Using Logos Language Fonts in Word Processors

In an effort to have standardized language fonts among us Logos users we have tried to type a Greek or Hebrew Word using the Gentium, SBL-Greek, and other "test" fonts. They show ONLY in English. However, we can cut an paste from a Hebrew or Greek text and get them to show. Even then, if we try to modify the pasted word (suffix/prefix) ithe typed part only shows English. Language fonts from BibleWorks and PCStudy Bible will type and show properly.

Is this by design of these particular fonts? Are we trying to do something not possible?

Any work-arounds?

Paul, welcome to the forum. The Logos fonts are unicode which means they have a wide variety of characters; however your input device (keyboard) must be set to input Greek/Hebrew characters. The BibleWords and PCSutdy Bible fonts are probably not unicode but rather map Greek characters to English letters on the keyboard... an outdated solution which causes compatibility problems.

Go to http://www.logos.com/support/downloads/keyboards and download the Greek and Hebrew keyboards, install them and read the documentation on how to use them in Windows. Then when you are in a Word Processor switch to the keyboard you want to use. It will input Greek/Hebrew characters correctly in whatever font you want to use, provided that it is a unicode font with support for that language. Thus, for example, you can use Gentium or Times New Roman for Greek, they both have the correct characters

Thanks for clearing that up for us. Now, for those who use the more stable Mac platform[:D] where do we go for info on Mac keyboards?

Mac should have a Greek keyboard already built in, look in your system preferences/help file for how to change the keyboard language. Do you have an American flag at the top of your window, if there click on it and you should have the option to switch the keyboard language (this is if I remember my Mac layout correctly)

Use System Preferences to add keyboards and to add the flag in the menu bar, if you don't already have it. This is what it looks like in Swedish (don't know the correct terminology for this in English, I'm afraid):

Then, like Kevin said, you can switch keyboards under the flag, or, much easier, you can switch with cmd-spacebar, the same way you switch applications with cmd-tab.

When I first saw your topic in the list of Recent Topics, I thought you were referring to using the Logos fonts to communicate with others. Apparently, that was not your intent. Nevertheless, I think it should be noted that you cannot expect that simply because you have used a font which you received from Logos that others will see the same font. What they see will depend upon what fonts they have on their machines. Windows makes an attempt to substitute a font which will cover the language area you are using, but don't expect it to be identical unless they also have the same fonts.
