Whenever I get a book in Logos I add it to my Book List in Excel. It helps me keep track of the books I own and in what format. I just added the Perseus books recently and thought I'd post the file here to the forums in case anyone else wanted it.

Each line has the title, author, subject (broadly categorized), and what collection it is in.

I haven't yet gone through and added the translator or what language the resource is in yet, but I may do that in the future. Each entry corresponds to each resource file downloaded in the collection, so if there were 1,114 volumes in the Classics Collection, there should be 1,114 entries for it in the list.

I've got numerous other collections too that usually include ISBN numbers (where applicable) if anyone is interested. I have them arranged by Logos collection for easy reference. Let me know what collection you're interested in and I'll post the file for it if I have it. Some are listed below:

Anchor Yale Bible Reference Library
Ancient Christian Commentary on Scripture
Barnes' Notes on the Old and New Testaments
Calvin 500
Classic Commentaries and Studies on Genesis
Desiderius Erasmus Collection
Evangelical Exegetical Commentary
Francis J. Hall Theology Collection
IVP New Testament Studies Collection
New International Commentary on the Old and New Testament
Qumran Biblical Dead Sea Scrolls Database
The Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges
The Harvard Classics and Fiction Collection
William Mitchell Ramsay Collection
Works of Robert J. Breckinridge
Zondervan Bible Reference Bundle 2

Excellent idea.  I am impressed.

John,

Here you go: 8037.Anchor, Erasmus,Dead Sea, Cambridge and Ramsay.xlsx

And here is a file that just has everything, minus the Perseus stuff. In addition to the individual collections I've added over the years, the file also includes all of the resources in the Scholar's Library collection. I have added a "series" tag to various resources in the Scholar's Library, but I have not yet gone through and added a "Logos Collection" tag that designates a book as part of the Scholar's set.

7522.Full Book List.xlsx

When I compare the number of resources in my list with the resources in my Logos Library, my list is off by one resource. I don't know what resource I missed, but maybe one of these days I will go through and find it.

I hope these are helpful!

Greg

Your a star, many thanks.

I must confess I actually like playing with excel files more than anything else. The beauty is I can have several open at the office, some are work and some are not.....Perhaps I should copy and paste the actual book texts into excel I might read more!

Looking at some of the posts recently (and a few months ago) I really felt the forums are best avoided but then you get ones like this which makes you realise what you would miss.

Thankyou.

John

How did you get the ISBN number into XL??

This is useful as I use Readerware and wanted to keep 1 storage library  for all my paper & electronic books but need the ISBN number for this - this goes a long way to doing that

James,

I did it the old fashioned way: Opened up each individual resource and copied it to the Excel file. It certainly takes a while, but I don't know any other way to do it. I actually enjoy cataloging all the public domain resources because most of them don't have an ISBN number, so the process goes a lot quicker!

As for the other information, if you sign into your Logos Account information and click on the "Orders" tab and scroll down to the section labeled "Downloadable Libronix Files", You'll find a list of all the individual files in your library. This is a good way to get the book titles very quickly. I usually select them all and paste them into a plain text file to get rid of any embedded hyperlinks, then I remove any extra text that I don't want and paste that into an Excel file. To add the author I go to the product webpage and copy it from there.

So you found the ISBN by copying it from  the resource that you had opened in Logos 4?

Yes. It takes some time.

Greg, you really are a star.  I've been "mulling over" this post for some time now; and I thank you profusely.  I also have an extremely large library; and I hope to "work from your labours of love" to achieve an expanded exel file for my resources.  I want to include when I acquired them, what I paid for them at that time and , what they are worth to replace at a certain date (for example - 2011-12-31)

This would most certainly be a blessing to my family if the Lord "Calls me Home!!!" before I made arrangements for the proper transfer of my resources to a chosen Pastor Friend or a potential buyer or as a donation for income tax relief to a congregation or a Chosen Seminary for the sole use of Pastor/or/HeadElder or Chosen Professor according to the Tax Laws of my beloved Canada.

My skills on Excel are pretty poor; however, hopefully I can enlist my daughter's help on this file when I visit her next month at her Condo on Grand Cayman!  (her treat to my wife and myself!)  *smile*

Peace to you!  Peace to all!      and .....         ......  Always Joy in the Lord!       *smile*

                                                                                                                            Galatians 1:3

Philippians 4:  4 Rejoice in the Lord always; again I will say, Rejoice. 5 Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand..........

Hi Greg!

Thank you so much for sharing your work on your full library listing of ISBNs. Any chance you've taken the time to add the ISBN numbers for your Perseus collection yet? Don't want to be a lazy bum, but if you've already taken the time to type them in and you're willing to share, it'd be nice to benefit from your work!

Thank you again for the ones you've already done!

Titus

Titus,

I haven't done much with the list since I posted this. I've been very busy with work and other stuff, but hopefully that will be changing soon!

Regarding the Perseus ISBN numbers, since many are from public domain resources I don't think there are a lot of ISBN numbers to worry about.

I haven't had the chance to include translator and language information yet either, but its still on the list of things to do. I'm not sure when I will get to it though, as I'm planning on starting an excel file comparing the works included in the Early Church Fathers set with various other collections of patristic writings, such as the Ancient Christian Writers and the Fathers of the Church series.

But for any changes I do make, I will certainly repost when its finished!

Greg

Greg, Yes I understand the busy life dilemma....hence late nights with less sleep, but hopefully I'll buy less massive collections that require immense times of concentration to catalog!

I actually did more thinking about my own cataloging system and decided not to include ISBN numbers. That decision was later confirmed by your reply that there aren't too many ISBNs to begin with. But thank you for your help with all the data in the other sheet!

Hope your cataloging time goes smoothly and well!

Titus

Thanks Greg, this file is very useful

I first tried to copy the library listing view in Logos to Excel. It did not work out, but I think Logos should implement that functionality.

Then I found your list in the Web, it helps a lot!
