It's not possible to share resources between the various installations.

I've made my settings identical to Johns and i continue to be stuck "Downloading Resources" in the setup process. Its had "downloading resources" and 0% of 2.0 MB for 4 or 5 hours. any thoughts on what is wrong or what i might be doing wrong?

Thanks,

Wes

Hi Wes,

This sounds like a Parallels issue in accessing your internet or an issue with a firewall. Since I do not allow my system to access the internet from the windows side I do not use any antivirus software. Can you determine if you can access the internet from the Parallels side? If so, is there any firewall you are using that would require permission for L4 to access the internet? Finally you may need to go to the Parallels forum for advise.

Hello Eveyone!

I am a new Logos 4 user. I have a Mac OS X with 2GB and 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo. I've downloaded the logos 4 on my Mac but I don't think it's working, I'm not even sure if it's finished indexing. Can I download Logos 4 again with boot camp or will Parallels work?

VM's like Paralells work just fine.  In fact, that is the method I would suggest for running the Windows engine on your Mac.  That way you can use all of your other Mac apps alongside Logos 4 until the Mac engine is ready.

So will this mean I would have to buy windows and the VM? and will it be a problem to run the Logos 4 again on windows side?

  Thanks Michael!

I would suggest either bumping up the RAM to use parallels or use Boot Camp. I don't think the performance would be acceptable trying to split 2g between OSX and the virtual machine. I have 4g in my machine. I have designated 1.5 to Parallels, and the rest left to OSX. I like to leave Logos open all the time, since I use it at least twice a day. But I have found that sometimes things get to moving really slow. For instance, this weekend I had some updating to do on the web page and with parallels still running, I ended up with Dreamweaver, Fireworks, Photoshop, Entourage, Itunes, and Firefox running at the same time. Although this would normally not be a problem at all, with the virtual machine still loaded, the system slowed to a crawl. Once I managed to shut things down, of course it was back to business as usual. I ordered a 4g chip monday to bring it up a bit. Once it gets here I will sell the pair of 2g and order a second 4g. That is my experience. But mileage may vary.

The flip side is that A14 should arrive today, and if things keep progressing as they have, purchasing parallels and adding memory might not be worth it to you in the long run. Since you are a new user, you may be able to settle with the Alpha while learning the software and not do anything. I think they are adding functionality on a bi-weekly schedule. I have to run the VM for my financial software anyway. But, you may not have any other need for a VM and choose to avoid the expense and hassle.

Thanks Dewayne!

I am really trying to cut down the expense. So with A14 arriving today will this mean we will have to download new upgrades or something? if so how do we download these upgrades, and how do I know if indexing is complete or not? Please help!!!

Thanks Again!

First of all, I may not be the best source of knowledge on the issue, but I would be glad to help with the assistance of the others here.

Second, when you say you are a new user of Logos 4, what does that mean? What were you using before this? Libronix, Logos for Mac 1, PC versions, or nothing from Logos?

Third, we will see if we can determine where you are now in your process of installation.

Patience will be the key.

I wasn't using anything from Logos, I downloaded the software two days ago and left the computer on all night. The next morning I saw the Logos homepage and didn't see the Logos icon at all, with this I assumed that everything was done including indexing, last night I shutdown the computer and this morning I say the Logos icon that stated that it was still indexing and it would take 2 hours, then 30 min. later it said 44 min. was left, now the icon is no longer there. This is were I am with this whole process, and with me being a new user I don't know what to look for and what to expect at this point or later after it's all done.

What library did you purchase, or what books? That might help us know what to expect time wise.

Something that helped me know what was going on behind the scenes was to open the Logos4.log file in console. It is dynamic, so you can watch the process and see where you are. It actually indicates what file is being indexed and any errors, how long it takes, etc...

The file is located in your home folder/Library/Application Support/Logos4/Logging/.

You can post these log files for the Logos Techs to determine what might be happening.

I have been called a computer geek on more than one occasion, so I am comfortable with all of this. If you are not, just post the log files for others to look at here in the forum. The guys here are great when it comes to helping someone get going. Although I read most of what is posted, I am usually too busy to take an active role. But I have a little time now and am glad to put in my two cents.

I have had the Mac app loaded since the beginning and have skipped many of the updates. At 13a I deleted the entire installation and started over. This corrected some problems I was having and now it is working fine. Of course compared to the PC version we still have a long ways to go. But once I let it index until complete, I haven't had any troubles. At this moment it is updating all of my Journals due to some files released last week. So I will be going through some more indexing myself. It can be a long process and I have found that if you are going to close the computer(if it is a notebook) , be sure to right click the icon and pause the indexing. Otherwise it seems to have to start over.

I purchased the Sliver package and I will try to look for this file and also try to post it. Do you think that I should also delete the installation and start over? Thank you so much for helping me!

Since you have the Silver, I would expect it to take overnight and then some to get indexed. I wouldn't start over at this point. At least not until someone with Logos can look at the log files.

That is what I would expect on first installation.

Click the 'book' icon next to the home icon on the top left and see if any books are showing up in the library.

Also, is there an icon showing up in the menu extras? If so, hover it and see if there is a notification of what is happening.

There are books in the library and I don't see any other icons besides the home, book, and glass. I also went in and found the Logos 4 log but I'm not sure how to post it, tried cut and past, didn't work.

If there are books in your library and you can open them, then you may be good to go. The menu extras are the icons on the top right of you screen that are basically the equivalent of the Windows task tray. If you do not have a blue logos icon there, then you are likely installed and indexed completely. As far as the log file goes, you have to use the paperclip in the forum page and go find the log file from there. You also might have to 'zip' it up first. But it sounds like that may not be necessary.

Ken Powell:
I'll let you know how the move from 64bit Win7 to 32bit works for speed.

Ken,

Did you ever try the 32bit vs the 64bit? I am curious if it sped things up at all.
