FAQ

How much does this amazingly awesome app cost?
- The Logos Bible Software app is available for free at the App Store.
Do I have to be a Logos customer to use the iPhone app?
- No. Our application is free for anyone to use and can be downloaded from the App Store.
Will the Logos Bible Software app run on my iPod Touch?
- Yes. The app will run on any device running iPhone OS 3.0 or later.
Do I need to be connected to internet for the app to work?
- Yes and no. You will need to be connected to the internet via your cell phone service provider or Wi-Fi to access all the features and resources of the app. With the release of version 1.2 we offer limited offline reading support. To learn how to make a title available for offline reading, please watch the tutorial video.
I'm a Logos 4 customer. Will I be able to see all my books in the Logos Bible Software app?
- On the day we launched the Logos Bible Software iPhone App we had nearly 3,000 titles for the iPhone. Since the launch, that number has grown to over 4,000 titles. We currently have about 10,000 titles available for Logos 4 which will be released for the iPhone as we secure rights and convert titles. To find out what titles are currently available, read this forum post.
How do I share a verse on Twitter or Facebook?
- When reading a Bible, simply swipe up and tap "Share."
How can I "bookmark" something I'm reading?
- When reading, simply swipe up and tap "Add to Favorites." To view your favorites, tap "More" from the bottom navigation and then tap "Favorites."
Is there a list of all the titles that are iPhone compatible?
- We currently have a text list of compatible titles. In addition to that, you can use the search bar on Logos.com to search for a specific title. If a title is iPhone enabled, an iPhone badge will display on the page.
Can I read my books offline?
- With the release of version 1.2 we now offer limited offline reading support. To learn how to make a title available for offline reading, please watch the tutorial video. To download your resources to your device requires an internet connection via your wireless carrier or WiFi. This feature is only available to customers with a Logos 4 base package.
I'm a Logos 4 customer and I'm looking for (insert book title), but cannot access it from the iPhone app. Why not?
- We have either 1) not secured rights from the publisher to release the title to the iPhone app or 2) have not converted the title to be iPhone compatible. With over 10,000 titles in our system, both steps of the process take some time.
How do I delete a reading plan?
- On the home page, swipe your finger across the reading plan you want to delete. Press the Delete button.
What is the product roadmap?
- Resource display enhancements
- Notes
- Highlighting
- Search enhancements
- Other cool stuff I can't tell you about
When I touch and hold on a word, I get the wrong information. What's up?
- If you have the book downloaded for offline use, remove the book (flip the switch to Off) and download it again. The downloaded book is out of sync with the server's reverse interlinear data.

- Yes. The Logos Bible Software app does not store any Bibles or books on your device. You will need to be connected to the internet via your cell phone service provider or Wi-Fi.
So it won't work on an iPod touch outside of a hotspot?

Correct. But did we mention it's free? :-)

why not charge for it and let us have access to your library and read the books offline.

What's the likely hood of downloadable books in the future if the Iphone app becomes insanely popular?

another thread says they are looking at offline, but its not so simple, it involves the publishers rights and permissions etc...

I guess the obvious question is - while some of the features obviously require net access, will future updates bring the ability to download bibles or other books to the phone itself for offline reading? Otherwise if eg you're on a plane, the app becomes unusable...
No rest for the weary... :-)
Yes, we did realize this would be the first question. And offline access is in our plans.
But a combination of issues -- the amount of content, the desire to not have to charge you twice (at the behest of either the publisher or Apple), and some technical concerns -- caused us to put this off.
(It's not hard to store your books on the iPhone. It's hard to implement our search engine, data type comparison system, data type parsing/rendering, cross-library searching for Guides, text comparison algorithm, etc. on the iPhone. We'll get there, but we thought you'd be happy to get some basic reading and searching going first. By offloading to the server -- where we can share code we built for the desktop app -- we can offer a lot more power.)
Also, keep in mind that some users have literally gigabytes of content, and this Internet-based solution allows you to work with every bit of it that publishers allow (we're still securing rights -- the list will change constantly) without having to explicitly download or manage the resources.

all I really care right now is being able to settle in at night and read on my....I mean my wifes Ipod Touch while my wife falls asleep. I should be able to do now...except I might need to update her to the touch's 3.0 software first from the sounds of it.

