I have the Original Language package which has served me well, but no NIV or TNIV. When will the new NIV be available for purchase? If I add the old ones to my library would I also get the updated NIV? The only reason I haven't added either to my library is that it comes as an $80 bundle and I haven't been able to justify the expense. However I would add it, if the new NIV was also included.

I suggest you email sales@logos.com to get an answer to that question. None of us users will know the answer.

Certainly, but:

1. more than mere users check and respond to questions in the forum.

2. Answers to questions on the forum benefit more than the original poster.

I ask it here because I am doubtful that I am the only one who has this question, and some of the users may have already asked it and have information to share.

From my understanding now from another thread, if you have a copy of the NIV then the upgrade will be free.

You might be interested in reading the following thread: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/28219.aspx

It says NIV 2011 will be part of that free upgrade.

Hi Alan

If I understand that thread correctly it says that if you have a base package which includes the NIV you get a free upgrade.

So If you have a package which doesn't include it - such as Home or Original Languages (as the OP) - and have bought the NIV separately then I don't think you qualify for the free upgrade.

It would be good to get confirmation of this one way or another.

Graham

Alan,

As I understood Phil's post, this applies to the base packages that include the NIV, but it doesn't actually say you get a free upgrade to an NIV you have purchased seperately a la carte directly from Logos. Hence my dilemma

It seems to me that only Logos can answer this question. Why don't you call up Logos, find out and post your findings?

You're quite right. Sorry to be so dense; I didn't see that distinction.

Given that situation, I think the best thing would to be to seek clarification from Logos. If Logos and Zondervan have decided that NIV 2011 should be made available FOC for those who have NIV in their base package, then I would take the view that providing you have the original, then the upgrade should be free, whether it is part of a package or not.

I really have no idea as I am not a  Logos Employee but from my thoughts.......unless you get the "old" NIV in a package deal......I am wondering if Zondervan will even allow purchasing of this book.     Of  course I    could be very wrong and  there  will be no problems getting this "older" book.  I just have the thought that only the New 2011 NIV will be available for purchase....in electronic format.

True enough, I should have said "and post your answer here for the benefit of others." I've rarely seen Logos employees responding to things on the General forum. Developers do tend to answer questions on the Logos 4 and Mac forums, and Melissa and others chime in on bug reports and Bob and Dan respond to complaints about Logos. But the Sales people who have the answers to this kind of question rarely make an appearance on the forums; they are too busy actually processing orders.

I don't need the answer as I have NIV through a package, but I will email my sales rep and ask and put the question to rest. All this speculation isn't helping anyone.

Well, I asked Phil Gons instead of my sales rep and haven't gotten an answer yet, but I guess it's sort of a moot point. The answer is: You'll know if you got it. Users have already been reporting that the 2011 NIV has downloaded for them. So if you already owned the 1984 NIV but not through a base package, restart Logos and see if it says you've got new updates available, and see if it downloads the new one for you.

The NIV 2011 is a completely separate resource from the NIV 1984.

The NIV 2011 is included in Bible Study Library (KF), Leader's Library (KF), Scholar's Library (KF), Scholar's Library: Silver (KF), Scholar's Library: Gold (KF), Scholar's Library: Platinum (KF), and Porftolio (KF). If you own one of these base packages, it will download soon if it hasn't already.

If you have an equivalent LE base package, you can crossgrade to the new corresponding KF base package for free. The NIV 2011 is among the new resources you'll get for free as part of the crossgrade to KF for the base packages listed above, and it's the only scenario where you would get the NIV 2011 for free.

It will be available shortly as an individual download for purchase.

Thanks Kent,

I did email sales as well but nobody had responded as of yet. So it looks like the forums were faster!

That's because the one you e-mailed gave Kent the task of responding to your question so they wouldn't have to do it...Stick out tongue

Or maybe Phil Gons, whom I emailed, gave Kent that task...

The new NIV automatically downloaded for me last night (Jan 12, 2011). The "old" NIV in my library is now tagged NIV84.

Same for me. Big Smile

My NIV - Anglicised which is the oldest Logos resource that I have (along with NA26 and BHS) did not upgrade. I wonder if it is going to be produced. I hope it will be because the US English text feels a bit - well - less comfortable - with its less familiar spelling and vocabulary.

I hope they will produce one, but will presumably be a Hodder production and I do not expect it to be a free upgrade (unfortunately) as it isn;t part of a base package. Nice if it was though ...
