Hebrew lemma searching

I cannot figure out why my Hebrew lemma searches are not working.
I right click on a work in BHS SESB, click lemma, search this resource and I get nothing.
Any thoughts?

I know that a SESB Syntax search will not work as Logos have not converted the database to L4 as yet. But a search of the Hebrew Bible resource as you suggest should work. A number of us are having a problem with a Morph Search of BHS 4.2 but "Search this resource" works! What is the version of the SESB bible?

Dave,
It is BHS SESB 2.0. This is the latest version of BHS SESB. Though it says 2.0 it is from the SESB 3.0 collection (I have upgraded). The problem is not BHS SESB specific. I get the same results with the Westminster BHS.
Since I first posted I have successfully ran a "search this resource" on a couple verbs, but other still give me nothing. For example, "search this resource" with בֹּהוּ in Gen. 1:2 gives me nothing; same thing with תֹּהוּ. On the other hand I get three results for רחף
Am I missing something?
thanks
Brian

My success rate in BHS 4.2 is the same as yours. We really need to hear from Logos.

The issue is not the resource, but the lemma itself. To my knowledge, Gen 1:2 is the only place where these two words are used in the Hebrew Bible (I also looked it up in the Concise Hebrew and Aramaic Lexicon). I could be wrong, but I think that is what is going on here.
I hope this helps.
Stuart.

Should we not then get 1 hit instead of zero?

Oops... my bad. תוֹהוּ is used elsewhere... perhaps there is a problem which I just can't figure out.
Sorry if I was less than helpful.
Stuart.

Not a problem. Sometimes even the wrong answers can get one thinking about the correct one...

This issue continues to be a problem for me as I read and study. Im simply trying to right click and "search this resource" for a lemma and it is not working (0 results).
If anyone from logos is listening, a comment would be nice.
Thanks to all who commented on this thread for taking the time to think about this issue with me.

I don't see this issue on the Bug Report on the wiki. That is where people in the forums have asked the Logos people to look and respond. One of you, I don't have SESB so can't, should post it there. http://wiki.logos.com/Logos_4_Bugs

Chris,
I have tried to figure out how to post a bug on the wiki, but I am having no success. I do not think this bug is resource specific. I have had the same problems in BHS SESB, and all the Westminsters.

I have a zero % success rate when I actually type a lemma in Hebrew. I don't know why; however, if I phonetically spell the lemma, I can get results. This has been a frustration, but I hope that works in the mean time for you.

Brian, we won't impose this on you! Keep reporting problems and we'll handle the wiki bug report!

I've just done a lemma search on all the Hebrew words in Genesis 1:2 by right click on the word, selecting lemma and choosing search this resource. I'd obviously expect at least one hit from every word. This are the ones that don't work:
- תֹּהוּ
- בֹּהוּ
- חֹשֶׁכְ
- פָּנֶה
- תְּהֹום
That's a reasonable percentage that don't work. Interestingly they are all from the middle of the verse, the words at the beginning and end work fine. This is unquestionably a bug - either in the resource or in the program.
As I have two indistinguishable SESB 2.0 Version I should add that this is BHSSESB.lbxlls

Mark, they should be distinguishable. If you open the information pane when in the resource at the bottom you can see that one is from 2006 (and has errors) and one is from 2009. Delete the former...

Thanks Damian. I've re-run the test in the 2009 edition, with the same results.
Even more interesting is that I get exactly the same results with BHS 4.2 - this demonstrates a serious bug with Logos4. We need to get Rick or Bradley to take a look at this thread. Can someone test this in the non-beta version of Logos?

Mark,
That's been done via the wiki bug report that Chris submitted at http://wiki.logos.com/Bug$3a_BHS_%E2%80%93_Westminster_3.5_$26_4.2_Lemma_Searches Feel free to add/clarify.

My success rate with BHS 4.2 in SR-7 parallels yours!

I was able to duplicate this in BHS WHM 4.2 and WIVU
It appears that L4 has serious Hebrew deficiencies

The wiki bug report http://wiki.logos.com/Bug$3a_Hebrew_Lemma_Searches_often_fail covers this issue.
We've reproduced it and are planning to fix it in 4.0b.

If you'd not mind being kissed by a 6'2" 260 lb old man with a walrus moustache and a unibrow, I'll land one on you! I have some cologne here someplace...
[:D] At least I thought I had some cologne. This will have to suffice for now:
Thank you!! [Y]
