Why I'm not upgrading..... yet or maybe never...

Why I may never upgrade....

  • I'm in a small church and although I love some of the commentary sets that have come out, after 25+ of preaching the three comprehensive sets, TDNT, and Driver/Briggs is usually enough to get me by.
  • I'm almost 60 and can't see the payoff for investing almost a grand more into a program I've already paid for.
  • The program may be slow but as long as L4 runs on Windows 8 I think I'll be okay.

Why I might upgrade someday...

  • Before I retire I will try to seek out a deserving young pastor who needs a leg up in the studying department and give him my Logos library [I still have a crud load of paper books and other electronic resources]
  • I may leave them with the church so whoever comes as pastor has a ready reference library. In that case, I'd like them to benefit from the latest version.

All of this is, of course, IMHO

Alan, it's refreshing to see a well thought out decision amid the chaos of the last two days.Smile

Definitely, glad to see your comment Alan as it looks like emotions have been running high over the last few days. Glad I missed it, as I was busy on other projects.

Like you I have not decided whether to upgrade or not. I have so many resources now from the L4 Platinum and additional purchases, I can't see spending the additional amount on more books then I will probably use. A cross-grade might be plausible, but there are only a couple of books on the lists that I am interested in and they are less than $50. So I'll sit and wait.

In Christ,

Ken

Don't forget that the Logos 5 engine will be made available on its own for free eventually. Bob promised as much in his recent post (now stickied), so you can at least get the new interface/speed/layout of Logos 5, just without the new search capabilities and databases.

I may be going that route myself unless the minimal crossgrade is cheap enough (sub-$50, and even then it's a stretch).

Hi Alan,

Just to echo what MJ has already said, thank you for you thoughtful post.

By way of an encouragement, L4 is still supported and it is my understanding that there are further updates planned. Hopefully, therefore, you may see some improvements in the performance in the future. Moreover, if you are experiencing particular problems or require assistance, please feel free to post in the forums (ideally in a new thread). There are many helpful people here who will be delighted to share tips and offer assistance.

God bless you in your decision.

At the same time Bob also promised a minimum upgrade that would give you the new capabilities of L5 without the resources offered in the new base packages.

Hey, no one NEEDS to upgrade.  If you've got Logos 4 and are happy with it, just wait for the free cross-grade.  You will not lose a thing in your present library.

Just to clarify. The L5 software engine will be free. The cross grade will contain all the new data sets and will not be free. Just one of those data seta has taken 3 full time graduate level programmers 10 months to prepare.

Jack, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but in just the past few weeks you have aged tremendously.  Wink  I assume the other avatar was a grandchild.
