Many of the resources that I had given a rating of 0 now have community ratings (as high as 4 stars), pushing them up the list when I sort my library by ratings.
Is there a way that I can turn off this feature?

My first guess after playing with this is: do your own rating, it will supercede the Community Rating (strange there aren't two fields for that). Community ratings are blue stars, your own ratings will be gold-colored stars
Thanks. I'd already gone through my library and rated all of my resources. However, there is no way no rate something as 0 stars. It I the ones that I left with no stars that now have the blue stars.
This was discussed during beta testing, and I thought Bradley had given us a way to attach a zero rating, but I cannot remember/find the method. Perhaps someone with a better memory will respond.
Otherwise, either edit the name of this thread to "BUG: Cannot apply zero rating" or start a new thread with this name. That will ensure attention from development.
It was not well received in beta testing but we may have to wait for 5.0a before it is changed (I requested a return to the L4 format but My rating 0 could sort the column whilst it showed community ratings).
Thank you both for your comments.
I can't really see why people would want to use other people's ratings; to me they are a personal way of managing my library—each rating has a specific meaning, including a zero rating. However, this comes from a man who is proud to have zero friends on Facebook, so others may disagree.
There are a number of potential solutions: a setting to switch community ratings off, the ability to set a personal zero rating, the ability to to clear the community rating, a column to sort the library just by my personal ratings (provided that my iOS library could also be sorted that way).
I also still have an issue with ratings not being synced with the iOS library. I have posted about this prevously but have heard nothing from Logos as to whether it is to be addressed. Searching by rating works, but sorting the library by rating uses the rating that was present when I installed the iOS app and not any subsequent changes.
I think where we left it in beta was they were going to consider two rating columns, our own and Community.
However, you can clear the rating. In your Library, right click on the stars for a given resource, and you should see "clear rating".
Unfortunately, that option is not there (and it is greyed out in the browsing panel) if the user rating is blank (zero) and a blue community rating is shown.
Let's see what happens next week. I tipped off the Logos guys to this thread since it applies to our old conversation, we'll see what they come up with . Beta of 5.0a starts next week, so it should be out relatively quickly.
Thanks Dominick.

I can't really see why people would want to use other people's ratings
I agree [Y]
I can't really see why people would want to use other people's ratings;
This could be helpful to some users who are unsure about the quality of a resource they own. If lots of people rate a resource highly, maybe they should look at it. If they rate it low, maybe they shouldn't rely on it. I often check the ratings people on Amazon give a product before buying it. This is somewhat similar.
I don't really want this info, but I can see how some might.
But I don't use ratings at all. I prioritize, I tag, and I create collections. Never saw a reason to rate something when I never look at the ratings and don't use them. I always leave the ratings column off in my library. But then, like everyone else, I'm unique.
I've noticed this, as well --there used to be a way to clear the ratings on a long list of items in the right side pane when you select them all. This is also gone.
I use the ratings for more than ratings --and I actually don't care what other people think is a valuable resource or not (I read reviews, not ratings, and look at samples when deciding what new things to buy). I understand Logos is trying to make their software more of a community than a product over the long haul, but please kill the "feature."

Lutherans will rate things different than Baptist, and Baptist will rate things different than Roman Catholic. People who have a Mdiv and going to seminary will rate things different than someone who volunteers to teach Sunday School.
If there was a way to limit the community ratings to people who I trust, then it would be helpful.
I can still do this in Library, so I'm not sure what is happening to you.
There is no "clear ratings," option here.
This "clear ratings," option is greyed out, so it's not an available option.
The "clear ratings" option is also greyed out, so it's not an option. There is also no option to ignore the community ratings when downloading new or updates resources.
This is the same as it appears to me.
It looks to me like the "Clear User Ratings" option is only available if you have rated a resource, i.e., given it a rating above "0."
So you can remove your own ratings, which means the resource defaults to the community rating, but you cannot block or remove the community rating. IMHO, this is broken, and needs to be fixed.

