Run two user accounts on one computer

I have an odd question.

I want to know if it is possible to run two different user accounts on the same computer. I know that makes no sense so let me explain.

We have Logos on a three different computers in our home. Our desktop and each of our laptops. My wife prefers a different Bible than me, she has different reading plans than I do (and often overwrites mine by mistatke), we have different prayer lists, etc.

I was thinking of buying her a smaller base package (we currently share Platinum) that she could use for prayer lists, reading plans, etc. but I still want to be able to use the Platinum package for study on the shared computer.

We did try to turn off internet to avoid synching between the shared computers and our laptops but eventually you have to take an update and then it syncs and both of our individual stuff gets messed up.

So back to my question, would it be possible to run two profiles (hers and mine) on the same computer, or can you have only one installation per computer.

As a side note it would be nice if we could set up separate "cloud" ids so that we could synch independently; in a manner similar to what iTunes does with its cloud.

On the PC you can. I assume the same functionality works for Mac through equivalent actions....

ON the PC:

you can press CTRL as you click the icon to load L4, this will offer a log in dialog. Just log in with a different (yours or your wife's) ID.

Install L4 under a separate user account, with different log in information for your account and for hers. that should automate the whole thing.

On the Mac, surely this is possible - sorry i do not know the equivalent button, but I would assume "command" would be it.

Russel - I agree with TC. This should be possible. You will need to create (or use)a new user account in OSX. The files are stored under the user account, so thier should not be any glitches. The easiest thing to do would be to create the user account, then create a new logos account with her email. Grab a free Vyrso book with her account and then log into logos 4. If everything works ok, then you can purchase the package with her email credentials.

Be aware that each Logos account has its own directory structure including resources. This means that the resource files are not shared, and you will have a duplicate set of resource files for the second user.

Thanks to all. I am new to Mac. In fact my wife is on Mac and I am still on PC so that makes it more of a challenge. I will give these suggestions a go and report back on what I find. I appreciate everyone taking the time to talk me through this.

My iMac has two OS X user accounts: hers has a stable Logos 4 Mac release in the Applications folder. My beta Logos 4 Mac release is in my Documents folder (similar configuration as Windows).

As a side note it would be nice if we could set up separate "cloud" ids so that we could synch independently; in a manner similar to what iTunes does with its cloud.

Separate Logos 4 accounts sync independently to Logos cloud servers.

The license isn't for the software, which is free, but for the books. So buying 'a second license' means buying a second set of books. As odd as it sounds the publisher wants to be payed twice if you are to have separate copies. [;)]

The short answer is no. See below.

These are the specifics of what Bob mentioned.

However, ultimately, I think the basic guidelines are that... it's essentially supposed to be your own Logos account attached to your own resources. That is, there is only supposed to be one real user of the account and resources. If your wife and other household family members want to use your account, then this is okay as long as this is done in a causal sense and you're willing to deal with the difficulties that will arise from sharing the account. If you want to both have 100% percent full usage of the software and resources as if you are two separate and serious users, then you need a separate account and separate resources.

It is of my own opinion that... if you two are able to put up with the difficulties of sharing the account, then go for it. It will be a hassle in some ways, but it's a trade off. Either share as if you two are "one flesh," or don't share and buy two separate libraries of resources.

The technical answer is no. Logos 4 Mac does not have a way to specify different Logos 4 folders in one Mac OS X user account.

Sync independently using the same Logos account causes all stuff to eventually appear in all installations. Changing Library prioritization at the same time in two Logos 4 installations using the same account can have surprising results while syncing.

The result is that there is one Logos 4 folder but 2 user specific folders named with random letters. You can use these 2 Logos accounts interchangeably on the same PC and the same Windows user account by signing to Logos via CTRL key and logging in with the needed Logos ID. (Of course you have 2 sets of downloaded books on one computer in this case). I assume it should be the same in the MAC version.

Thanks for all the great information.

This is one area where Logos falls short in my opinion. In order to not have my setups and my wife's not interfere with each other we have to buy two sets of books. I have about $6k invested in Logos and don't feel I should have to buy them all over again so my wife and I can have a pleasurable study experience.

This is where paper books have the advantage. Both my wife and I can use the same book without having to buy a second a copy.

I know some will argue the speed of the program makes up for the inconvenience, but in my case that is not true. As much as I love Logos I think I will begin looking elsewhere. Apple is able to differentiate syncs by using a separate cloud id, I don't see why Logos can't do the same.

I am not sure what you mean by Apple's "separate cloud ID." If you choose to purchase software for yourself and your wife with a single Apple ID, there maybe unintended consequences. The same is true with Logos.

When you "purchase" a resource with Logos, you are entering into a license agreement for a single user. I don't know how you can be upset with "Bob's stand" when he graciously extends "one user" to include your wife.
