Which commentaries are known to have stories/illustrations in connection alongside their commenting on the text?
William Barclay's Daily Bible Study Commentaries - excellent historical commentaries. I am more conservative than Barclay, but I appreciate the depth of his knowledge more and more. The depth of his knowledge and his ability to communicate it are amazing.
N. T. Wrights "For Everyone's Commentaries"
Expository Commentaries usually have some good ones. These would include Warren Wiersbe's "Be" Commentaries, James M. Boices' commentaries, and John MacArthur's commentaries also have good illustrations.
The Preacher's Commentary is another good resource.
Preaching the Word series also is in such a manner. Anyone else know of others?
[Y] One of the best.
By the way, I did not mean to say Barclay was an excellent historical "commentary". I intended to say "excellent historical illustrations". His illustrations from history are very good and interesting.
Preaching the Word really is one of the best!! [Y][Y][Y]
I believe Boice also would be good as well.
