HI there,
I've managed to break Logos to the point where it won't load. All I did was open the Verb River and then drag and drop this to the shortcut bar. This cause Logos to exit and now it won't load at all. Restarting the PC didn't work either. I'm guessing that I need to remove this item from my shortcut bar - but how? I've tried looking around in my data location but I don't want to fiddle too much. Any help much appreciated as it won't open at all!
Thanks,
Paul

NO sooner had a said that than I worked out how to fix it by renaming Local\Logos4\documents\<number>\ShortcutsManager\shortcuts.db..
What did you change when you renamed the shortcut? Does it work now?

SUGGESTION: If you don't know what we are talking about try dragging a command prompt to the shortcut bar... :)

Second thought, don't try that because it will prob. crash your V4...

Try
Normal 0 false false false
XP - C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Local Settings\Application Data\Logos4
Vista/Win7 - C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Logos4

HI guys,
Here are the full steps I took:
I'm on Win 7 so not sure if this will work on XP but follow Dave's instructions for the first 2 steps. Hope this helps,
In general try holding Ctrl key and starting L4. Choose blank layout, Sign In and see how you go from there (you should be able to select a layout dated prior to the disasterous event).

Paul Meathrel: HI guys, Here are the full steps I took: Start -> Run and in the location box type %APPDATA% and press Ok Navigate up one level go to Local\Logos4\Documents\<Random Numer>\ShortcutsManager In this directory is a file called shortcuts.db rename this file to x_shortcuts.db Reopen Logos and it works fine I'm on Win 7 so not sure if this will work on XP but follow Dave's instructions for the first 2 steps. Pleased that we were able to help! :)
Paul,
thanks for helping...don't forget to post that on the Wiki.... :)
Edit: We've reproduced this issue and will address it in an upcoming service release.
Whew! This saved me a (another) long wait the support queue! Thanks Paul, this worked in XP. The path was slightly different but it works and I am back on track!!
Blessings,
Great! I've done it again! ...CRASH...
Was dragging a command prompt to the short-cut bar and managed to crash V4 again and it keeps crasing when I try and open it... (I thought the prob was fixed, because I had seen today where people were doing similar things, or so I thought)
I went through and tried to rename that file again, to no avail...
Any suggestions????
Jeremiah,
I'm sorry you're having that problem. I am not afflicted with that issue. In the long run you'll have to await the fix Jacob Carpenter mentioned, probably in SR6 if I had to guess.
For now, Look at Paul Meathrel's repair steps near the start of this post. It involves deleting shortcuts.db.
Sarcasm is my love language. Obviously I love you.

I am certainly aflicted! I had gone through that particualr "repair" process last Friday. I went back today, and tried it again (it was already renamed to the x_shortcuts.db) naming it z_shortcuts.db, but it didn't help. I'm goign to try and restart my comp to see if that helps.
Thank you for your speeeeedy response Thomas... <---