Actually the only option I see there is to either clear the user ratings (in the main Library window). And to clear one's own rating in the resource information pane of the Library.
What you can't do is clear user ratings from the Library resource information pane, nor clear one's own rating from the main Library window.
Seems inconsistent. I think someone forgot to integrate some functionality along the line.
i.e. for a single resource you can only clear it in the Library context menu; not in any resource information pane. It is inconsistent.
It needs to be fixed, but an option to Clear community ratings doesn't make sense. When you Clear a user rating (1 to 5) it becomes unrated or rating:0, the same value as resources you have not yet rated, but the resource currently displays the community rating. I prefer the way it is done in L4.
When you Clear a user rating (1 to 5) it becomes unrated or rating:0, the same value as resources you have not yet rated....
That's essentially what I want --if I've cleared the rating, I want it to have no rating at all, rather than display the community rating. I don't want the community ratings at all, essentially.
This could be helpful to some users who are unsure about the quality of a resource they own.
It could be helpful if all people rated according to quality, you mean. As it is, one star could mean:
I'm guessing I'm not the only one to have the CAL targums rated with one star (at least I think I have). That doesn't exactly mean they're low quality. It just means I can't read them and don't want them to show up in normal searches.
It works on Amazon because everyone uses the same system (except for the few who rate the distribution or the seller instead). It doesn't work when there are dozens of systems in place at the same time.

I don't know how I rated them - mine are Hidden[:)]

Had an unrated (by me) resource with 4 community stars. Gave it 2 stars and then cleared user rating. Now, it once again had a 4 star community rating. This is a bummer, who would want some unknown person/group rating their resources?

Bob![:D]
(That's why we have it, isn't it?)
who would want some unknown person/group rating their resources? I do not know. I can saw that I do not want it.
What I would like is to have possibility to switch the community ratings off or on. It might be I would be interested some times to see how others rate their books and so I can switch it on. Otherwise I can keep it switched off.
The most important thing for me however is not to use community rating when I filter my books by rating. In this case it always should be just my rating.
Many of the resources that I had given a rating of 0
Unfortunately, because community ratings didn't exist in Logos 4, there was a misconception that you could rate something with "0 stars". In actuality, ratings were only from 1–5, and "Clear rating" meant "delete my rating", not "rate it 0". (The rating:0 search in Library was a hack that we put it to let you find unrated resources. In retrospect, it would have been better to make the search "rating:none" and disable the use of "rating:0".)

The "Clear ratings" option is unavailable, because these resources only have a community rating; your rating has either never been set, or has already been cleared. You can't "clear" a community rating.
Thanks for all the great feedback!
We've heard your desires and will be adding an option to control this in a future release.
Thank you, once again.

I dont know if there are any Adobe Lightroom users here, but this is one area that app excels (among many). They have the normal 1-5 (or no) stars, but you can also flag photos with different colored flags. They also give you the option to name the flags. So, you can name the red flag "keeper" or whatever you want.
This would be ideal for Logos. You can already mimic some of the ability with tags, but the ease of use of flags is way ahead of tagging. Also, it would reduce the dilution of community ratings by making them more dedicated to being a quality rating, though there would still be some issues as already stated (Mormon vs Catholic, etc).
For those who havent used Lightroom, the ease of use is just one keystroke: when in library view, hit [1] to mark the selected titles as 1 star, 2 for 2 stars, etc, then 6-9 are for custom flags, and 0 is to clear star flag. Also, instead of yet another column to display custom flags, the background color of the title is changed to match the flag color.
Anyway, that's one idea to make library management more powerful.
Good thought Joshua! [:)]
Unfortunately, because community ratings didn't exist in Logos 4, there was a misconception that you could rate something with "0 stars".
The use of rating:0 was well understood in Logos 4 until Logos 5 came along and mixed community ratings with user ratings. Now we have a programmatical perspective about the use of Zero vs. Null, None clouding things along with a misconception about the importance of community ratings.
I'm glad that you are not proposing to disable the use of rating:0 and don't mind that it has been removed from resource menus, but please correct the misuse of community ratings in Library, especially as it affects the way that OUR ratings are sorted.
EDIT: I obviously did not see your next post before composing this response. Thank you for listening!

My vote (admittedly without having seen the feature) goes to separate columns. Then you can see either or both, according to choice.
Hmm. If you're using Verbum settings, will you see only the ratings of other Verbum users? That would make the community ratings at least a little bit more useful.[:)]
Agreed. I really like the idea of community ratings and I think they could be useful, but the data needs to be displayed in its own column.
Is there a way that I can turn off this feature? We've heard your desires and will be adding an option to control this in a future release.
Separate columns please. I want to sort by *my* ratings (exactly as Jonathan explained).
