This may be a dumb question, but how do I get Highlights and Emphasis marks to show up in multiple Bibles and Parrallell resources?

It's rather a long-wished-for feature request, since AFAIK you can't. Workaround: You may attach a note to a reference (right click) instead of the selection, the note will show in all bibles.

That is a shame, not sure why it would behave any differently than a note file.  This is a MUST HAVE feature.  I don't want to remember what highlight I did in which Bible.  That seems silly.  And let's face it, a lot, if not most, of us do not use notes the same way we use highlights which means that isn't a good option.

Because it's awfully hard for a computer to understand that when you highlight "the Lord" in one Bible you want it to highlight "Yahweh" in another one, "ὁ κύριος" in a third and "יְהוָ֣ה" in a fourth, and that "In the beginning God created" is the same as "When God began to create". I don't know the first thing about coding, but I imagine that trying to get the computer to understand which word equals what must be a nightmare. It's not like you can just tell it to highlight words two and five in 7:2.

It could probably be done for the interlinear Bibles, but don't expect it any time soon.

Have you learnt about visual filters? They can do a little bit of what you want.

David - As fgh demonstrated, highlights across translations is much more tricky than note indicators. Highlights, by definition within Logos, are "by selection" whereas note indicators can also be "by reference." If a highlight were to be "by reference," the entire verse would be highlighted in every translation. That sounds good to some people, but it would also mean that entire sections of commentaries (pages and pages) would also be completely highlighted! When a note indicator is "by reference," the note indicator gets placed at the very beggining of the passage, which is good, intended, no big deal. A highlight would be undesirable!

Other users have clamored for highlighting "by selection" to move across translations. This, in my opinion, would have a fairly limited benefit. First, "by selection" currently means the surface text is highlighted (i.e. the english words). If the underlying original languages could be marked (this would only work with translations with reverse interlinears), there could be some benefit but I still think there would be problems. For example, the word order in one translation might be radically different than another. Personally I think it would be very distracting to have skipped words in the highlighting section.

EDIT: I see you already replied to fgh. I was putting the kids to be while composing my post. [:)]

My favorite Logos 4 feature is visual filter highlighting using Logos Greek Morphology (so can visually see range of verbal expression in a passage); wiki Extended Tips for Visual Filters has => Examples of visual filters that includes a screen shot with five Logos Greek Morphology visual filters and corresponding highlighting palette, which are usable in Greek and English resources with appropriate tagging (e.g. English Reverse Interlinear and Greek resources with morphological tagging).

The Lexham High Definition New Testament and Lexham Discourse Greek New Testament have emphasis highlighting.

I looked at the wiki page you posted, that apparantely is over my head.  I didn't understand exactly what they were doing.  Granted, I also don't use morphology because I don't understand it either....someday.... :(

I see NB.Mick's response about attaching notes to a reference. Can this be done via an iOS device as well?

    Yes, it can.

When in the note creation dialog pane, at the top you will see a couple of buttons - one showing "Selection", the other showing the Bible reference of the currently selected text. Press on the reference and the note will be attached to it.

"ὁ κύριος" is the lexicon (dictionary form) of a word, whose range of translation includes "the Lord" in the New Testament and "יְהוָ֣ה"in the Septuagint.

Morphological tagging includes original language lemma (word) and usage.  Greek spelling varies with grammatical usage.

Thankful for Logos enabling sharing of documents, including highlighting palettes and visual filters.

  • Apologies [:$] for belated reply.  Noticed Forum Home Page has Your Discussions with many pages; found some had replies that personally had not read since began working full time. With 500K forum posting celebration, was wondering what threads were missing a follow-up reply.

In this thread, wondered if someday for learning about morphology had come along ?  Personally still learning a lot and have a lot more to learn.

    Keep Smiling [:)]