Bob... I would be more than happy to be able to read stored books without all of these extra features you mention above. Just being able to read my books offline when I am out and about would be great... I can save some of the fancier features for my desktop.Bob said:(It's not hard to store your books on the iPhone. Since this is just a "face", can you make it a web application available to any phone with a web browser? I agree with this decision as storing the books isn't a necessity for me. I would like to see this available for all other phones that have web browsers.

Okay, I am still a Logos 3 user, (have to secure funds for the upgrade) I have signed in on the iPhone app, will I be able to look at the books in my library, or will I have to wait until I upgrade?

I would like the iTouch to be able to read a Bible offline. I would also like it to beable to take notes offline that sync back to my computer once I come on line. It would be nice to also have some limited function on a basic commentary, dictionary and Greek/Hebrew helps. Very much like I can now do wit Olivetree program on my Palm. Or to be able to select what I take with me off line based on the amount of memory I have (like I may sync all my notes to my iTouch). Think Docs to Go for a Bible program. Docs to Go does not have all the funtionability of Office, but you get what you need on the road and it is in sync with what you have in the office and if you make a change it updates what is in the office.

Thank you so much for your informative answer, I know you guys are very busy. I seem to have most of what you listed above, minus the following items: #'s 8,18, 20-24, 26, 27, and 29-31. These will probably show up when licensing is obtained. Again, thank you all for your awesome effort and gift to the iPhone community!!!

How do you get the iPhone app to sync with changes that take place on the regular Logos 4? Do any changes that occur in a person's particular regular Logos 4 automatically become saved and that information is sent to the iPhone over the internet?

No. Logos has them all on their servers. They will send them to you via CD, if you really wan them. But there shouldn't be a need to do this. BTW, this includes all your licenses, even those from Nelson, Ages, etc.

Where do I find it?

You just do do a search for the iPhone app in the iTunes store. FYI you need to be running Logos 4 to get most of the books.

Looking for the Logos 4 engine, have the iPhone app.

Just go to http://www.logos.com. From there you can watch a video demo, read about features, and purchase.
Thanks!

So if the data is on the server anyways, when can we access it via any OS with a web browser?

How do I close a book in the app?

Exactly! If this is primarily a web app - it probably isn't too hard to port over to other platforms. The Palm PRE?? I've been hoping Logos would go portable for a long while now....! But am committed to open standards so went the way of WebOS instead of iPhone. Only a small percentage of market share, but growing rapidly AND has multiple carriers, instead of only AT&T. So... awesome job on the new app and Logos 4. But I'll have to wait to take advantage of it until a Pre app comes out (or a web-app address that is mobile accessible).

Is there a list of resources that ARE available for the iPhone app? Possibly one that can be updated as rights to more resources are secured?

CAn I suggest adding a question to the FAQ that says the following:
Is there a list of which books can be read on the iPhone app.
Answer: No. (or better and hopefully more accurate - Not yet)

Could someone please tell me where I can go to download the free Logos V4 engine?

Logos 4 / iPhone integration is a feature of Logos 4 base packages. Downloading the Logos 4 engine isn't enough to enable your Logos 4 books to work on the iPhone. You need to purchase a base package, or crossgrade or upgrade to a base package. (The "Minimal Crossgrade" is enough, and is $69.95.)
If you just want the 31 free books, create a Logos.com account and sign into it via the iPhone.

This is an additional point regarding the need for use offline. When I am at church, as good time to get to use the iPhone, I switch it to Airplane Mode so I do not get any ringing or signals sent through. Even if the phone just vibrates during a nice small group prayer it is quite noticeable. Airplane Mode avoids all of that. But then it also makes Logos stop working.I understand licensing concerns, though I would hope the agents of these concerns might understand that when I am out and about I do not take my desktop with me. I am not at home using the version there. So the bottom line is that I am the one reading the resource, whether at home or out, I think I should have access to it.
Anyway, it is a great start and I like the effort so far so keep up the wonderful work of making the Word of God more accessible. Thanks

I installed LOGOS on my iphone before I updated to Logos4. now that I have Logos 4, the phone is nor recognizing the books. When I do a search for things like the NET Bible or several other assets that I can access via my account on my computer, they don't show up in Logos on my iphone. I've double-checked my account. information in the Logos app on my iphone and it's accurate. What do I need to do to get it to sync with my Logos 4 account? I see threads that say it's automatic, but so far I don't see that it is.
Thank you

