize that this may disrupt the studying of our advanced users for some time, but we hope that this will also be an improvement to you all as you become more familiar with it.

That being said, we released this toolbar to the web app first so that we could hear valuable feedback like yours, before bringing it to the desktop app. Thank you!

I see the same thing - but I suggest you start a new thread in this forum to explore this further. It might get lost in this thread - and it may not be related to the changes to the toolbar (it might but we don't know!)

In the web app toolbar the Corresponding words option is under the Reformat menu

In the current beta of 34.0 on desktop, this option appears under Emphasize. Shouldn't these be consistent?

Desktop has many more visual filters than the web app. So all the web app filters are put under Reformat, whereas on desktop we break them down into multiple categories.

I'm not sure what you mean by index, but you can navigate the book using the Contents button...

I really like the new minimalisation of the tools.
I am a very new user of Logos, and have been frustrated by the way the bars, popups and the like seem to overwhelm the text when a few panes are open.

The new Insights looks to be an advantage to someone like me who is new to Logos and doesn't know how to find the way around all of those "Tool" sets and Guides.

I was pondering what to do about the subscrition service, but would be more inclined for this much cleaner look.

Mark, hello watching one of the New Early Access Logos with you and the other young man showing some of the new features in Logos "early access". This does not have a lot to do with what you taught, but I've reached out to Logos Team and instructor Shawn Grubb - on the Reading Plan, can we get a "Bi-weekly" option for any day of the week for reading or teaching in my case. I do a little reading and teaching every other Friday of the month. However, there's no way for me to print out a nice plan for the brothers at my church to follow. Can we get that option in Logos Reading Plan?

This might not be fair but my first thought was "Oh no... what have they done now?" I preferred the old selection menu to the new insights menu, and I prefer the old resource toolbar to the new one. I would have preferred to focus on better tab behavior, an often-requested feature, rather than changing something that wasn't broken.

Personally, I struggle to see how this makes "navigating your books much easier than before". Like the new insights selection menu on mobile, it just adds one layer of menus to get to what I need. I used to just click on the visual filter icon. Now I need to click on the "View" ribbon, then Visual filters? How is that saying "goodbye" to endless menus and submenus? I really don't understand the benefit... It seems like a major loss of efficiency. I am genuinely curious, if someone wants to explain where it actually is more efficient.

Second, you say "We’ve simplified the layout and removed any clutter, so you can focus on what matters most - reading your books efficiently." Screen real estate is a precious commodity. As I see it, rather than allowing us to focus on our resources, you have increased the amount of space the resource bar takes up - not just one place, but in every pane! (I know you can collapse it, but that defeats the purpose of making them accessible, and you have to manually do it each time?). This is probably my main complaint.

Third, you say, "Clear Visual Cues: Each button is carefully designed to represent its function, making it easier than ever to find the tool you need." I don't notice many differences in the icons, but I notice that each icon also has a label. This might appeal to the new user who has never used a particular button, but as soon as they have used it once they will know what it is, especially if each carefully designed. I'm happy they collapse to the icon when the pane is narrow, but still, the words are not visually appealing, especially as they show up on every pane, reminding me of how much space the new double-row resource menu is taking up.

Please check the language in your Settings. To do this:

1. Click on the three vertical dots in the bottom left corner.

2. Click on Settings.

3. Look at the Language dropdown.

Hi,

I am a student at Liberty University and I love Logos. I would like to request a "quick action" button that takes you from the web base app.logos.com to your computer's Logos App and opens the book in your App, instead of the website. At this time, Liberty University links all their books in Logos to go to the website app.logos.com. From there, we had to manually open our computer app and look for the page. A "quick action" button to open the Logos App's book page would be nice.

I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the app on the web after some time. I normally use the desktop version either on my Mac or Windows platforms, but happened to be using a Surface Pro X that has Windows on ARM that does not play nice at all with the desktop version of Windows, which meant I went to the web app. I had to do a double-take, but it really fell right into place with the typical menu bars found, say, in the Microsoft Office Suite of programs, particularly the View, Tools, etc., options. I find it to be a bit more user friendly. Standardization is most useful across apps/programs, so I appreciate it.

I just logged on to use the web app for the first time in a while and am really impressed with the dynamic toolbar. It works well and has quick access to my most used features, but I especially like the "Insights" button for quick access to other relevant resources without having to search or have them up already.

I am enjoying this new view. Its great. The insights are very helpful.

There are many books in Logos that have Greek or Hebrew words or phrases of text in them without a corresponding English translation next to it. I was reading a section of such a book and came across some greek text, not knowing Greek, I wanted to know what it translated to in English. I have also found not always do these words come up in an interlinear Bible.

I know I can copy and paste the word into the Go Box and set my search to Books and to Type Lexicons", but I thought surely there is an easier way to do this, especially if the idea is aimed at a novice or beginner user, and one who can't read Greek or Hebrew.

I tried Translate. Seems logical to me. Translate does not translate Greek or Hebrew, which seem odd, but what do I know.

A left click on the word opens a context menu that has no lemma info or lexicons available like the desktop app

I tried the Quick Actions on the Side Bar menu and selected Add a Dictionary but of course there is no choosing there so I can't pick a lexicon, only a dictionary opens.

What I would like is the web app or dynamic resource toolbar to have some easy way of accessing what I'm trying to accomplish here. My vote would be for the ability to left click and access it in the context menu as it is in the desktop app if possible.

In the web app if you have a analytical lexicon of which there are a few, you can double click on the Greek word and then select lookup and it will open the analytical text to the appropriate place.

Welcome to the forums. The dynamic resource toolbar's inline search only shows extracts. It does not have special navigation.

The highlighting tool has never been available on the web app, although you can still highlight text by selecting it. More highlighting functionality is on the Notes tab.

I'm sorry to hear that. You can toggle page numbers for most books in the View tab under the Reformat button.

This is a peer-to-peer forum and, unfortunately, I'm not sure what you are asking but I know it is possible to transfer the text to other software. You probably don't want to put your email address in as spammers may pick it up.

Late to this, but just wanted to share that I am loving this new toolbar. It feels like the update Microsoft Office did years back with the ribbon (which I love), and makes everything so much more intuitive.

Under the Notes Tab using the Notes Filter and the faceted categories on the left panel, not all notes show under each category listed there and I don't see a way of typing in a search for say a specific notebook like I can on the Desktop. How do I find a notebook that is not visible in the dropdown list in the web app?

If you click the currently "in-focus" heading at the top of the toolbar, the toolbar does close.

I love the Dynamic Toolbar, but I hate that it defaults to displaying the submenus. As a result, I find myself constantly hiding the submenus to create more space. Even after manually hiding all submenus, once you close Logos and open it again, you can start over again.

@Mark Barnes (Logos), could this behavior be changed to the submenus being hidden by default? Or at least that Logos remembers that you hid it when reopening the software?
