with the release of Logos 5.0a, the also have a new Logos icon. To be honest, I strongly prefer the old one. This one looks older and it seems to have less pixels.

I agree. It feels like change for change's sake..
The new Logos 5 icon.
Yes, this has been commented on in several threads concerning L5. I think it could be a pretty nice icon with some touch-up and devoted time. It appears as though they have taken the old L4 icon, and just removed a layer or colored a layer white. If Logos will just reverse the colors of the original without changing resolution or size, it just may be pretty good.
Depending on your platform, you can use a custom icon of your preference. I've made some in the past and it's really not that hard to substitute an alternative icon including the old L4 icon.
I agree. Actually, Logos has an alternative right in the same directory as the new one, however, don't consider it. [:)]
I, myself, may play around with the original a little and completely reverse the colors, but it is much better to have an actual Logos accepted icon.
I too prefer the old one.
EDIT: Incidentally, I just notice they are still using the old L4 logo on their Twitter account. Shh! Nobody tell them.
I have the old icon pinned to the taskbar. It still functions as it should. However the icon in the start menu is the new flavor.
Anyone care to post a screen shot? [;)]

I don't have the L4 icon anymore.

That didn't work. I'll have to get the images the long drawn out way.

Ok, lets try this again.
Wow. Those are both ugly. Glad I'm on Mac. [;)]

They are actually "shortcuts" (pointers to an application) as opposed to the icon for the application itself.
On my taskbar I have the icon shown below:
The "whiter" icon appears in other places as well!
The old L4 icon for the PC was much better, but the new one has potential. The Mac one does look much better than both PC icons (L4 and L5). This probably has a lot to do with the Mac's roots (designed for graphics). [:)]
what about this icon?

These are much better depictions of the true PC icons. I had problems with obtaining them using the snippet tool.
Hey, hey, hey. Are you trying to bring about a suit? [:D]
[Y] +1
Why would the shortcut be any different than the icon for the application?

To indicate that it is a link to the application as opposed to the application itself.
When I install an application into Windows the software is placed in its destination folders including an icon to invoke the application.
If I want to access the application from somewhere else - such as an icon on my desktop - I create a shortcut to it. These, by default, have the arrows as shown to signify their role.
One can delete a shortcut without impacting the application, deleting the application itself can cause some problems!
Yes… but don't shortcuts have a little shortcut icon attached to them anyway? Why not use the regular icon?
Hey just make your own like I dd and then you can have any icon you want.

They are using the regular icon - but changed for L5.
As Erwin mentioned he had difficulty in capturing images of his so I just uploaded mine for comparison.
The new icon is an epic fail for me. Please review this and maybe do some UAT with a few different options.
Not only does the older remain in the taskbar, but it seems to have stayed the same in the button bar of my copy of Total Commander. It would also appear to be whatever you want it to be in another launch program.
The new icon in Windows is much more like what seems to be popular in Windows 8. Doesn't bother me, but it's not nearly as good as it could be for such a great program.
Not only does the older remain in the taskbar
My icon changed on the task bar and the desktop shortcut. Also, in my application file I don't see any kind of an alternate icon. I know that I am in the minority but I actually like it.

The alternate icon is located through the "Change Icon" button. On W7, this facility looks like this.
This is what appears when the "Change Icon..." button is pressed.
Thanks Erwin, I learned something new today! [Y]

You're welcome Rick. I am happy that I am able to help. [:)]
I went to "previous versions" and reverted my desktop icon back to the classic one. We'll see if I have to do that every time there is an update to L5 or if it was a one time change.
Could you post the classic icon here? The previous posts seem to just be screenshots.
Thanks!
Armin
I actually prefer the new icon and new start up music. But then again I am one that feels every new version of any software should have small changes like these in order to go along with the whole new version theme.
Since I had a profound distaste for L4, I like the "white" icon...it reminds me that L4 is a thing of the past. It remains to be seen if I actually take a liking to L5...I am thinking I will stil have to use L3 since few to none of the things I voiced as needing seem to have been included in L5. I find it all quite disgusting, actually.
This is why it will be better to have a Logos supported or produced icon. The icon that Logos settles on will be the icon that will come with the program. I have changed icons in the past for various program, and the one that I change to last only until the next update.
On the Mac, the more traditional logo icon is readily accessible in the package contents. It's in ICNS format which readily converts to a PNG and then to an ICO format for Windows. Very nicely done--in stark contrast to the latest Win one. I really hope they continue to use it.

I found the old icon. I right-clicked the icon on my desktop, selected properties, shortcut, change icon. Then I used the path shown, went into this directory, looked around in the other directories and found somewhere the old icon called Logos4.exe.icon. I then copied it over to the new directory and could then select the icon.
Not to resurrect an old thread or anything, but I just downloaded Logos 5 platinum from the internet, and my icon is simply the mac 'application' icon. I can't get the logos icon to occur.
Any thoughts? Thanks

Welcome to the Logos community of users. This is the best resource of helpful info that you will find. Lots of experienced users to quickly answer your questions. Some of us are not experts, but do have some years of experience with Logos.
Logos is a huge powerful program that presents a learning curve. Watch the free videos that are available.
I'm not familiar with the Mac app, but you should be aware that L5 takes a long time to download and hours to index. You might be experiencing a transition process of some kind. Some have found that not everything necessarily downloads in the first round. It's always a good idea on a major download like this to wait until the indexing is through and then restart at least once before assuming that everything is complete.
Don't be afraid to ask. We were all once right where you are.
Speak for yourself--I was born with a Silver Base Package in my hand.

True. Not all of us started with a "mere" L5 Platinum pkg. It took most of us years to reach that status.
If Right click on application, then Get Info, what does Preview show ?
Wiki has => http://wiki.logos.com/Screenshot Personally used OS X keyboard shortcut, then Preview, saving file as PNG, then attached to forum reply using paper clip.

Logos 5.0b Beta 2 Get Info:
Noticed Logos has tweaked Logos 5 for OS X icon a bit more (smoothed color graduation), initially was a darker shades of blue compared to Logos 4 Mac:
Logos for Mac v1 had a Libronix icon corresponding to the initial port of Libronix 3 to Mac OS X. Logos for Mac v1 lacked many features compared to Libronix 3.0g
Keep Smiling [:)]
What about this icon? I made the new icon using Photoshop CS6 from all different kinds of sources. Have fun...
