Stacking searches

I upgraded to 5 mainly because i was intrigued by the clause search. However, I wasn't able to accomplish what I wanted on the first time out. I was preparing a sermon on God and Christ as king. What I wanted to do was to find all the places where the word "king" refers to the person:God. From what I have seen there doesn't seem to be a way to do this, though the information is available in the tags. Is there a way, or will this be a feature in the future? Likewise, a round about method though not exact would be to search search results. First search for all the places where king is located. Second do a clause search of the search result to see where person:god is in the verse. This could also be accomplished by allowing a Bible Search with in the Clause search, for instance (person:god word:king) There would be some false positives, but still closer than the current methods.

If you use the Bible Facts tool and search God, the referred to section says he is referred to as king 12x and then gives the references

Thank you. I didn't see this. This helps in my preparation. However, this is not a comprehensive list. Surely this list is incomplete without Ps 47. Also my question is about the mechanics of search which would extend to other words and combinations.

The referred list is showing you is places where "the king" is used and it refers to God.

So, looking at Psalm 98:6 (the second result) the word "king" is tagged as "God"

This is how I read what you were asking for in the original post and, I guess, Fred did as well.

Can you explain a bit more what you are looking for?

Looking a bit more at the Psalm you referenced.

"king" in verses 2 and 7 is tagged as "A king" which is why it wasn't returned by the Bible Facts search (and if you put "A king" into the Bible Facts tool you get those two references)
"King" in verse 6 is tagged as "God" so should have shown up
In "God is king" in verse 8 "is king" is a verb (so I guess the idea is "God rules") and so wouldn't appear in the results

So the one I would have expected to show up in the tool was the reference in verse 6 and I don''t understand why it doesn't

This is the standard way to find a noun referred to by another noun - people, places or things. Unfortunately, this is a poor example as there are coding errors in Ps 47 - I've reported 3 but there is also correct coding which should have brought it up. Unfortunately, there is no Find in pane function so one has to export to the clipboard then paste into a passage list to see where Ps. 47 appears and report the appropriate bug. I was just in the process of do this when Logos 5 decided it had had enough and crashed. But you are correct that there is a problem.

Well, doing a standard Bible search of: (God OR LORD OR yahweh OR Jehovah) AND king

I found some references that should come up in that list. Of course I didn't analyze the whole list. That is what I was hoping Logos would do. Likewise there may be verses with king that do not directly mention God or lord, which should likewise be on the list (which makes this feature of more interest). Some of these references were tagged as God others were not.

Ps.5:2; 10:16; 20:9; 44:4; 45:11;
68:24; 84:3

Ps 20:9(this depends on translation/interpretation)

Isa 33:22; 43:15; 44:6

Jer 10:10

These also seemed to me that they should be on the list, but I am not sure on the exact understanding of tagging and they may questionable if they would be tagged in your system.

Ps 24:8,10; 29:10; 74:12

I suspect there should be quite a few more. If this many tags are not showing up, it puts the comprehensiveness and thus usefulness of the clause search and Bible tool in doubt.

Thanks for the help. Sermon wise I am ready for Sunday. Its not like I am going to inundate the people with a list of verses that mention God as King anyway. However, personally I did wish to see how a study like this would work and what interesting observations could be made.

And this I think is the key issue - and we have seen it in other contexts as well.

This is something which I believe Logos does need to address urgently.

It doesn't necessarily come up with verses where God is tagged as "a king" - an example where it doesn't do so from your search is Ps 76:12 where God is inspiring "fear in the kings of the earth" (and "kings" is tagged as "a king")

Am I missing the point of what you are showing here?

Concur clause search needs improvement. Another example not in the Clause Search results is Psalms 84:3

Ps 5:2 ESV & NRSV are tagged correctly; this apparently is a Search problem

Ps10:16 is a tagging error

If your BSL runs - mine crashes - run a God equivalent to King search ... enter God and the correct item will appear on the drop down.. It should show everything that is tagged for this sense of God.

Yes, being able to get references from the BSL would be really helpful.

But its strange this gives 22 references whereas the Bible Facts references section just shows 12!
