It would be interesting to see an update as to the whole mac parity issue with L5.

How about auto hyperlinks of bible refs in notes...is that working in L5?

Auto hyperlinks of bible refs in notes working for me now in Mac. Notes in Mac has improved significantly though I haven't used it sufficiently over last couple of days to know whether now complete parity in notes.

is there something I need to do to make them work? Give me an example of steps you took that worked so I can test it. On my I added a note using the add note button and then typed John 3:16 and closed notes and reopened and it was not hyperlinked.

Kevin – It is my understanding that auto hyperlink is still a parity issue… I can't get it to work either. Andrew, if you are able to make it work, can you give steps and a screen shot or two? To answer the larger question, The NEW features introduce parity… many of the old parity issues were resolved in the 4.6a release, but there are still some remaining issues, especially with notes. http://wiki.logos.com/Logos_5.0

Currently not aware of Logos 5 new feature parity issues.

Wiki has => http://wiki.logos.com/Mac_and_PC_User_Interface_Differences#Feature_Parity with "Not yet Fixed", "Won't Fix", and "Future Plans".  Thankful for Logos development reformatting Feature Parity list.

If note is created in Logos 5 on Windows, automatic hyperlinking happens.  When note syncs to Mac, the link is usable.

Logos development has a Future Plan:

  • PC Notes can automatically hyperlink scripture in notes while hyperlink can be manually added on Mac
Logos: We presently use operating system controls for rich text editing on each platform. The functionality is not the same on each, and we are unable to hook in at a low level to enable all the desired features on the Mac platform. Our long term plan is to replace the OS provided rich text editor with our own component, but until then we are unlikely to be able to advance the text editing features beyond their current state.

Screen shot attached showing verse hyperlink on Mac. I do need to point out that these notes were originally created when I was running Windows version (via Parallels) so that may be the reason.

That seems to be the difference. I wish Logos could fix this. Until they do here's a great work around for Mac users.

1. Type the verse reference and then highlight it.

2. Use COMMAND+C to copy the reference

3. Use COMMAND+K to open the hyperlink box in the notes toolbar.

4. Use COMMAND+V to past it and hit enter. Creates a quick hyperlink without taking my hands off the keyboard.

Not yet, but it's high on our list of bugs to fix in Logos 5.

To recap other threads on this topic (e.g., in the Logos 4 Mac forums), we will be replacing the platform-specific notes editors on Windows and Mac with our own custom editor. Not only should this improve performance, it'll bring the same editing experience to both platforms. Unfortunately, writing our own editor (instead of just using the one built into the OS) is a time-consuming process, and we also want to take the time to ensure that it's 100% compatible with the millions of notes customers have already taken in the software using the old editors. So, it's coming, but I can't give a date.

That would be appreciated!Big Smile

And I know one or two who would appreciate finally being able to bring over their L3 notes as well.Big Smile

Can I ask a quick question about L5 on Mac? Does it feel any snappier than 4?  I always get the sense that Logos 4 doesn't feel like a "real" Mac application for some reason. It just seemed more sluggish than its Windows counterpart to me, even when I upgraded my computer to a Mac from an older PC with an SSD, etc.

The "feel" of Logos 5 would be a big push for me to upgrade, but I don't really want to spend a couple hundred dollars if its still going to be kludgy feeling.  L4 works just fine, but if upgrading would net a serious performance gain, that would be great!

L 5 is a vast improvement for me. I am on a 2008 MBP running Lion. However, I never experienced the problems some other Mac users experienced.  The biggest improvement is in the rendering of the text after a search, syntax searching, and the running of the sections in the guides. It is easily as fast as the PC  version I have running on Windows 7.

Yes.

Do I understand that you DO or DONT have an SSD HD?

You could always wait for the free engine… or you could purchase an upgrade, test it out. If you are not happy, you can "return" the base package and just redownload the L5 engine when it is made publicly available.

Alabama,

How much work do you think it would be to return to L4 if you return the L5 package before the free engine is available? I don't know if I would recommend that.

Good point John. I think the users will have to make that decision for themselves. It isn't really a lot of "work," but it might tie up your computer for a while if a reinstall is required (I am not sure if it would be).

My point isn't to talk anyone into a purchase they can't afford or want… But if you are seriously considering a purchase, it is nice to know you can return it if you aren't satisfied. Wink

Once Logos 5 is installed, the database files used by Logos are updated.  To switch from Logos 5 back to Logos 4 is similar to switching from Beta to Stable: completely uninstall and reinstall.

If just want engine upgrade, then waiting for Logos to publish free download link seems appropriate.

Thankful for personalized upgrade calculator, which includes credit for previous purchases.  Thankful for Logos Sales offering to combine pre-publications that have ship dates with upgrade purchase for payment plan modification.

In addition to what others have said, the notes feature has noticeably improved. With L5 SR-3 I could not create a lag between typing and display even when hitting the keyboard with both hands rather than typing meaningful sentences.

Overall operating speed is vastly improved.
