Andersen-Forbes
I'm not sure why my Andersen-Forbes syntax database is version .90 when the Andersen-Forbes website says, "The A-F database of August 2010 (v0.95) is part of the current Logos release."
Can someone comment on this?

There is a possibility that Logos is working on a new version. It is also possible that the website is simply wrong.

Hi Brian
Check the title page - I think you will find it says 0.95 - even though the Logos title field reports 0.90!

Well, mine says ‘90’, Andersen, Francis I. and A. Dean Forbes. The Hebrew Bible: Andersen-Forbes Phrase Marker Analysis (V 0.90, Aug 09). Bellingham, WA: Logos Bible Software, 2009.

Version 0.95 (Aug 2010) is in the current release, as the andersen-forbes.org website and the AFPMA heading indicate. Why the database label wrongly has "The Hebrew Bible: Andersen-Forbes Phrase Marker Analysis (0.90)" is known only to the Logos minions.
The folks at Logos are at work getting version 0.97 (Mar 2012) ready for release. Version 0.97 includes about 30,000 improvements in all, including greatly improved text type assignments, extended
periphrastics, resolution of additional polysemic cue phrases, and
cleaned up verb "semantics/valence" . Once version 0.97 is released, I plan to put a brief white paper explaining the improvements on our website.We are actively at work on version 1.0. It will finally realize the "full representation" described in section 9.2 of our recently released book on Biblical Hebrew grammar. It likely will take the better part of a year to prepare 1.0 for release.
Hope that clarifies matters...

Thanks, Dean. I just did an update on the resources but still have the same conflicting dates with the 'Phrase Marker Analysis'.
Maybe if Bob or a developer is lurking, they can speak some and clarify the issue….

The current shipping version is 0.95. Looks like we missed updating a piece of metadata or two, but the files (text, graphs, syntax database) are in sync.

Check out the Eisenbrauns title Biblical Hebrew Grammar Visualized (https://www.eisenbrauns.com/ECOM/_3I71FCYV1.HTM).
We also had a disk of videos on syntax searching made in the days of LDLS 3 that I believe Dr. Heiser is reshooting for Logos 4. So that's something to watch for.

There are two issues here:
1. For an explanation of our grammar, see our recently published book, Biblical Hebrew Grammar Visualized. But, as we note in its preface, "this book is not a user manual for the Andersen-Forbes data as realized by the Logos software" (p. xii).
2. For "a detailed explanation of how to use [our] syntax", you will need to consult the teaching materials produced by Logos. The pair of tutorial white papers on our web site (andersen-forbes.org) assumes Logos 3, alas. I have not [yet?] sacrificed time from other projects to update them for Logos 4.

I got the cited syntax searching videos a few months back. They're quite good. And of course, they feature the best software ever written (Libronix!).
But an update for the 'blue one' would work too, since the videos are gone.

The update is ready to go, but there was a snag with the rebuilding of two of the reverse interlinears (one of which was the KJV), so I think we're waiting for this to be resolved to ship the update. I'm as anxious to get this out the door as anyone, but I don't have an estimate for you.

But now I wonder how reverse interlinears (a great invention!) are related to the Andersen-Forbes project (another great invention!).

Just to move beyond a three-word put-down ("a demonic invention"): a) personally, my "preferred Bible" is the BHS (SESB) and NAXXVII (also SESB), so clearly I'm not chained to a "crutch"; b) I often consult my favorite reverse interlinear for a quick look at how those translators dealt with a construction, and less often to see how they rendered a word (that leaves the door open for your pun on "rendered"; c) does either of us really want to close the door to folks beinning to wonder about what lies behind our translations just because some (many?) might commit all sorts of exegetical fallacies? Personally, I'm not for licensing jack knives or wooden matches because some users will be careless and there are some pyromaniacs among us. That last sentence is designed either to kid along with you about "demonic invention" or to encourage you to lighten up a bit.

I have no objection to use of a translation, but I would recommend taking a translation and linking it to the original language text then placing it UNDERNEATH the original language text. No matter what someone's intentions, you cannot avoid being influenced by a translation which is immediately underneath the original (unless you have extreem tunnel vision). It really does no good to use an original language text which has a translation immediately below. Unfortunately for me it matters little what text I read since I probably remember the English translation. Why increase the difficulty of making an independent assessment of the passage?

Does everyone remember when they introduced hebrew vowel markings (1400 years ago maybe, but it seems like yesterday). "How can anyone learn to read hebrew with those things. Why it's the work of the demons!"
Later on when 'words' were introduced (or was it before?), George was wound up like a tight watch spring. "Truly the adversary has done this!"
With the interlinears, can George survive just one more degredation in the 'language of creation'?

The RI's use the Andersen-Forbes morphology for the OT. so changes to the latter can affect the former.
