In taking notes in the Old Testament I find that Logos 4 does not save the complete note.  To keep from loosing the note I have to save to pages outside of Logos.  Is there a limit to the size of the note files?  Where is the note file saved?

Hi Stewart - and welcome to the forums

There is no limit that I am aware of - the actual notes are stored in a database (not in individual files)

I don't recall a problem of this type being reported before, can you provide any more details?

Thanks, Graham

Initially I did not have a problem until my note file became very large, then when I closed Logos and signed back in, the note file would not show the previous notes that I had typed.  At this point I created another note file just for that book instead of trying to use one large file for all the notes.  When I did this only the first couple of notes would be save and after that none of the notes type  would be saved.  If I started to take notes on Psalms only the first 25 words would be saved after that none would be.

Hi Stewart

Sounds very strange!

Need some of the Mac specialists to comment on this.

Just one thought - do you have a lot of free hard disk space or are you running out?

I have only about 10GB of free disk space.

Try clicking on Full instead of Compact.

If fgh's suggestion of "Full" instead of "Compact" doesn't work, can you give another screenshot with the beginning of the note.

I found that changing to full did not solve my problem. Below is a screen shot.

Am I right in understanding that you have created a single note file with pages & pages of notes on Psalms? The note feature was not intended for such a purpose! You could probably get away with creating a note file for each Psalm itself, but not for the entire book.

A better solution for you might be to create a personal book using PBB.

That was my plan to have a single note file for the entire book of Psalms.  I have created a note file for several old testament books also.  These were combine into one note file, after I had done this them this problem occurred.

This personal book file is this created in Logos, I am not aware of such a process?

Personal Books are created using .docx files and are compiled within Logos. They are then fully searchable documents within Logos. I am on my iPhone... I'll try and explain more later. You could also try looking up PBB in the Logos Wiki.

This sounds like you create the book outside of Logos using a word processor then bring that book back into Logos using the PBB command.  In reviewing the help on PBB I did not see Logos supporting pages.

While the notes function may not be intended for such heavy use, it's very disconcerting that notes are being lost! The right solution may be to create a Personal Book, but this should also be reported as a bug. I'd love for a developer to weigh in on this thread.

Yes. If you like to write within Logos, you could do what you are doing, but when you are finished for the day, cut and paste into your Word doc.

Any program that creates .docx (which is the newer MSFT Word format) files can be used. You can use pages if you would like, but ultimately it will have to be exported to another program. I hope Apple releases an update to Pages soon which allows for this format!

By the way, there are free alternatives to Microsoft Word which can save .docx files, such as LibreOffice.

Personally, I don't think so. Notes were not meant to write an essay or book… they were meant to create short notes. I would think that you are pushing it if you take your notes past a couple of pages.

Bob said at one time that he doesn't want to create a "word processor." I'll see if I can find it.

I agree on the purpose of notes, but this is still a defect in the software. They don't need to develop a word processor here, the proper fix would be to make it fail gracefully: for example, a "your note is too long" error message while typing, rather than allowing the input and subsequently losing it.

My job is largely prioritizing bugs and enhancements for developers and trust me, if I tried to pass this off as "working as intended", said job would be in danger. ;)
