Hello,

I upgraded to Logos 5 Gold - straight across from Logos 4 Gold.  And so far, I like the new version.

But I can't seem to get the Phrase Concordance feature to work.

I know that it's supposed to be enabled within the Bible Word Study feature - but when I search for a phrase nothing happens.

Am I doing something wrong?

Or is there something I need to make it work?

I read somewhere that I need to have the - Phrase Concordance Data Set - which I thought was included in Logos 5 Gold.

Open your BWS and type in the word son in English. You should get several options in the phrase section. This feature does come with Gold.

So you can't type in your own phrase?

I was trying to do a search on the phrase "in Christ" - and also these variations - "in Christ Jesus" - "in Jesus" - "in Him".

I think this concept of who we are "in Christ", and and what we have "in Christ", and what it really means to be "in Christ" is a valid topic for a sermon or Bible Study.

But I can't seem to search for that phrase in BWS.  When I do, nothing happens.

I'm probably doing something wrong.  But in any event - how would you guys approach a study of the concept of what we have, and who we are, and what it really means to be "in Christ" - in Logos?

(BTW - I'm using Logos 5 Gold)

I did a BWS on Christ to see if "in Christ" or one of its equivalents was listed there.

I decreased the font size to get most of the phrases found  show up in the screen shot. I noticed that the phrases used all function nominally, basically they are a thing that can be used as the subject of a sentence."in Christ," while an important Biblical theme is a prepositional phrase. And the Phrase concordance (at least at this point) doesn't seem to have those.

I then ran a topic guide on "In Christ" to see if anything important came up. The "related verses" section doesn't seem to contribute much. I'm not certain what logic produced those particular verses... perhaps it pulled from a Christology list?

I played around some more and nothing seemed to replace doing "in Christ" searches in English and Greek while looking for patterns. I will say that the groundwork for making this work seems to be in place but features need to be added. For example the syntax graphs do tag the "him" pronouns as referring to Jesus but the syntax search document doesn't seem to support looking for that tag yet.

For now, you can't search a phrase in BWS: you can in Bible Search, as George has illustrated. At present, you can search a word, and see associated phrases. The phrases themselves are hyperlinks to to Bible Search: so clicking on either of these links will search for this phrase as a whole.

Well, this is what I had to do also - to be able to find them.

But what I would really like to be able to do - (mainly in the Topic or Sermon Stater Guide) - is to type in a phrase like "in Christ" and have Logos search my Library for anything that refers to that phrase

And that would include anything that refers to it using different words or phrases - you would then also get "in Him" and "in Jesus" and "in the One", etc. included in your search results.

You could search just your Bibles - or just your collections or the entire library.

And then it would be awesome if Logos added a research tool where you could pick and choose - and gather all of your results, and save them for future use.  But that's a story for another forum thread.  I guess.
