I am using 4.1 RC 2 and it won't sort my topical notes. The newer notes remain at the bottom even after I clicked several times on "sort".
"Sort" is used to sort notes canonically that are added to Bible references. It does not sort alphabetically.
Good to know, Melissa. I believe that it did work alphabetically in L3. Perhaps this could be put in as a suggestion for L4?
Blessings.
Could you add the suggestion at http://logos.uservoice.com/? Thanks.
Is there any way to sort the notes manually? I have several note files with many notes in them, and as I add more, having them order without rhyme or reason is quickly going to grow unwieldy.

Yes, you can drag and drop to order them.
Am sure I wrote a hack a while back to sort L4 notes by:
but wont get home till Saturday, to check my development machine. ..if I still have it will post in Files section
If I havent do you feel it would be a benefit to the community???
I dont recall seeing much call for sorting notes - all feedback appreciated...
I use the notes to record my journal entries, and would like to have this note file sorted by date created, or at least not sorted at all. I link my journal entry to a particular verse, and so when it is created, it seeks to place itself in canonical order among the journal entries. As the journal grows longer, it is increasingly difficult to manually drag the entry back into its calendar order. Any one know how to turn off sorting in a particular note file? Or any development in the idea of sorting by other means than just canonical order? I very much appreciate that my other note files are in canonical order, but not in my journal.

I haven't "suffered" automatic sorting. Are you adding a note by the file "add note" or through the right click "selection/reference"? The add note function doesn't sort at all, the notes are in the order created - what I would think you'd want for a journal
Thanks for pointing out that I do have the option of adding a note without subjecting it to sorting. The problem with that option is that there is then no marker in the biblical text showing that I have a journal entry related to that particular passage. The other problem is that I like to have my latest journal entry at the top of the file, and "add note" adds to the bottom.
I use my Logos 4 for journal entries too. I use the 'add note" on a verse and then just change the color of the note to reflect that it is a journal entry (since I am a girly girl I use the color rose!). I don't have any problem finding my journal entries when I do that. Hope that helps!
Is there any plan to add sorting options to notes at this time?
I have a large number of notes for a Bible book that I must have imported from somewhere because I don't remember entering them. The note titles start with references to verses or verse ranges. Since these were not created by right clicking on a Bible text and adding a note, they don't link to the Bible text and I don't really need them to. However, when I sort, Logos puts all these "non-linked" notes ahead of "linked" notes. So I end up with a linked note for Genesis 3:1 coming after an unlinked note for Genesis 50. Is there any way to have all the notes sorted in canonical order whether they are linked or not?
Jim - Does your note menu not look like my screen shot?
Jim - I read your post again and I think I understand your problem a bit more. Unfortunately, if i understand you right, you are wanting Logos to sort some notes "by reference", and others "by title." I think your only option would be to create new notes associated with the reference.
Sorry for taking so long to respond, the forum didn't send me emails of replies.
I'm using Logos Bible Software 4.3 SR-7 (4.30.0.1621) . On the drop down in my notes window there is only one sort selection "Sort", nothing like the options you show.

I am beta testing 4.5 and my menu does look like Alabama's so these must be options in the beta. Since you are using 4.3 that's why they don't show up.
Blessings!

That's what I'm trying to avoid. I have a large number of notes already there (not sure if I imported them or how they got there) that do not use a logos reference link as a title.
There seems to be no way to take an existing note and attach it to a Bible reference. As far as I know, I have to be in the Bible panel to create a note that links to a Bible verse.
Even then, I don't really want that many little colored boxes all over my Bible text, some yes, but not a large number.
I just want a note titled Genesis 1:1 to appear before one titled Genesis 1:2 in my notes file when the Genesis 1:1 is a Logos reference link and Genesis 1:2 is not. What actually happens is Genesis 1:2 appears before Genesis 1:1. But it is worse than that. Currently they put all the non-linked notes before all the linked ones and sort each section separately. It's like having two note files in one.

Thanks. I just changed my update channel to beta. I'll see if that works better.
Jim - I believe that this was a new feature of 4.5. I had assumed that yours would look the same since you were posting in the beta forum. [;)]
since you were posting in the beta forum.
I didn't realize I was in the Beta forum when I made my post. Thanks for the help though.
