http://topics.logos.com/Web_resources

This is a new reading list available to you within Logos that gives links to useful sites on the web. I've included some entries from a variety of people and threads on the forums. I would very much like people to update it with the sites they find useful. If you are not comfortable updating the reading list, add your entries in this thread and I will add them to the reading list for you.

If you think this is a dumb idea, feel free to offer other suggestions.

I like this - already added one resource - "wesley.nnu.edu", some Bible Study tools, and one section on "Hymnology".  Am  I following through with your ideas?  I have some more I could add, but want to make sure I am not missing your point.  Thank you for any feedback.

Blessings,
Floyd

Floyd, you are absolutely on target. These are resources many would like to have quick access to.

Thank you for posting the reading list.  I like a ton!  Since I'm not sure how to add (new user) I'll just post here and you can determine if it makes sense or not to add to the list.  First suggestion: http://www.papalencyclicals.net/  (although, can get from vatican.va)... might be considered redundant.

Thanks!

I will add them as they are posted here. Later I'll show you how to do it yourselfSmile

I have added the following text to the reading list:

This list of resources is maintained by all Logos users who wish to be involved. Note that the original sequence is alphabetical by topic and random within topic. Feel free to add and subdivide topics. To access this list within Logos:

  • open “reading list” from the library section of the tool menu
  • select "all lists" to open the search window
  • search for “web resources” in the reading list panel
  • this reading list should appear; clicking on the links will open the appropriate web site

Okay its far enough along to show people where I am headed. In real life I would have these as two tabs in one pane. The reading list gives me quick access to information that we think will be helpful to many of us - our shared resources. The favorites list as I have used it gives me quick access to the web sites or documents on my computer or Logos resources/tools that are specific to me. Put them together and we've created a very powerful add-on to Logos.

Now if we had the library grouped by collections to fit in the same pane size we could add a third tab and have the ultimate resource pane!

Great idea. I can't believe no-one's mentioned http://www.biblicalstudies.org.uk/articles.php yet - it's one of the best sites for biblical studies journals on the web.

Thanks for starting this MJ. I added a few sources related to Aramaic, Syriac Christianity, and Church History.

Something that was recommended to me several years ago as a free and useful resource is http://www.soniclight.com/.  Dr Thomas Constable (I have no idea who he is!!) has published PDFs of his lecture notes on every book of the BIble.  Has anyone come across this before?  Any thoughts?

Great idea, great work, MJ!

Some ideas/suggestions:

• It would be useful with a TOC at the top, in order to get an overview (especially when the list grows).

• A section for [not-yet-in-Logos] Bibles. Or if there already is a separate reading list for those, a link to that might suffice.

• Sections for Archaeology, Calendars, and Journals.

• I find the Manuscripts, apocrypha, early church writings section somewhat confusing. It seems to compete with Christian classics among others. Also, is alphabetical really the best solution? I find myself scrolling up and down, up and down to check if a link that's not included under one heading might be included under another at the other end. What would you think of something like this:

  1. General
    1. Web link collections
    2. Logos sites
    3. Language resources
    4. Encyclopedias
    5. Journals
    6. Maps, charts and diagrams
  2. History
    1. Archaeology
    2. General history
    3. Jewish history
    4. Church history
  3. Texts
    1. Bibles
    2. Ancient documents
    3. Jewish writings
    4. Pre-Reformation Christian writings
    5. Post-Reformation Christian writings
  4. Theology & Philosophy
    1. Bible studies
    2. General theology
    3. Interfaith relations
    4. Philosophy
  5. Worship
    1. Calendars
    2. Lectionaries
    3. Prayers
    4. Hymns
    5. Saints

• Some more links:

Does anyone have a good link for a Jewish/Gregorian/Julian calendar converter? I've got one, but I'd rather not link to it because I don't like the rest of the site.

Nope - but it was the best place to start until I knew what sort of resources people would add.  I like your organization and we'll try it and see how it works.

I've reorganized the reading list but I haven't yet checked that I put every entry in the right category. I'll add the new items and check the list later.
