We have heard your feedback over the years about our custom e-commerce product search implementation and your desire for better search results. Therefore, our development team has been working this year to migrate to a best-in-class third-party e-commerce search solution. We are excited to announce that this new integration shipped last week across all of our e-commerce sites, including logos.com (you can see it in action at https://www.logos.com/search).
In our internal testing, the new search has been shown to return equivalent or better results for many common search queries. It does particularly better with non-English language searches and in returning results for partial matches for queries. It has more tools that Logos employees can use to refine our search experience over time to ensure that your searches get the best search results. We are also excited about potential future search features made possible by the new search engine such as personalized recommendations based upon purchase history, improved as-you-type suggestions, and more.
Several lesser used e-commerce search features were deprecated as a part of this migration:
-
Sort by Title is no longer supported.
-
Sort by Dynamic Price is no longer supported (this functionality was still in beta testing).
-
Sort by Percent Owned is no longer supported (this functionality was only available when filtering to Partially Owned products).
We are aware of concerns that facet counts do not match expectations when filters or sorts are applied and that counts sometimes change to different numbers when refreshing the same search query. The counts you are seeing are provided by the third-party solution and unfortunately it is not possible to make them consistent between searches. This new solution prioritizes performance of search queries more than retrieving accurate or consistent total result counts in order to guarantee quick response times for your searches. We are considering alternate solutions such as hiding the facet counts altogether for search scenarios where this problem is most evident.
We appreciate any feedback you may have regarding this new search implementation.
FAQ:
Q: The search experience looks the same to me. What changed?
A: The search engine under the hood is returning different products in a different order than before. The UI/UX of the search page is mostly untouched.
Q: I frequently used one of the deprecated features mentioned above. Will they be reimplemented with the new search engine?
A: Unfortunately those features are not technically possible at this time.
Q: Does the new search solution collect my personal information?
A: We do not send your personal information (username, email, phone number, etc.) to the third-party search solution.
Q: What data do you send to the new search solution provider about my search usage?
A: We send the following information: search queries and filters, search results you view and/or purchase, and product ownership information (ownership information is only used when signed in). This lets us suggest the best products for you based upon your previous search history as well as filter out products you already own. If you are not signed in then a browser cookie will be used to identify your search session.
