I just reset my update channel to beta and something new is downloading. I'm on 4.10.4.511 while I wait for the download.

My only guess is that RC1 reset the update channel to default because that's why I started playing with it today anyway.

I don't think so. RC1 didn't reset my update channel to default.
According to development and my 4.1 RC 2 post: If you have 4.0d SR-2 installed, or 4.1 RC 1, and have not switched again to the beta channel, enter set Update Channel to beta.
