MVP's job description/responsibilities

Could someone point me to the page where there is more information about the MVP title? Or, if not, please perhaps try to answer the following questions I have. BTW, I am not into titles but definitely into functions. So, all of my questions pertain to functions and what to expect out of an MVP. (I know what at MVP is in the NFL Cool )

Given there are several MVP's now with an iconic type label, what does an MVP now do that the individual hadn't been doing before getting the title? Are there responsibilities that go with the title? Are the MVP's kind of like forum moderators? Was there a vote or were they appointed? I am honestly surprised that there are a few beta testers left out who are extremely knowledgeable and thoroughly helpful to me who are not on the list. Thanks for your help.

I don't think there's anything secret about this. Many companies have MVP's that serve in their forums to help answer questions.

The invitation I got from Logos said they wanted to acknowledge our contributions to the forums (quantity and quality were factors), and to put a star under our names to "let people know that you're known for your quality posts and are a trustworthy source of information." They also asked that by accepting this honor that we abide by a few guidelines that I, at least, was already committed to (basically don't use your MVP status to undermine the company).

To answer your questions:

We were asked specifically to just keep doing what we've already been doing.

There are no added responsibilities outside of following the guidelines I mentioned above.

No we're not moderators. At least we haven't been asked specifically to do that.

We were appointed by Logos.

Apparently there were a few who were extended invitations who did not accept (yet?). I don't know who they may be. But I agree, there are some here who are just as qualified as those with the stars.

I had hoped that Logos would announce this change and explain it in their own words.

That's a good answer to my questions. I admire all of you and am really thankful for your help. Sometimes I think you all deserve much more than "recognition". And are almost Logos employees, at that. Other forums I participate in have some individuals more knowledgeable and active but they do not have titles so I was just wondering.

However, there are times when I want an authoritative answer to a question and I know to put "Logos please answer" in the title to my post.

I understand that need, and hope that by attempting to answer those types of question, I don't jump in where I'm not wanted (I'm sure the others feel that way too). We just want to help other Logos users as we are able.

However, the Logos employees are all working very hard to get my NIV reverse interlinear done before Christmas. So they may not respond much until then. [;)] Actually, they are quite busy now and are choosing to spend their time working on the product rather than answering questions. That's a good priority, I think.

Though sometimes I think it would be great for us to see a bit more presence by Logos employees on this forum. And I've told them so. I'm sure it builds confidence in their company and their product.

Why do you want the Czech Bible? The KJV is the inspired one, you should just work from there. The Bible in your own tongue...who came up with that idea?

I could not agree with you more and think it could be a mistake if there is not more presence of Logos employees due to the new users who are rightfully dismayed with issues they have with the software. Other users can try to assuage their frustration/consternations but the "big picture" approach is what does work. And taking the dialogue to a higher level than users cannot effectively do.

Yea, I heard that already. If KJV was good enough for the Apostle Paul, why it would not be good enough for all others [:D] By the way, Czech Bible of Kralitz was translated by Unitas Fratrum scholars in 1579 from the original languages and with the translation apparatus. If you are indeed a trustworthy source of information, then I do want/expect correct answers. I don't mean to sound hard but this is what the statement means to me. In effect because Logos staff are busy working on program issues, then MVP's are designated to help us and answer questions. I guess I think MVP's really do have more responsibility than other users. Yes, they have more responsibility, but that responsibility was taken on by them voluntarily and existed in them before they became MVPs; nothing has changed afterwards. The title was given as a recognition of their outstanding service to the forum. They were not just like other users even before having the designation MVP, but it helps the rest of the users recognize which of the forum users are more likely to have helpful answers.

Well stated Rosie, that is and was my understanding of my end of the agreement. Viz. that I continue doing what I've been doing regarding helping others.

There is perhaps an expectation that I/we make sure we represent Logos well (ie with kindness, tact, etc.) since Logos has recognized us as such.

Hmm, There is no page, however today's blog post indicates well, nothing specific.

One final note: you’ll notice that some people have special logos under their names. These are to help you identify certain groups of people. Logos employees have the Logos logo, MP Seminars employees have their logo, and forum MVPs have a star. Clicking on the logo will take you to a page that displays everyone in that particular group.

Rosie, the whole "more likely" to have helpful answers I understand but there are times when I will have to have a definite answer to an important question and thus, I will have to turn to Logos for that. And, I do see them differently now with the MVP title; it means that if several users answer my question, then I will go with the answer the MVP gives me. Of course. MVPs are just here to help out, and they'll field a lot of the common questions which will take some of the load off the Logos customer support folks. If you have a question you'd rather ask Logos directly, then by all means do so. The MVPs are pretty sharp cookies, though, and they usually go out of their way to help people solve tricky problems. Not that the Logos tech support folks wouldn't do the same, but when the MVPs post answers here, that benefits everyone else who comes to the forum looking for answers. There are, of course, some questions that only Logos could answer, though. You are indeed right about that.

Yes, you are right to see them differently now. They might not see their role any differently since they're continuing to do what they've done before, but the perception people have of them has suddenly changed now that they've got the star under their name. So it's a sobering thought for them. They must live up to people's expectations. And they've taken on the risk that they will receive heat from users who aren't pleased with their answers, just as Logos does.

I think JRS was just joking about the Titanic, BTW. There are also times when the Logos tech support people might not be able to answer your questions. That is the nature of software. I've been frustrated by calling companies' tech support lines before. Logos techs are fantastic, but they're not infallible. There have actually been times when MVPs (or beta testers) have known more about the product than Logos employees! Can't find the thread now, but on the release date, one of the beta testers (who I'm pretty sure is one of the MPVs now) had to explain to the salesperson on the phone how the new licensing works. You no longer have to download the files from the website manually, as the salesperson was used to in Logos 3. Anyway, these MVPs have spent hours and hours with the product and they know it very well. And I'm sure they won't answer a question unless they know they've got the correct answer for you. So you can trust them. If they don't know the answer, they will find out for you or refer you to Logos.

Well now that you've gone this far. Yes it is sobering - as I stated earlier, I do feel I have something to attempt vainly to live up to here. Which is no doubt part of the reason to which Damian refers when he said some have thought about it....

That's probably what Logos are aiming for, especially in those times when they must concentrate their efforts on development, maintenance or document preparation, BBQ's etc.

In the past I have surmised a lot, posting possible rationale for Logos 4's design, company policies and direction. All this has been as an outside observer since I don't work for Logos (wish I did) and I was not a beta tester (wish I was.) The truckloads of personal opinion were based on nothing more than my skewed perspectives. Having that star under my name does make me think a bit more before posting. Maybe that is the only reason they gave it to me. [:#]

I can fully understand why the other MVPs are there; just not me. There is such an incredible amount of help they have given since the forum started (and before.)
