" However, once you open a book, the navigation bar disappears and is not accessible.  I hope Logos is able to correct this problem."  There is an inverted "v" at the bottom.  Click that and the Logos menu appears.  That is the usual way many Android apps work.

" And now it is telling me that it is using the Cloud. I wonder if the Amazon Cloud will now be used, saving me space on my Kindle Fire?  We will soon see. "  That "Cloud" is the Logos Cloud, not the Amazon one.

Click on the far right ">" for any book and you can download it to your Fire.  You can open books on the Device or on the Cloud but their location is not clearly indicated in the Library.  Also, many books like the Bible Knowledge Commentary do not appear in the available Library.  Our Notes also do not appear in the Library.

We need the ability to enlarge fonts like in the Tecarta.  The present font is way to small for my comfort. Also, we need to be able to use parallel windows in Landscape Mode with different resources and the ablility to link them.  Commentaries, dictionaries and alternate Bibles should be available in any of the two columns.

Automatic scrolling of text is very important to keep up with Bible studies in Church.

Finally, very high compression is required for downloading a lot of books.  The Fire only has 5 Gb of space for downloads plus another 1.54 Gb of space on it's non-removable SD.  The NIV Logos 1984 NIV plus the App used .04 Gb.  I'm down to 5.61 Gb available from my beginning total of 6.54 Gb.  If you use a USB cable to connect to a PC, you cannot see the 1.54 Gb on the SD card - only the 5 Gb in the main memory.

I uninstalled the Logos App and it's related data since otherwise new versions will just add to the totals - not replace them.

Sir Maru:

Some of my first impressions:

1. The fonts were small and could not be changed or enlarged.

2. I did manage to download the NIV 1984 and Easton's Bible Dictionary.  I could not find online The Bible Knowledge Commentary.

Sir, So you know, the Bible Knowledge Commentary (BKC) is NOT available in Mobile format.  That is not a problem with the Android port of the program.  It effects the iOS (Apple iPad/ iphone) application as well.  I am not sure what the hold up is with the BKC set, but it is disappointing it is not available for those of us who purchased it through Logos.  It doesn't give me a good impression of David C. Cook Publishers for not allowing access to mobile devices.

I am sure a program like Tecarta has its pluses, but being able to read my resources on-the-go is the main reason I have Logos for Android. Some stand alone Bible apps (be it YouVersion, OliveTree, ANDBible, or Tecarta, etc) can be very useful to have for quick navigation of Bible Passages and comparisons, etc. But for anyone with more than just a moderate investment in their electronic resources, Logos is THE must have Bible App.  Though I can appreciate what you are saying about some bugs with the current Logos Android app, the lack of BKC is not one of them.

It seems short sighted, to me, for Churches to disallow access to wifi in their building.  Goodness, for anyone who wants to have access (and they support the church financially) it is often for the use of Bible Software on their phones/tablets... they would be wise to offer it.   Alas, my own church is in the same boat.. I wouldn't have access if I weren't also teaching there. While "security" may be an issue, a second wifi network can be established with a fairly low cost to the church.

So JJ Miller,

What do you think? Is it time to pull the trigger and load this up on my fire? I think so...this is exciting. Thanks for all the posts. I really appreciated it.

I agree and the only Bible Program I use on my PC is Logos.  Its the best of all of them.  There is no question that for me my PC is my main source of Bible information and Logos provides the answers there.

However, I have noticed that for the Kindle Keyboards the only Bibles with rapid searches are those programmed by Osnova.  For the Kindle Fire I tested several and the ONLY one to really give great functionality is Tecarta.  It appears different Bible publishers are specializing in different platforms and each excel in their own preferred medium.

I have learned to adopt to the widely different approaches to Bible uses in all the different mediums.

It would be nice if our Notes could be made exchangeable between all the different mediums.  Its just not efficient to have to retype them over and over again every time a technology break through happens.  For the Kindle one way to send the Notes to their books is to copy them from Logos, paste to Word and then send the Word Document to the Document email address in one's account at Amazon.  They have a different email address for the Kindle Keyboards and the Kindle Fire.

Then the Notes appear in full Kindle format on one's device.  However, to access them, one must switch back and forth from the Bible App to the Book containing one's Notes.

It's my understanding that this is what Logos intends to do. Do you have other information?

9.2 is now available and works on my Kindle Fire nicely. The problems unique to Fire seem to have been corrected. You can go to the discussion on 9.2 and there is a link to go to, since the market cannot be used.

MJ is correct, once sync v2 comes out, this will be the case once Logos 4.5 get out of Beta testing and becomes a stable release on the desktop, they will then include Notes and Highlights on the mobile platform. At least this has been what we were told on the Apple side of the mobile apps, I think this would also be the case for the Android.

Blessings,

Philana

I see that the Logos App is available in Amazon's AppStore.  And it does download.  However, I would love to know if someone has been able to download and run it that way.  I tried and it froze after downloading and trying to install and update my earlier (sideloaded) Logos for Android app.

