Is it still the case that Logos does not support installing the library files to an external SSD without fanfare or caveats that it is not officially supported?

- Thanks

I'm not a Logos expert, but I do know that external SSD's running through thunderbolt are extremely fast these days. But I'm pretty sure Logos is not going to support it. Maybe never. It makes no sense to add extra layers of potential failure to a very disk intensive task.

Better to move other data from your main SSD to external to make room. Or selectively install your Logos resources. The others will still run just fine with a good internet connection.

This was discussed not long ago here: https://community.logos.com/forums/p/221813/1291563.aspx

There are also many other threads. And somewhere I think there is a wiki showing how to use external SSD (not supported of course)

It's not difficult to write an installer that can handle path name options. I do not want it on my boot drive for more than one reason. Logos is the only major professional application I use that does not give me the option.    I have plenty of high bandwidth applications running on SSD, a full recording studio running dozens of synthesize instruments with no issue. All those apps have library managers that allow you to move things around as needed.

Some have used multiple partitions on the main drive.

This wiki page addresses installing on another drive: https://wiki.logos.com/Install_in_different_folder_or_drive. I have no experience doing this so cannot give you personal advice.

Thanks. I have read that before. What is off putting is the statement it is not officially supported.  I just do not get why Faithlife cannot manage an install/library utility.

I can't answer for Logos, but CS is expensive to offer, and I am sure they want to keep what they have to do as simple as possible. In addition, what you want to do probably very, very few Logos users want to do. Logos no doubt weighs this when they consider whether to support this option.

There is a work-around for the few who need or want it. So you can do it if you want to. There are probably a few users here who could offer some support if you run into trouble.

Logos is now insanely better than it was just a few short years ago. So is practically everything else on the latest Win and Mac machines. But non-standard installations drive customer support people up a tree. And no matter how good life is, an external drive is still going to be slower. I get what you are doing--all the IT brainiacs I know would cheer you on.

I think it's only a matter of time before an external install won't upgrade right and then you will be back doing a reinstall. Just a hunch after nearly 40 years with a computer. YMMV

You made me realize that I wrote my first program 59 years ago next month.

Yes, I just missed wiring boards although I did wire boards for collators.

In Windows, you can select a Custom installation and choose the path/drive that you want for the installation. But Faithlife will not support an installation to an external drive for reasons of reliability  e.g. will that drive always be mounted, will it be formatted correctly (has to be NTFS in Windows). I have done it successfully in Windows, but had to ensure it would always be mounted as drive E:, for example,  as external drives usually take on the next available drive letter. A mounted partition E: is different as that is internal.

So the wiki is a little confusing, is this possible on MacOs or no?

I am one of those who have Logos installed on a different partition of the internal SSD. I have done this for a number of years already and have used the "Custom" option of the installation routine with PCs running Windows. My Logos installation is on D:\logo, and I have not encountered problems that were caused by Logos running on D: rather than in the default folder scheme when it is installed by default on C:

It is not supported, but it is possible. Here is the link: https://wiki.logos.com/Install_in_different_folder_or_drive#Relocate_your_folder_with_Resources.2c_Indexes.2c_.2e.2e.2e
