Learn to Use Biblical Greek and Hebrew with Logos Bible Software

the video is very compelling but $499.00 is not.

why is this 8 hr course worth so much now when the pre-pub was only $190.00 i feel like i am being punished because i am young and was not as interested in bible study a yr ago as i am now, i may still spend the monies if i can be encouraged enough.

Call or email a sales rep and see if they can do you a better deal than what's on the website. Usually they can. That might make the difference for you.

The pre-pub program offers an exceedingly discounted price in order to encourage enough early orders to justify the company going to the work and expense of producing the product. So if you miss that period, don't think of it as being punished but just missing out on a special incentive.

Hi,

While, I can't sell you on "learn to Use Biblical Greek and Hebrew with Logos Bible Software"

I do have a few recommendations for you:

I'll start with Hebrew, because let's face it Hebrew is cooler, more useful, and lot more popular than Greek.

Want to Learn Hebrew(with audio) cheaply with Logos, then go with:

The First Hebrew Primer

http://www.logos.com/product/5780/the-first-hebrew-primer-textbook-answer-book-and-audio-companion

http://www.logos.com/media/flash/hebrew_primer/first_hebrew_primer_demo.html

And, if you just have to Learn Greek then you can cheaply do so with Logos:

Kairos: A Beginning Greek Grammar with Workbook and Answer Key (3 vols.)

http://blog.logos.com/2006/03/teach_yourself_greek_too/

http://www.logos.com/product/7863/kairos-a-beginning-greek-grammar-with-workbook-and-answer-key

Yeah, I feel that way when the guy at the next table gets to order from the 55 & up menu. Sleep

You could look at it from my side of the divide. I wasted a few decades of my life with other time consuming pursuits, instead of remembering my Creator in the days of my youth. Ecclesiastes 12:1   I envy my children who are very dedicated in their pursuit of God at a young age.

None of my comments helps with the price though. I don't know if Logos can drop the price for you, asking won't raise it Wink. But I know you can diligently seek God and you will be rewarded whether or not you get the video series.

Be sure to keep an eye on the Pre=Pub & Community Pricing titles. Check out these two:

Learn to Do Word Studies with Logos Bible Software

Logos Academic Training

If you are a student be sure to ask a Sales person about academic discounts.

You can also use Beginning Biblical Hebrew (logosres:begbiblheb;ref=Page.p_i or Beginning Biblical Hebrew) along with Hebrew With Heiser http://michaelsheiser.com/HWH.htm That is Logos' scholar Mike Heiser, who also does the Hebrew portion of Learn to Use… It is not the same content, but you can get an idea of his teaching.

You know I thought mostly the same about investing in Logos. I had the MacArthur Library disc and used Logos daily but never really explored it. When L4M came out, it finally gelled in my mind.

I had three semesters of Greek and one in Hebrew in the 1980s. I'm a bit rusty on it all, but it's something that you really want to have a good grasp on so the Logos tools get used. Language is the vehicle for the transmission of Godly wisdom and knowledge. The package has a price, the understanding is priceless.

Mr. Weaver,

I just purchased this software and will tell you that if you are interested in learning to do Word studies in either language, and get to a useful point in applying the language for bible study, then this set is worth easily $1,000 or more.  Of course this is my opinion and not necessarily the opinion of Logos or others in the forum.

Personal Opinion: This set has been worth every penny to me! Geeked

Please note that on the original prepub listing they included a statement about resource recommendations.
"Scholar’s Library is recommended. Also recommended, but not required: BDAG and A Concise Hebrew and Aramaic Lexicon of the Old Testament (Holladay)."

If you don't have at least the Scholar's library there will be some key Hebrew and Greek language related resources that will be missing from your library, making it impossible to do many of the things the videos are teaching. (So if you don't have a Scholar's Library package I would suggest upgrading to that first and then review as many of the free Logos and User videos as there are available so you can gain a better understanding of the power and abilities of L4.)

If you already have a Scholar's package or above and you don't know how to use the Logos tools and resources for language study, then (in my opinion) the videos can be very valuable to you.

The DVD's also help you get to know so much more about the abilities L4 has that you probably are not even yet aware of. I know that I have learned alot about L4 from this set, and I can keep going back to review it.

I would also suggest contacting sales to see if they can get you a better price on the set. It certainly couldn't hurt.

If you are just starting out, you might want to consider the current prepub Learn to Do Word Studies with Logos Bible Software instead. But even this product pages states the following:

  • Bible Study Library is the minimum requirement for Learn to Do Word Studies with Logos Bible Software. For the best experience, however, we recommend that you own Scholar's Library or higher and Vine's Complete Expository Dictionary of Old and New Testament Words.

Wow, I was totally unaware of Hebrew With Heiser http://michaelsheiser.com/HWH.htm

    Thanks for pointing that out.

Someone pointed this out in another thread a few months ago. It is like a classroom lecture after reading the assigned lesson in Futato. To me, it is a very good introductory course.

Wow, Heiser has videos (or a podcast) covering Futo's Grammar freely available online. and when used in conjunction with Futo's book(34.95$) it comes out much than my (89.95$) suggestion!

Please note that this free video has nowhere near the content and depth of the Learn To Use… videos. It is simply an instructor's comments on the textbook.

I do not want to mislead anyone here, nor do I wish to cost Logos sales. I purchased the DVDs on pre-pub and find the Hebrew set to be valuable.

Actually, that one was on sale just over a month ago. At half the price if I remember correctly.

Yes, I bought it a month or so ago for $250...have used it and really enjoy it...the Greek videos are not as good as the Hebrew (in my opinion), but I would recommend both highly.  The only gripe is the problems Quicktime have with playing some of the Greek lectures...it stalls and shuts down.  Maybe that is why they were cheap?  I read on the forums that those issues had been fixed a long time ago, maybe these DVD's on sale were older stock?  Anyway, it's only a couple of them.

I believe that updated videos can be downloaded. In your account under orders locate the "Learn to Use" order and click on the Order #. This will take you to a page where you can download the videos. Hopefully, these are the updated ones.
