Individual Volumes of EEC

We've decided to make the individual volumes of the Evangelical Exegetical Commentary available for purchase.

I know there are some strong feelings about this. We've discussed all the issues from all sides and have decided that it's in the best interest of the largest number of people to move forward with offering the volumes individually.

We realize that our original marketing communication wasn't clear enough about if or when we'd make this transition. We are very sorry for that and will work hard not to let that happen again. We also want to make sure you're completely happy with your purchase. If you in any way feel misled and no longer want the license to the full set, we're happy to give you a full refund. Keep in mind that having purchased EEC on Pre-Pub is still going to be by far the best deal. We're grateful for your help in making EEC a reality, and we're committed to protecting your investment.

Also can you post the link to see the release schedule dates. It has been so long since I first ordered the Pre-Pub that I don't remember and had almost forgotten about it.

Wow, I hope there is not too much slippage in the release dates or I'm going to be an old man by the time the set is complete. I didn't realize that it will be at least 2017! [:O]

I found out that the book of Job is not scheduled to be released until February 2019. This is worse that what I mentioned in my post above of the date 2017. I need "the patience of Job" because I'm going to be an old man by then. Five years from now is a long time and that is just the target date that doesn't take into account any slippage. Oh well, something to look forward to I guess.

This is a wise move. This commentary set is not going to be taken very seriously by scholars unless it gets a much broader audience than those who have subscribed to the Pre-Pub. The volumes so far have not made much of a wave, and are generally not ranked in the top ten commentaries even by evangelicals. This is not, I think, because the commentaries are mediocre. It is a matter of exposure. The more exposure the ECC volumes get, the more valuable they become. Seems like a win - win situation for all Logos customers to me. Those who ordered Pre-Pub got the best price, and by Logos selling volumes now, the volumes they own increase in value. Those who did not order Pre-Pub get a opportunity to purchase it now for a little higher price.

Are any of the volumes available in paper book format? I haven't seen any available. This would seem to be very important if you expect it to become a major commentary set. It needs to be in every seminary library.

Of course, there is also the issue of whether or not it is wise for Logos to become competitors with the publishers who provide the life blood for your company - books and commentaries.

I thought that I read that the entire project was originally envisioned to be a fully published paper version but the costs were so high that there was a significant risk of it never being written. So Logos made the suggestion that it be fully published digitally first with no concrete plans to necessarily ever commit to paper versions.

I commend Logos for this bold step but it does have its drawbacks. I agree with you that having paperback versions are necessary to get more exposure but I think that it may take a while.

At the very least, it should be available as "Print on Demand", for those wanting paper versions.

What about Exodus? Of the 5 EEC volumes that are shipping, that is the only one you are not offering for individual purchase and is actually the one I'm most interest in at this point.

When did it ship? They generally never offer individual books from a collection until at least six months after shipping. I would assume the same principle to apply here.

I sent an email to Phil Gons, and he and Jani Snell from Logos replied that Evangelical Exegetical Commentary Exodus would be posted and available for individual purchase no later than July 25.
