Ben have you called to order it? Once paid for they can activate your account. Give them a call. Tell Dave Kaplan I said hi.
I just got off the phone with Dave Kaplan. He said that at this point the sales staff doesn't have any specifics on engine-only upgrade pricing. They can only do the upgrade with the Diamond or Portfolio packages (at least for me - I have Platinum plus 94 other orders worth of resources). I doubt I'll upgrade my package - Diamond would have to be ridiculously compelling to spend the 4 figures. I just want the new software.

They are working on the site (updating things) so it will be available.
I just want the new software.
Donnie, the new software will not be available until after the initial launch. The same applies to the minimum cross grade.

Same for me here. I expect there is a whole bunch of customers who havealready bought all they need (or can pay for). They don’t need extra resources (certainly not aton of new collections). These people are often very active users of Logos. Even though they don't buy a shelve full of resources anymore, theywould just LOVE to start using the new Logos engine. I would hope that this group ofcustomers doesn’t have to wait for months before they can start using theprogram that contains some cool new features which seem to be designed forpeople like them.

Be aware, but to the best of my knowledge, the new engine will not work on XP. It uses .Net 4.5, which microsoft has not made available for XP.
André, it is not just a new engine. It is lots of new data and databases. You will want it, although you would not want or need any new book, I am almost sure of it [:)]

I don't think they are any more:

Not sabotaged, just a friendly agreement between departments [:)]

To take advantage of the new data bases, he will need the minimum crossgrade.
Just a mathematical way of still basing pay on performance while paying sales less
Original packages will continue to work with the new engine, afaict. I got the leaked alpha and have been using it with my Platinum package all the way up through the just release SR-2. You don't get access to some of the new features, like timeline & bible sense, but I believe everything else worked as expected.
I'm in the boat where no packages are owned, just interested in the new software.
You will want it
Hi Bohuslav,
Yeah, I know! What I have seen so far looks awesome. I am looking for good reasons to upgrade earlier, but it feels a bit odd to buy a bunch of resources in order to get the program. I am very much willing to pay for the program, but I promised myself that I won't buy more resources (especially if I don't need them). Hopefully we get the chance very soon to get the minimal cross grade.
Here's the good news: apparently the upgrade tools will take that into account. ;-)

Try to experiment with the upgrade to get all the new databases and not any books you don't need. The offer should be much more flexible. Let's wait to see.
If I am remembering correctly three years ago it took 2-3 weeks before they offered the minimal cross grade. It was part of their plan to offer in stages and not have the servers overloaded at one time. By reports they have sold to nearly a million customers and so it potentially a lot of people to access servers and download the update. This initial kick is likely to last a month. It may go through Thanksgiving, but whatever special prices they are offering will likely be over well before Christmas. Employees will work extra hours for the next few weeks, but nobody wants to work those hours through Christmas.
I will look at the upgrade when it comes up, but not sure that I want to spend into 4 figures. There has been major changes in our life this year and it all took money.

Should I infer from this that the new databases are something you have to pay for, i.e. required to support a feature not in the base engine?
I would assume so. Logos hasn't announced a "cross grade" <yet>.

If we look back to Logos 4 that was the minimal crossgrade reason to exist. The engine was free but all the new databases, info-graphics, maps, Bible Things Bible People etc., were made available by the minimal crossgrade or a base package purchase.
Without much to go on, it sounds like the jump from Platinum to Diamond is about half of what it was to go from Platinum to Portfolio. This seems like what one would expect. I don't remember the release date of L4, but it seems that I remember the reduced price for upgrades lasted until January 31.
Regarding the "minimal crossgrade" and the possibility that pricing for it won't be announced for a couple of weeks:
a) What is a customer who already has Portfolio supposed to do? Simply wait? That's just ridiculous.
b) The Logos servers will be a lot more lightly hit by someone doing a minimal crossgrade than someone upgrading from almost anything to Diamond or Portfolio. If they are asserting that as a reason for this approach, it's either disingenuous or poorly thought out.
If sales tells me I have to wait 2+ weeks to get L5, Bob will be getting a call.
If they are asserting that as a reason for this approach,
Note: I have been wrong more than once before.

Hi Donnie,
It is my understanding (and someone will correct me if this is wrong) that the Portfolio package has been revised and that there is, therefore, an opportunity to 'cross-grade' in order to pick up the additional resources. I appreciate that this may still not meet your expectations/needs, but thought I would mention it.
[:D]
[Edit: I see that TC beat me to it!]
Donnie,
The portfolio package has been upgraded too. They've added/replaced some of the resources. For example, the Preaching the Word commentaries & Spurgeon collection are now a part of the package, as well as quite a few other resources. I believe T&T Clark is in the mix too.
The upgrade price from L4 Portfolio to L5 Portfolio is still quite hefty though.
Also, it's worth noting that I was given the option to upgrade to L5 Diamond from L4 Portfolio, which is a bit cheaper.
a) What is a customer who already has Portfolio supposed to do? Simply wait? That's just ridiculous.Call sales. However you'll find that the packages have been entirely re-done, and you might be interested in upgrading, sidegrading or even (gasp) downgrading {while keeping everything you currently own of course.} (I'm not really sure a downgrade is possible).
I understand that we can--because the base packages have been totally revamped. There will be new designations for the packages themselves (some will keep their names) and new/varied resource offerings. I'm pretty excited to see the new revamping with the sheep quit getting shorn and we can browse to our hearts content--and wallet's depletion.
Call sales.
That was the first thing I did once I saw the announcement in the forums. Unfortunately, the sales staff seems to be almost as much in the dark as we are (probably more in the dark than folks who were on the beta .
For me, the upgrade to L5 Diamond is $1,100 and to Portfolio is $2,100. I overspend quite a bit on resources, but those packages would need to include AYB or NICNT/OT for me to be willing to spend that much money right now. I've placed ~90 orders for Logos resources in 2 years. I don't see why I should be punished because Logos hasn't done the legwork prior to launch to figure out crossgrade pricing.
Any yes, I realize that I'm both speculating and venting.

