Y2K2:

BTW, I have pretty much decided NOT to upgrade my operating system to Win8 Pro.

Good decision. There is no need for it on any computer that does not have a touchscreen. Consumers who buy off the shelf computers will be stuck with what is essentially a touchscreen interface on a computer with no touchscreen.

Businesses will probably avoid Win8 like they did Vista.

I think to download and install Mozilla Fox as a 2nd browser to use for surfing the internet. It receives regular security updates so would be safer than using IE9 since MS would probably not be releasing security updates for it after the release of IE10.

Does anyone know for sure what MS plans to do regarding security updates for IE9 after its release of IE10?

IE9 will still be supported as is IE8.

Y2K2:

I don’t understand your saying that IE9 is the engine for Libronix.

That was a little sloppy. Internet Explorer (IE) is the engine for Libronix. The last version of Libronix (3.0g) is compatible with IE8 but IE9 required a simple registry fix (the IE9 Fix).  Libronix is no longer supported so it will remain incompatible with IE10.

Thanks Dave, especially for the info about IE9 still being supported by MS. I will stick with IE9.

Hi everyone.

I have just updated to Win8 and successfully reinstalled Libronix 3. When asked to create an account in account manager, I selected "Existing User" and then "Enter Codes".... after putting in my user ID and confirmation code (I know I have the correct ones, but even tried slightly different variations), absolutely NOTHING happens when "NEXT" is clicked.

Am I right in assuming this is because of Libronix needing part of the older IE engine for this process to be completed? Or is there something I'm missing?

Thanks!

Yes, you can install it, but Libronix is incompatible with Windows 8/ IE10. If you wish to continue and provide feedback then

  • install the IE9-fix --> http://community.logos.com/forums/t/30926.aspx
  • if it doesn't repair the functionality you know Libronix is incompatible (a similar problem exists with other dialog boxes)
  • I was able to specify a backup licence file to get through this...

Wise decision. It's not compatible with Libronix (L3). Stay with Windows 7 for as long as you can.

Hi Dave, you seem to be the guy with the answers regarding L3.

I was just reading up on IE10 compatibility mode.

I do not have a Win8 machine to experiment with right now. Have you looked at this yet?

These instructions are supposed to work for websites:

1.) Right click on the top bar within IE10 and check, "Menu bar"
2.) Click on "tools" --> compatibility view settings
3.) Check, "display all websites in compatibility mode"

I have no idea if that would affect a program like L3. But I suspect that if the compatibility mode is there (it is), and it fixes the problem (who knows?), Then it would be worth finding out how to launch L3 with IE10 in this mode.

No plans here to move to Win8, but knowing if it is possible would be nice.

Chris, If you would not mind being a Guinea Pig, could you add the following registry key and see what happens?

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MAIN\FeatureControl\FEATURE_BROWSER_EMULATION]
"LDLS.exe"=dword:00001f40

If it then works, let us know Big Smile

Hey again!

Neither the IE9 fix, or the quoted regedit fixed the issue =(... I tried the IE9 fix, restarted and nothing changed. Then tried the above regedit, restarted and nothing changed,

Are there any other options?

If not, what are my options for updating from Libronix 3?

1. If you never owned a Logos 4 Base Package then you must get a Crossgrade to Logos 4 ($114.95) -->https://www.logos.com/product/28576/logos-4-minimal-crossgrade

This gives you enough resources and features to enjoy Logos 4 together with your existing resources  (some older Logos 2 resources might not be compatible with L4) Also note that PBB books are not compatible with L4, but you can build your own Personal Books in L4.

You will see an Upgrade button but you can only purchase Base Packages for Logos 5, now. So if you want to take that step at minimal cost then get the Logos 5 Minimal Crossgrade  --> https://www.logos.com/product/28376/logos-5-minimal-crossgrade

This will give you all the new features of Logos 5 and is much cheaper than upgrading to the Gold package which also has all the features. If you already have any of the resources then the cost will be lower than $159.95.

It's important to note that you must get the L4 Crossgrade in order to get the L5 Crossgrade or any other Logos 5 Package.

2. If you already own a Logos 4 Base Package then you can consider an Upgrade to Logos 5  --> https://www.logos.com/upgrade

Again, if want all the features at minimal cost then consider the Logos 5 Minimal Crossgrade which is the first option on the Upgrade page.

Carefully study the resources and features you will be getting in each package (incl. Crossgrade) and ask back here if there are any concerns.

Chris, I have L3 running on Win8. If you are still interested see this thread: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/61297.aspx

I have tested on Win8 and cannot find a problem with the account manager. It is possible that this is not a Win8 issue for you, but a Admin rights issue.

Try running this command from the "C:\Program Files (x86)\Libronix DLS\System" folder:

LdlsAdmn /a YourUserName

Where YourUserName is your Windows login name.

If you get a message that says it was successful, then try the account manager again. Let us know if this fixes it.

Nope it does not fix the issue with Account Manager. I will try a fresh install from the zip file you linked in your thread and come back with more information!

Thanks so much for helping everyone =)

---EDIT---

I have re installed from the zip you linked to. Tried applying IE9 fix... and doing what is quoted... but Account Manager still does not allow me to get past the "Existing User / Enter Codes" screen. I see that people got past this by using the "From a Backup" option. Is there a way of editing an existing Libronix Lisence backup file so that I could enter in my lisence codes etc? That's probably pushing it I know - I just wondered?

You install your resources from CD or DVD. Each one will have an activation code that you enter when the setup program prompts you. After you have done this, you can then save the activation to a backup file. This eliminates the need to install again from CD or DVD.

If you do not have a backup file, you have to enter the codes that came with your library media.

When you install from the ZIP file, it installs the latest program, which is good. But it does not install resources or prompt you for these codes. You need to insert your CD or DVD and let it detect. You should then be prompted to install, copy resources, and enter the activation codes.

I bought a Study Bible at a local christian bookstore and there was a bonus CD that had the LIbronix CD with version 3.0 I ran the update but I see it is still version 3.0 I am running windows 8 operating system also. IS the logos 5 free engine available ?

Thanks in advance,

Lynna

Hi Lynna - and welcome to the forums

Lynna Lunsford:

Not at the moment.

The two ways to get Logos 5 at the moment are either through the purchase of base packages or one of the "crossgrade" options from L4. Both of these are chargeable.

The free engine should be available in the first quarter of 2013

Chris, I had to call into tech support to get libronix running on my win 8 box. I have full functionality, but it will lock up about 10% of the time when I click on something that it does not like. I am also running logos 5 but I don't know my id so it wont activate, and I only have about 2/3 of books.  The ones that I added last Christmas are all missing and am not sure what that is all about.  but getting back to libronix... some of the non functioning issues seem to be what your machines/OS config is.  some win 8 machines will run libronix, and some wont.  hope that this helps

Yes!  I'm running Windows 8 Pro, installed over my Windows 7.  I never thought about my Logos 3.0g; but just went ahead and installed Windows 8, including IE 10.

Amazingly, Logos 3 still works.  I don't really use it; but I like having it around!            *smile*             Peace to all!