I don't know if it was a problem because of my earlier sideloaded app, or if we must still get the APK directly from Logos's Forum (see listing for Logos 9.2 beta 2 for download link).  I went to this latest link and installed it on my Fire (didn't need Easy Installer App anymore), and it works fine now.

I haven't tested it with anything intricate, since I don't use Logos for Android for serious Bible Study... but it allows me to check Bible passages, do simple searches, and... most importantly... read my resources while out and about.

You can download the Logos Android App from the Amazon App Store and it installs fine.  However, one must first uninstall the prior version. Its best to uninstall prior versions before installing upgrades since they do not replace - they add on and may clash.

I had earlier side loaded the beta 0f 9.2 on my Kindle Fire, and it worked Fine.  When Amazon App Store released 9.1 I tried to replace the 9.2 beta with the 9.1. in order to prepare for future upgrades. Somehow in the process I screwed up the K Fire and I could no Longer install an app.  I  then did a hard reset which returns the K fire to the factory defaults.  After re installing my apps including Logos 9.1 from the cloud my K fire is working Fine.  Now I am waiting for the Amazon App store to update the Logos app to 9.2

Glad to hear you are back to normal with your Fire.  Can I ask you what you mean by "I could no longer install an app."   Do you mean that no new apps were able to install?  If so, what did it do?  Did it give you any messages?

I need to check to see what the differences are between 9.2 and 9.1 to see if I would be missing anything... but if does sound like one must completely uninstall the previous (sideloaded) app of Logos, before trying to download the 9.1 app from Kindle's AppStore.

Thanks!

For others, here is the process as described by Amazon for replacing a previously sideloaded app with one from the Amazon Store:

To resolve the issue, please follow the below troubleshooting steps as it might clear any intermittent problems:

1.Uninstall the app:

1. Tap “Apps” from the Kindle Fire Home screen
2. Tap “Device” to see all apps the have been downloaded to Kindle Fire.
3. To uninstall an app, long-press (press and hold) the image and select “Remove from Device.”
4. Tap “OK” to confirm you’d like to uninstall the application.

2.Reset the Kindle Fire:

Performing a hard reset on your Kindle Fire may resolve intermittent issues like a frozen screen, battery issues or trouble downloading content to your Kindle Fire.

To perform a hard reset on your Kindle Fire, press and hold the power button for 20 seconds and then release. After the device has completely turned off, press the power button to restart your Kindle Fire.

If your Kindle Fire is still unresponsive, try charging your Kindle Fire before trying to reset the device again.

3. Clear Storage:

Before installing the app, please also make sure to clear data in the storage.

To clear the data in storage:

1. Click on the "Settings" which is located at top right hand corner.
2. Click on "More"
3. Click on "Applications"
4. Select "Filter by All applications"
5. Click on "Appstore"
6. Select clear data (under storage)

4.Reinstall app from the Cloud:

You can find apps you already own and download all apps available on Kindle Fire immediately after connecting it to Wi-Fi. If you received Kindle Fire as a gift, you’ll need to first register your Kindle to your Amazon.com account.

Once connected, view your previously purchased apps by taping "Apps" from your Kindle Fire home screen and select "Cloud." Long-press (press and hold) the app you'd like to download and select Install.

If you are still unable to download the app you purchased, please give us a call so we can try some real-time troubleshooting and isolate the issue. You can reach us by phone directly and toll free from many countries by clicking the Contact Us option in the right-hand column of our Kindle Support pages at:

If you haven't pulled the trigger for the Kindle Fire, you can do so today (Dec 1 only) with a Master Card and get $10 off plus another $10 credit for future purchases.  See Amazon's homepage.  No, I don't work for Amazon.  Big Smile

I see that the issue of hard reset has been covered.  Let me add to my sad story.  Today I noticed that The Logos App had been updated to 9.2.  Not clearly understanding that I should have gone to Apps, Store, Menu, My Apps, Update and Updated 9.1 to 9.2 I uninstalled 9.1 and tried to Install 9.2.  Bad decision.  Once again the Kindle was screwed up and I would not let me install 9.2.  After a phone call to tech support ,who could not help me,  I did a second hard reset..  I was then able to install 9.2 and had the fun of re installing all my other Apps.  9.2 seems to be running very well.

I have the logos app for both Kindle Fire and IPod Touch. I must say the IPod version is much much better. Will the android/ Fire version be that cool one of these days?

that's one of my questions as well.  I have picked up that, overall, the iOS is better than the Android version, even though the latter is still being improved and catching up.  What I wonder, however, is how well the KF app will be, since it apparently runs on an earlier Android version.  Will it get stuck or become obsolete somehow?  Not being a techie, I have no clue what the implications are.  Anybody know?

Now that my Logos/K Fire seems to be working I have a question.  Can anyone tell me how to link a word in the bible text to Vines?   I can see how to bring up a word study by pausing over a word, but it doesn't seem to link to Strongs.