We still love you.
I feel the love from fellow Logos forum members almost all the time. And I now know enough to avoid using the "i" word in threads in which George S. is active.

Logos has reworked the base packages and supplementary bundles in a way that should please most of us - and not force us to but stuff we don't want. Logos 5 however does have a number of new features that run off databases that Logos has hand-coded so there is a legitimate cost to obtain the new features. I haven't seen the minimum prices for upgrading but Logos did say that the pricing structure takes into account everything you have a license for - not just your base package.

That brings up today's biggest question: Where in the world is KS4J? (I'm guessing ODed on L5)

I'll with hold judgment till I see what's in the Portfolio upgrade- 2k is a lot to have to pay.

Does anyone know about an upgrade from Logos 4 Gold to Logos 5 Gold?
There will be one. Once the Logos site is up customized upgrade pricing and the new contents should be available to you.
Logos is doing away with some collections and renaming others. Scholars 4 will become Bronze 5, but Silver, Gold, and Platinum will remain with internal content changes. Look for another collection above Platinum. All I can say now.
From what I've been able to see so far in the 1183 books that have been downloaded in my upgrade, there is a LOT that I'm liking. There are quite a few series & titles that were on my wishlist or were soon to make it to my wishlist. So, getting these at the price of the upgrade (albeit still steep) is looking worthwhile for my needs.
Tom,
I'm disappointed in the $600+ price that was offered to me to climb back to the same level (Platinum) that I already had. Our life situation (small church, small budget, wife's stage 4 lung cancer) make that unaffordable--especially on top of the 11/11 dumptruck load of CP classic commentaries that I still intend to honor.
I'm also pretty unhappy that for the 1st time since 1.6 to V2 I wasn't invited to help beta test.
I'm happy for Logos.
But for me?
[:'(]
Bill,
I hear you. I'm still praying for your wife as well.
For anyone else: Keep in mind that all of the packages have been retooled greatly. That means that lots of books moved in and out of collections.
Just look at the new Platinum resources and see if they are worth the coin. From the information I've received thus far, it looks like I already have most of the package resources I want. Combine that with my lack of money and I'll likely be holding out for the minimal crossgrade.
especially on top of the 11/11 dumptruck load of CP classic commentaries that I still intend to honor
We haven't seen a new comparison chart yet. Is it confirmed that the Classic Commentary collections aren't already in the new base packages?
Unless something has changed, they are not.

Did they give you a price for Gold? Based on what Logos told the beta testers, that's the level that has all the new features. If you get Gold, you'll still gain all the new features and also these new resources that weren't in L4 Platinum:
Plus you get to keep all the L4 Platinum resources. (IMO, L4 platinum was much better than L5 Platinum...you can check for yourself as soon as the website gets up)
The only resources that L5 Platinum has that L5 Gold + L4 Platinum together don't have are these 5 sets:
As an upgrade, I would be happy with just making sure that the new features are enabled, and Gold does that.
Logos redid the packages in a major way, and they've shifted the naming convention so that Gold is now the package that gives compete feature set, similar to what plain Scholar's was in L4. Many of the commentary sets that were in the old packages are no longer in the new ones, so you can't rely on the package upgrade to fill in the missing volumes anymore.
Does anyone know anything about upgrades to the Catholic packages?
fgh, I do know that there is a catholic collection, but have yet to hear about an upgraded catholic package. That may be a call to sales for you. I have not checked Verbum.
What does L5 have that would make me want to spend my money? Timeline? Wouldn't do it for me. (I suppose that could be very valuable for a lay person, though.) But timelines involve some interpretation of the historical evidence. I would as soon do that myself.
There must be something in these new features. Can't wait to find out, but it will have to be something good and helpful for me to spend money.
Of course, if you let me sync and read my Personal Books on my iPad, and I am in. If it will pronounce Hebrew, I'm in.
If it is just the latest, geatest, prettiest interface - with lots of pretty charts. No thanks. I am not unhappy with what I've got.
It would also take quite a deal to persuade me to make a major book purchase now.
I just spoke with Santiago, and he indicated that the only resources that L5 will download on an automatic update are the new resources, not the ones currently on my computer. Is this correct?
