Quick question:
Has anyone tried L5 on an MBA? I'm interested to know how it compares performance wise to L4.
Thanks.
Hi Jason,
I am on L5 on and MBA (2011) as I type [:D].
I never had any problems with L4Mac. Performance was always better than acceptable.
However, having said this, L5 feels significantly more responsive. I have also noticed a significant improvement with regards to notes. I no longer notice any lag (unless L5 is indexing). I cannot comment definitively with regards to stability (I have not been using it long enough), but I have yet to experience a crash since coming out of Beta.
Blessings [:D]

I haven't tried Logos on a MBA however... I can tell you (esp. building on Andy's comment) that if you wanted to use a MBA — the latest model — as a viable platform for running Logos then you will have a nice system. I would say to consider the 11" MBA (if the screen size is OK for you). The MBA is a very capable platform and... can be extended. For example I got my daughter an 11" MBA for her at university. She has a great machine that she slips into a backpack and is incredibly portable. In her college dorm she has a 23" monitor and external HDD. Best of both worlds.
The only thing I would be recommending if you are planning to buy a one is — budget permitting — to go for the best processor possible (i7) and max out the RAM to 8GB. Both of these things cannot be changed after purchase. You can swap out the SSD drive, you can attach external HDD (USB 3.0 / Thunderbolt) you can attach a 27" monitor to it — but you can't upgrade the CPU or RAM.
Good luck!
Thanks guys. That sounds promising...
Perhaps I should clarify - I already have an MBA 2012 i7 2.0 with the ram maxed out to 8GB. When at home, it's hooked up to a 47" LCD 1080p TV which I have setup as an extension of the onboard screen. Very nice for academic study!
I didn't want to upgrade incase it resulted in a more clunky system. But from what you're saying, this isn't so.
Jason
My MBA just flies with L5. Much faster than L4. I use mine for academic study too.
Every blessing
Alan
Ahhhh — but are you pumping it out to a 47" LCD screen?! That's what I would call heavy academia, a weighty word.... [:O]
Just something to think about.... imagine doing that on a 47" CRT screen. That would be a sight, don't know if they ever manufactured to that size!
I am using a 2011 11"MBA. I am more than happy with the performance. I absolutely love it!!! L5 seems much more responsive than L4. I do find myself wishing I had the bigger screen of the 13" though. Maybe next time

Noticed Apple recently reduced a refurbished 2011 model: 13" with 1.7 GHz 2nd Generation i5, 4 GB Ram, and 128 GB SSD for $ 869 => http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/specialdeals/mac/macbook_air
Also noticed an 11" MacBook Air with 1.6 GHz 2nd Generation i5, 4 GB Ram, and 128 GB SSD for $ 799
Caveat: at times, the special limited pricing is not in stock.
Apple has refurbished 2012 MacBook Air models: e.g. 13" with 3rd Generation 1.8 GHz i5, 4 GB Ram, 128 GB SSD for $ 1,019 => http://store.apple.com/us/product/FD231LL/A/refurbished-macbook-air-18ghz-dual-core-intel-core-i5
The 2011 model with 13" screen, 1.8 GHz i7, 4 GB Ram, and 256 GB SSD is $ 1,119 => http://store.apple.com/us/product/G0ME0LL/A/refurbished-macbook-air-18ghz-dual-core-intel-core-i7

I have a 13" Macbook Air (2012) with 8GB of RAM - L5 is MUCh more responsive than L4 was on this machine. Works great!
