Rich Text Editor

Will someone please post a photo of what the rich text editor looks like in windows. I have seen it on my tablet, but do not see any difference on my laptop. Using the latest beta. Here is what mine looks like.

    Hi Lynden

This looks very much like mine - I have been advised that (for some reason) I didn't get access to the new editor in betas 1 & 2 but that the issue causing this should have been resolved in b3.

At the moment, it looks as though it hasn't been

Mine (running Beta 3) looks exactly the same as it always has. I am still not clear if the UI for the new editor is supposed to look different (in which case I still have the old one); or if the UI is still the same and changes in the new editor are all "under the hood". It would be nice to get clarification on this.

Here are two behavioral differences that I think will identify the new editor. At least I have them now and I didn't have them prior to the upgrade:

    1. If I select a Bible text that has references and paste it into a note, the title will have the pasted text with the foot note interspersed in it on separate lines. e.g. from NASB95 Gen 12:10 looks like this when pasted:

    Now there was
    a Gen 26:1
    aa famine in the land

    2. The spacing between a line and a bulletted list is tighter. In the old editor there was vertical space that preceded and followed the list and now there is not. Personally I like the fact that the space is gone but it does give you a perceivable difference. E.g.

    This is line 1
     * This is line 2 (list with no vertical space before or after paragraph)
    This is line 3

I don't recognize any visual difference by looking at a notes window.

    Hi Luke

    Thanks for those insights

so on that basis I am still using the old editor - which I feel gives a better result in this scenario[:)]

so on that basis I am still using the old editor -

That is the new editor since Beta 3. The 5.0 editor looks like this (note absence of footnote markers & tight spacing of the citation):-

Now there was a famine in the land; so Abram went down to Egypt to sojourn there, for the famine was severe in the land.

This is probably the easiest and more sure-fire way of telling which editor you have.

My beta account at home did not have the new editor in Windows 5.1 B2, but now does in B3.

The attached screen shot confirms it:

    Hi Alan

Can you please clarify what in the screenshot confirms the new editor?

    Thanks, Graham

The styling of lists/list items is the most dramatic visual change. The old editor (on windows) put extra space above and below lists. You can see in the provided screenshot that there is no space above the list.

Thanks Alan. Based on the appearance of the bullet lists I am using the new editor.

I doubt I will ever use the L5 note capability over L3...it would be like trading a power saw for a jagged flint. But let me add my support to the idea of removing all the "let-us-do-the-thinking-for-you" formatting options, such as automatically turning a hard carriage return into a whole (extra space added) new paragraph whether I want that or not. Honestly, if I want a new paragraph in my note I feel almost certain that with my college training and the grace of YHWH, I can successfully...wait for it...hit the return twice instead of once. I'm sure I could get that right at least 9 out of 10 times.

While you're at it, it wouldn't be a bad idea to remove it from this forum either. It causes all kinds of headaches, particularly when you are pasting in material from either Logos resources or a word processor.

    Thanks Alan - that's helpful

So I also have access to the new editor now[:)]

Copy and paste from Word still has all kinds of bugs- or whatever you want to call it- formatting goes to pot.

I can't speak for the forums but the new editor behaves as you seem to prefer (no space above/below paragraphs).

I would urge you to start a new thread with specifics (an attached Word doc and software versions/platform would be helpful).
