I created a Notes file, in which I have a note linked to the an entry in Strong's Enhanced Lexicon.  On the  Mac (Logos 5) hovering over the note brings up a popup window, and clicking brings up the reference.  But on iPad, nothing happens, even though the reference (Strongs+h 3570) is blue which would indicate there is a hyperlink there.

I have downloaded Strong's Enhanced Lexicon to the iPad. I can read it and navigate within by typing the reference number (H3570).  But the hyperlink from the notes document refuses to work.  What magic do I need to invoke to make this work.

I've done exactly the same thing with a different reference book and the hyperlink works as expected.

Hi Andy - and welcome to the forums

Andy Arkusinski:
I created a Notes file, in which I have a note linked to the an entry in Strong's Enhanced Lexicon.

How did you create the note?

I tried it by going to entry h3570 in ESL, right clicking it and selecting the add note option - this worked

If, however, I created a note manually and then created a link within it, when I pressed the link it opened the notes editor (which I would have expected)

More information.  This is from a different word.  I start with the ESV for Zeph. 1:7.  "Day of the Lord" links to Strong's H3117.  A click takes me to VCEDONTW entry for DAY. A right click gives me two Reference tabs: Strong's Hebrew #423 and Strong's Hebrew #3117.  I add a note to my notes document for each of these references.  Each note is hyperlinked to the corresponding VCDDONTW entry.

On the iPad these notes have a different hyperlink text.  Instead of Strong's Hebrew #3117, it is Strongs+h 3117.  The hyperlink text is blue.  For this example I did not use a title of body to the note.  VCEDONTW is downloaded to the iPad.  But touching the hyperlink has no effect.

I'm sure there is operator error involved somewhere.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, Graham.  I created the note the way you did.  See my followup note below.

Hi Andy

Andy Arkusinski:
A right click gives me two Reference tabs: Strong's Hebrew #423 and Strong's Hebrew #3117.

If I right-click on "day" I just get one reference (to 3117)

Are you doing / seeing something different?

Andy Arkusinski:
I add a note to my notes document for each of these references.

How exactly do you add these notes?

My starting point.  Hovering over H3117 at the bottom pops up the definition from VCEDONTW.  Clicking on it takes me to the reference.

I highlight the text in VCEDONTW and right click in the highlighted area, to get the following popup.  I then click on Add a note to ... to create the note.  I have since determined that (probably because of because of the way I highlighted the text), the previous word in VCEDONTW was included, and that accounts for the #423.

The notes document looks like this on the Mac.  Everything is as I expect.  Hovering over the hyperlink pops up the VCEDONTW text.

Here is how the notes document looks on the iPad.  I note the following differences from the Mac.

  • The hypertext link has changed from Strong's Hebrew #3117 to Strongs+h 3117
  • the note indentation has been lost

The bottom of the split screen displays VCEDONTW. Note that there is a hyperlink and it properly links back to the note document, as shown by the popup window.  I did touch the Edit note >> and the proper note opened in the editor.  (I'm not posting the screen shot to save space.)

The problem is that nothing happens when I touch the hyperlink in the notes document.  I would expect the bottom of the split screen to bring up the "DAY" reference in VCEDONTW, but that does not happen.

I was struggling with H3570 and managed to create a hyperlink that works properly.  Unfortunately, I tried many things at once and have not been able to reproduce my success.  (I created six notes and two of them worked.)  Below is a screen shot of what I expect to see.  Note the following:

  • There are two notes, both have the same hypertext.  The first ("Zephaniah may...") links to ESL.  The second ("This one...") does not.
  • Entry 3570 in ESL shows two links.  These properly link back to the two notes discussed above.  I verified by touching each and seeing the popup.
  • The hyperlink that works shows the ESL text highlighted and a target circle indicating the hyperlink was activated.
  • During my experiment mentioned above, I had six notes linked to this ESL reference, with two of them exhibiting proper behavior, so I don't believe the problem is related to having multiple links to a reference.

OK, so pasting an image into a post does not work.  Let's try this again.

Hi Andy

Thanks for the detailed response - it is very helpful

Andy Arkusinski:
Here is how the notes document looks on the iPad.  I note the following differences from the Mac.

I am doing this on Windows so may see some slight differences but they shouldn't affect the underlying issue.

Andy Arkusinski:
The hypertext link has changed from Strong's Hebrew #3117 to Strongs+h 3117

This does sometimes happen and I haven't got to the bottom of why. It may be the root of the issue or it may just be cosmetic. We would need Logos to comment on that

Andy Arkusinski:
the note indentation has been lost

Did you create the indentation manually? I don't see this when the note is automatically generated on Windows

Andy Arkusinski:

I can reproduce this and agree that what you are expecting is what should happen.

Hopefully with the detailed reproduction steps you have provided someone from Logos will be able to look at this and comment further.

If no-one turns up shortly (bearing in mind it is the weekend) we'll try and contact them.

Graham, thanks for validating my experience.  The frustrating part is that in some cases it works properly and in others it does not.  That kind of bug is difficult for the developers to find and fix.  At least it does not seem to be dependent on system configuration, since you were able to reproduce it.

Yes, I used the indentation button in the notes editor.

Hi Andy

I created another post with a BUG prefix (http://community.logos.com/forums/t/71036.aspx) referencing this one, hoping that someone from Logos will pick up on it.
