DMB:

I already crashed it just turning off the community settings. 30 seconds flat.

Logs?

Went into program settings and told it to turn off community tags. The tags still appear. Waited about 30 seconds. Does the program need to restart? If so, this information needs to be put in the popup coming from the question mark in settings.

The tags pane was already showing at the time.

Again, this all happened in beta together with a similar request to document it. I'm very disappointed that Logos don't hear or communicate. At least you didn't crash.

DMB, you have a knack for breaking things. You should apply for a job in Logos's testing department. They need people like you who can break it in-house before it gets released to the world.

They have to let him use his own system to maximize his effectiveness. ;)

I'm not able to reproduce this. If you can reproduce it easily, a screencast may be helpful.

What is the "tags pane"?

Here's the log files this morning. I notice it usually takes about 10 seconds for it to 'respond to crash' (meaning it's fully operable in those 10 seconds, before the software is de-contrasted).  Also if it'd help diagnosis, this morning's crash was with a clean layout. Last night it was with a library embedded in the top window of a 5 window layout. In the latter, you could see it resetting the library, with the crash after that.

EDIT: (removed discussion on control-click on taskbar Logos that didn't work; too flaky to reliably repeat). But I did notice (and please don't fix) that the little trick of putting a dummy argument in the Logos icon to generate a blank layout does just that (and ignores the Logos setting, which IS GOOD). However it then shows the most recent layout name in the title (which is NOT the desired Settings option), and also shows it loaded in 'Layouts' (which of course it is not). Kind of gives a clue on the programming sequence.  But anyone using this little 'trick' needs to be careful, since like the panel coordination in another still-remaining Logos4 bug, the Logos5 software doesn't actually check to see what was loaded.

Can someone explain how this function works:Implemented

Mobile Download Management. Manage download to mobile devices on resource information panel in My Library or in resource information pane in Resource Panel. Unregister devices on your Logos.com account page.

Because logos does not seem to recognize my andriod ereader. Is it only working at the moment the device is also connected to the internet?

Do you have the Logos app installed on your Android device and entered your account info into it?

Goodness, the new Layout changes (Layout panel) vs the startup is positively dangerous. I'm not trying to be critical or snobby; it just needs some review of the program flow.

The identification of the layout (title/layout panel) needs to make sure the layout was actually loaded.

Right now, a saved icon from the Users/<account>/AppData/Local/Logos4 (meaning a clean icon) will load up my Logos5, no layout showing, but the title shows a layout name (my big one) and opening the Layout panel shows the big layout in use (even though it's a blank layout being used).  In my settings, the open layout is set to 'Home' even though it thinks it has loaded my big-boy layout.  And the opening doesn't open to 'Home' anyway; not sure about 'that' bug.

Bottom line is to be very careful updating the layouts. In my case it's pretty obvious: a blank layout vs a 5-window layout. But other people might have layouts with very minor differences.

I know it's against Logos policy, but I really wish users could 'save to disk' since at the moment I've no confidence concerning the viability of  my large 90 resource layout. I suspect it's going to bite the dust soon enough.

Mobile Download Management. Manage download to mobile devices on resource information panel in My Library or in resource information pane in Resource Panel. Unregister devices on your Logos.com account page.

The registered devices should show up in the Resource info window in the Library for each resource, allowing you to see which apps on which devices have downloaded the resource.  You can check the checkbox to force the resource to be downloaded next time you open the app.  Or uncheck it to remove the resource from the app.

This example shows that Logos knows about my iPad and that I've installed those four different Logos apps at some time: Faithlife, Logos, Verbum, and Vyrso.  The Logos app is the only app that has downloaded this resource, so it is the only one checked.  BTW, I only have Logos and Vyrso currently installed (the Logos servers can't detect when I uninstall an app).  If I checked the checkbox under the Vyrso icon, then the Vyrso app would download the resource the next time I opened Vryso. If I unchecked the checkbox under the Logos icon, then the Logos app would delete the resource the next time I opened that app.

Multiple select works with these options, so you can easily add or remove groups of books from each device.

Also you can remove registered devices by going to your account details on the Logos website.  On the main account details tab, towards the bottom of the page, there is a list of devices that the Logos servers know about.  If you move the mouse over them, you see links to edit (change the name) or remove them from the list.

If your device doesn't show up, I would make sure you have the latest version of the mobile app for your device.

90 resources?  Could you post a picture of that?  I'm having a hard time imagining why having 90 resources open at the same time would be useful.

Can't post a picture; it's on 5 windows.  It started out with Logos4 on a netbook when resources were slow to load. But eventually it became 'my platform'. OT is in one window, NT another, lexicons all linked in another along with pre-set search panels and pre-set library, etc. Plus a couple of reading windows (separate subject areas).

Logos has a lot little tweaks that are nice. One is the ability to have multiple comparison panels, cited-by panels, search panels, etc which then allows creating tailored layouts per window (and not having to re-invent each time).

So with W7's stable 'sleep' I simply load it and it's there for use for weeks at a time. All in predictable places, etc.  What's even better is that the windows load out predictably into the MS Windows task bar so each is in a known order.

Yes, local backup of layouts, collections, notes and a few others

Maybe, next time you use the 90 resource layout you might want to check memory usage before and after.  Did Logos run out of memory?

Edit: “never had a memory issue”  I did say maybe – More Bibles take more memory so

Logos Memory usage  Count of Bibles open and free memory

Open blank screen no home page             1098 free

Open multi bible layout  13                           996 free

Open multi bible layout  18                           970 free

Open multi bible layout  26                           902 free

Open multi bible layout  34                           870 free

Logos4 or 5 has never had a memory issue on my netbook before or Lenovo x220 now. RAM shifts 1% between a blank layout and a fully-loaded one.  Plus surprisingly the large layout loads fairly quickly.  I think a while back in Logos4 they optimized the resource loads as to how much was kept in memory.

It's a nice piece of programming work, whoever did it (loading and coordinating resources across formats, fonts, etc).

Thanks for posting the logs. I can reproduce this crash when working offline. It will be fixed in 5.0b SR-1.

As a workaround, either work online or don't change those settings when working offline.

I'm sorry, but I don't follow what you're describing here. I'm not sure what you mean by "a saved icon ... meaning a clean icon".

I think I'm understanding (from the rest of your post) that you have "At Startup Open To" set to "Home", but when you open the program it opens to a blank layout and displays "Logos Bible Software 5 - Some Other Layout" in the window caption? Is that correct?

Can you please post more specific steps to reproduce this problem?

Thank you Bradley on the crash issue.

And also on the startup curiousity. I put 'clean icon' since I also use a dirty icon (with a dummy argument to force a blank screen). So in the problem description, I was / am using a default startup (no funny business).

After playing around with it a while, the problem seems to be in the Tools > Settings > Startup option. If it's set to a specific layout, all goes well. If it's set to 'Home' then during startup, it seems to think it has loaded the last used layout, even though no layout is actually loaded.  The title shows a layout loaded but a blank screen. Then if you go to the layout panel, it has the last-used-layout as checked even though the layout in use is blank.

So I'm guessing if there's an issue, it's in the 'Home' logic in combination with a previously used layout. I zipped 2 files produced during startup (no error/crash files produced).

What is 5 windows, 5 monitors?

Have you tried Print-Screen to copy the image to the Clipboard?   I can capture a single image of two monitors with this method.