John, not all your books will show up in the iPhone app. As the FAQ says, there are about 2,000 books available for the iPhone (out of our 10,000). We are working on a creating a list of all titles that you can access on the iPhone (see http://community.logos.com/forums/t/5469.aspx) but don't have that right now. Likely the reason you're not seeing a title is that we do not yet have licensing to put it on the iPhone app yet. The best way to check and see if you are getting your books is to open your library and then click the library tab in the upper section:
Then click on the "more books" button:
If you have more than 61 books (or can click the "more books" more than 3 times) then you are pulling in the additional resources from your Logos 4 package.
Hope that helps.

I counted, just to see how close my list was to 61. It totals 149 books! I do not recall that I ordered all those books! I have the Leader package, but have been thinking about upgrading to the Scholar. If I am 55 now, I will probably be 105, before I can read all those books! Yep, definitely fun. I think I will buy some more......
But then, not all my collection is even on the list yet, either.

The biggest disappointment for me with the iphone app is no access to NA27 or NA26. Am I missing it? The app is of hardly any true value to me without one of them, however with them and morph it would be wonderful.

this is so stupid i can hardly believe it, it dosent work on ipod unless you are online, but when you read all the news on it, it sounds like it does, if one can get on line then use the computor. I never dreamed in a million years there would be not even a book , a bible to download and use. I just purchased a ipod 64gig to download and find out i am back to my palm and my old bible software. what a sap to think logos would have figured out a way to download a bible from my silver collection so i could read it. But i think someday ages or some other software will begin to find a way to do it, i dont think logos will ever because they are running with this new software, which is very good for the computor but no good what so ever for handhelds and they wil busy with that not worrying about hand helds. But i do wonder about the "free books" you get for signing up someone said you could download them to bookshelf and use them. i never did get them because i was signed up already and someone said well you have them already in logos, so another scam, if i had them then it isnt a free set that i just got....wow...who to believe these days...i have to go , my palm is charged and i have to read my nelson sofware in it .

not some of the books can be read off line, NONE OF THE BOOKS can be read offline, they never were intended to be read off line, you said your self, so dont try and lead people on, NONE OF THE BOOKS can be read off line and the bible reading dosent work either, not jus for me but others on the blog . So just say that you cannot use the sofware offline on the ipod. Dont miss lead anyone else.

You are right that this is a big disappointment. But until they do get it going, there are plenty of alternatives that do allow you to download and read bibles offline so search the app store for Bible and you will get a least half a dozen that are free and have some good content. Also the free ones allow you to add on books for a fee.

While you cannot "download them to the bookshelf" they are viewable when you have an Internet connection. Are you saying that when you are online, you cannot view any books? If so, it could be because you have not registered, have not properly logged in, or you do not have Logos 4.0 upgrade or crossgrade which costs a minimum of $69.95. The iPhone app is an extension of this new program.

Thank you. I do see now. I was expecting to see the other books in the bookshelf and, yes, I made that assumption that something like the NET Bible would be among the 2,000 approved titles.
I have to say that Logos 4 on the computer is extremely awesome. I'm truly impressed and excited about the improvements. The iphone app, though, is currently really difficult to use and so limited relative to other iphone Bible apps, it's really hard to utilize currently. With the slowness even on wireless of having download only and the lack navigability. I'm afraid I'm very disappointed. This was why I updated, but in practice I am finding it nearly unusable mainly do to how hard it is to navigate to a book and then how slow it is once I get to it.
Sorry for being brutally honest with my opinion re: the iphone app. The desktop version, though, is amazing if now outright revolutionary.
Thank you,
Scott

Could the ability to lock the screen from rotating be added in one of the future updates? I really like how the kindle app utilizes this feature. I like to read laying down and it always rotates on me.

Don,
Logos clearly says that the software is for an iPhone, which is different from an iPod. I don't think they mislead anyone. Some people just don't know the difference between an iPod and an iPhone and that confused them a bit. I wouldn't be surprised if the software became available for the iPod and picked up through wifi. But Logos has a lot on their plate right now. They are released things early so that some people can use it. Unfortunately not everyone can at this time, but something is better than nothing.
