I did a search on the topic of salvation. I have no results. What is going on? Am I doing something wrong?

Try it searching All Text instead, then click on the "Topic salvation" result. Search > topic searches specific areas of resources, not the topic of salvation throughout your library.

When I use all text there are too many results that come up. I am looking for the sections in different books that deal with that topic. Like in most systematic theology books they have a section called soteriology. My reference works should have headings called salvation, but when I search under just headings instead of topics I come up with nothing either. Using all text is not helpful at all for what I am trying to do, there are just to many hits that dont apply for what I am looking for.

I am hoping there is another way to get the results I am looking for. I appreciate you taking the time to respond.

You might try making a collection of the books you are most interested in - and doing a search only in that collection.  Here is the collection I use:

      (title:Topic OR title:Dictionary OR title:Encyclopedia) ANDNOT (title:commentary)

It may be two broad for you, but it is a place to start.

Blessings,

Blair,

In L3 there was a tool that did this called the topic browser. However in L4 Logos has chosen to not recreate that tool with the intent to try to develop a better way to get more accurate results throughout the whole library. The Topic browser relied on special topic tagging inside a resource but there were real issues with consistency with that kind of tagging. There has been a lot of discussion (older and more extensive discussion - See Sean Boisen's comments) on this issue and the good folks at Logos are aware of the need and are considering solutions, but none that I have heard recently.

If you still have LDLS3 installed you can use the topic browser there and it may be helpful.

That is what I ended up doing. I dont understand why I cant just search for the "heading" salvation, and come up with results. I know I have books that have the "heading" salvation. We have a lot of ways to search, but when I search the term salvation, I found that many of the features are not working properly. I headed over to topics.logos.com and found that a post on the subject has not been posted yet either. Hopefully, when I get through writting my paper on the subject I can post on it.

Blair, Peace to you in the Lord!  *smile*

I have a very extensive library; and when I search for salvation, I get "topic" under the results.  Not as good as L3, but it's somthing.

Do you get your dictionaries in your search?

Topic Search in L4 is not obvious and there has been a lot of debate. In short, use Basic Search as in the previous post or use the Definition section of a Bible Word Study   - see http://wiki.logos.com/Bible_Word_Study#Definition_section

Whilst it doesn't work with all "Bible" words directly entered, it can be used from the right click menu of a word.

The first time I searched I did not get the topics section. Although my content section came up. After trying different searches when I went back to the original search, and it did come up. It is a very helpful feature when it actually comes up in a search. I do not know why it does not always come up, but I have noticed in a lot of different searches that I do that it does not always show up.

or use the Definition section of a Bible Word Study

I did not think about searching it through the word study. I tried it, it was really helpful.

I think (not know) that a word has to be in the Logos Controlled Vocabulary to show in a Topics section. I haven't had trouble with inconsistency, however.

I could have had something set wrong on when searching the first time tonight for the subject. Topics do not come up when searching in a paticular collection (not sure if everyone's is the same) But there are times that I search for terms, and they do not come up in the topic section. E.g.

It is probably a vocab thing like you said.

Yes, I find it annoying that both Topics and My Content seem to require an Entire Library search.
