Root Search and Greek Texts

Phil's post on the new features of L5 made me realize that I hadn't tried the new root search. Kinda bad since the UserVoice entry for it was posted by me Tongue Tied .

For a while I couldn't get it to work, then I realized that the root tagging was only in my Reverse Interlinears, not the two places I would want to look for it first, the NA27 and SBLGNT.

Will these resources be rebuilt with the root information by launch? I think this is a glaring oversight, especially since many of the scholarly users won't interact with the RIs at first. For example, when I was trying to search roots I clicked on the root syntax example in morph search and it failed because I wasn't searching the right Bible.

SBLGNT and LGNTISBL (the interlinear form of SBLGNT) have roots integrated (viewable on right-click in both, not as an interlinear line as that would be confusing with Lemma as well); my guess is the resources will be released whenever the application is publicly released.

Roots are also in Cascadia SBLGNT and the Cascadia NA27 syntax databases.

Other NTs (e.g. NA27) are possible; but probably not on release day.

We will have a new Hebrew Bible, the Lexham Hebrew Bible, and it will have root information. I believe the Lexham Hebrew Interlinear (which has been significantly updated) also has root information; if not it will happen at some point after release. Since I can hear someone asking already, the significant updates to LHI include: Implementation of the Logos Hebrew Morphology (lemmas, roots, morph), as well in the past 3 years or so, Christo van der Merwe has significantly updated the Hebrew Interlinear glosses/lexvals after a lengthy review process.

We do not have roots on any LXX text at present. That may or may not happen in the future.

Here are some other things worth mentioning:

Logos 5 will install on top of and replace Logos 4. You can't run them side by side.
Unlike the move from Logos/Libronix 3 to Logos 4, there will be no loss of features (although we will be deprecating Handouts for those who have never used it).
PC and Mac will be at full feature parity from day one. [Update: This applies only to new Logos 5 features. Existing 4.6x features may have parity differences (http://wiki.logos.com/Mac_and_PC_User_Interface_Differences#Feature_Parity) that are still being addressed.]
The Mac version is using the new version of Mono, and the result is a noticeable speed improvement.
This goes without saying, but some customers always ask: you get to keep all your old books. We're even updating all old LLS files to bring them into conforming with our new standards and features.
Logos 5 requires .NET 4.5 and won't run on Windows XP (or on Mac OSX 10.5). New Logos 5 features won't work on Logos 4, but most books will.

Guess what downloaded right after I posted this:updated versions of the SBLGNT with the Root info. [:)]

For what it's worth the NA27 is my go-to for searching, it would be nice to have the root info there.

FWIW, I'm actually working on getting roots into LLS:LOGOSNA27 and LLS:LOGOSUBS4 right now. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to slip 'em into Scrivener too. (That is, LLS:SCRMORPH — and not the old, deprecated texts that originated with Maurice Robinson)

I'm unable to duplicate what you're experiencing (on Windows 7, Logos 5.00.0.1758, ESV.logos4 2012-10-12T16:52:28Z and ESVNT.lbsrvi 2012-10-11T20:40:31Z) so I've filed a bug report on it.

Here is my result, seemed to work. I am on Logos Bible Software 5.0 Beta 4 (5.00.0.1721, resource is :

There is a long-standing bug though, I had done a prior search of Gospels somewhere else, so when I right-clicked and did Search this resource it came up as Gospels instead of All Passages.

I believe this was caused by a Mac bug in one of the early betas.

You should be able to fix it by running "rebuild index" (to rebuild both your Bible and Library indexes).

Cool. Had stopped paging through at about 400 the other day. Does the fact that the NA 28 it isn't in Gold mean that it has the apparatus as well? Or will that be an additional purchase later?

[:(] I expected that answer. Of course this is entirely consistent with what the German Bible Society has done in the past. Any idea on the availability of a digital version of the apparatus? I would expect a period of time where there is print only sales.

This has been and remains an exercise in total frustration.

1. Indexer quit about half-way through the library index (reported in another thread)

2. Logs indicated that the indexer had completed its task, but the Logos icon remained in the menu bar two hours later showing 89%, then 91%

3. Downloaded 3 updated resources, and the indexer began again @ resource 1 of 6,029.

4. In all this, the Root search feature still does not work.

UPDATE:

This happened twice more. Downloaded a few updated resources, and L5 begins a new complete library reindex. In all this, Root Search is still AWOL.

At this point, I would recommend that Mac users avoid the upgrade (speaking in total frustration).
