I don't like it. The new tray icon is too tiny due to the new border and makes it hard to make out the magnifying glass. The old one was way better. It matched the website and the program icon.
What does everyone else think?

New:
I like the new changes. It sets it apart from L4 (has L4 icons changed as well?). I have L5 so I don't know if it changed for both.
At the end of they day....it is just an icon and really has nothing to do with the functionality or the look of the program itself.
Sure. But as a software designer, things like this bother me

In the small form it appears in the system tray I like the old one better. It seems more well defined.
But the reality is I really don't care what the icon looks like. [:D]

Haha! Fair enough!
I agree. I feel the same about the full sized icon too. They also look like they were redesigned in 15 minutes on the back of an envelope. [E]

Strange Old New
That's on your Mac. Same thing as my iMac. The ugly one is on my Windows laptop.
Can't wait till I can get a new Mac Book Air just so I can get rid of the ugly icon, hope to do that some time this coming year.
Blessings,
I agree. I feel the same about the full sized icon too.
Yes, please add the old icons back in. That new patch of blue and white definitely looks ugly (sorry to the person who made it his/her 'baby').
Well, I guess that, if there is not going to be any consistency between the the shortcut and the application icons, I would prefer the old over the current new also. I can see why they added the blue border (because the icon would be drowned out by the white background of the start menu), but it is too thick. I do believe that there should be a new/different icon between L4 and L5, and that the new one does have hope, but in it's current state, no. [:)]
Maybe Logos should ask the users for suggested icons, then finalize one (or a modification of one) before L5 gains in age.
You mean an icon design contest? Great idea!
I like the old one much more than the new one. I think it is actually the first new thing Logos has come with I don't like [:)]

Yes. There are users of various experience here, from newborns to seniors, and what appears to be the common thought on the new icon is that it should be changed somehow. So something has definitely went wrong in the selection of this icon. Technically, it does not matter what the icon is, as it doesn't effect the program use, but it sticks out enough for just about everyone to comment on. [:)]
Since we are on icons, how about making the startup splash screen smaller like the previous size and give it rounded corners.
For sure I'm not trying to be "contrary"! *smile*
However, I DO like the new one! Peace to all!
Every time I look at the new one, I think that a layer of snow has fallen on the Logos icon.
OK, here's the challenge, pick out the most undistinguished of the icons shown below. They are all basic blue and white (a little yellow on one), so you won't be choosing based on your color preferences:
No, with all respect Lynden, in this one I am strongly FOR the new version because it is very consistent with the new style of Windows 8 and I like those very much also. Just an opinion.

...which users resoundingly hate [;)]
Back to the new tray icon, it's the only thing displeasing to me with L5. It looks like a shell of its former self. I much prefer the one with L4.
Mark, that's not a fair comparison. I run with 5 raccoon eyes! All staring at me. Back! Back you snarly raccoons!!
I like the one on the far right.
I think its take your pick of anyone except the left-most for desirable. Shading/highlights/rounding. All there except for the left-most one. (I do like the Mac Logos icon even better. There, I said it. I like one thing on the Mac. [;)])

Mark,
That's the way it all starts, you like one thing about it and next thing you know there is an iMac sitting on your desk and you find yourself wishing you had a Mac Book Air.

Agreed, concerning the icons. I do, however, like the screen on those high-priced Retina everything-is-glued-in/soldered-so-you-cannot-upgrade-it MBP's. [H]

...not all so resoundingly, I suppose. I am just one more example some people actually like it. [:O]

me 2 ... I've been on Win 8 since the RP was released and like it better than Win 7 ... of course I also liked Vista more than XP (it was much more stable ... no more BSOD) and Me more than 98SE ... I also like OS X (and, yes, the Logos icon is best there) ... so maybe I'm just weird [8-|]
(I do like the Mac Logos icon even better. There, I said it. I like one thing on the Mac. )
Well of course — everything's better on the Mac. But you haven't seen the Logos icon as it really is, here it is taken directly from the Logos 5 Mac application. Click on it to see the actual size!
The Apple icons for things like Keynote, Pages are even more cool [:P]
I have to admit that does look good, Patrick.
I have to admit that does look good
at least better than the new one. But it's not 256 x 256 and I assume that's why it doesn't work as an icon. Have you seen the cool, Win7-looking icon from this thread: http://community.logos.com/forums/t/61179.aspx - very nice now in my taskbar.
EDIT: for the purists, there's the old logo as is associated with the L4 setup file (don't run, just extract and use as the source for the icon 1207.LogosSetup.zip:

Natch

Nope... actually the icon goes up to (cough) 1,024 x 1,024... which is standard for Macs
What about this for an app icon (this is a small icon size for Pages)
and I assume that's why it doesn't work as an icon.
Yep it does, the Mac icon file has all sizes embedded in it. One could even take the Mac icon and — gasp — port it to Windows.

Mouse pad? [;)]
I was referring to the numerous articles saying sales have been worse than expected, and the numerous articles trashing the UI in detail, including articles showing how typical tasks require more keystrokes and are proving totally intuitiveness to users. Don't get me wrong, I am a big Windows fan and have worked closely with Microsoft for years. But this is their biggest OS disaster since Windows Bob - but much more far-reaching than Bob.

Glad I have Win7. The whole Win8 has no appeal to me. I hope it goes the way of Windows Bob.
Now back to Logos...
Two very good reasons why my next laptop will be a Mac.
1) Windows 8
2) The New Windows Logos Icon
Ditto!
I have "created" a dual boot system, so I can switch between 7 and 8. I originally got 8 for my tablet PC. It became obvious that it has advantages in a PC environment. It has bugs. What software doesn't? I really believe that after a Service release or 2, and overcoming the learning curve, It will be a workable OS. Certainly not the disaster Vista was. [:)]
