Difference between BHS WIVU and BHS SESB?

Anybody knows if there is a difference between...

...BHS WIVU and BHS SESB?

...WIVU Morphology and SESB Morphology?

It's because I am a little bit confused owning the SESB 3 and upgraded to logos4/5 mac. All the posts I have read couldn't really answer my questions (and were from 2010/2011).

It's not about the WIVU Syntax search (which the DBG/German Bible Society might update in the future) or the Constituency Tree - only about the Morphology.

Thanks for all replies

The BHS SESB is a newer version of the same database and generally better (the way the Qere/Kethiv was handled introduced a few errors not found in BHS/WIVU (which doesn't do anything with the Qere data), which I trust will be fixed when we get updated data, but in general, the BHS SESB has newer, improved analysis). There are some differences in how pronominal suffixes are handled (i.e. keeping them in the same segment as the word they are attached to versus splitting them into their own segments) that have to do with things we did to BHS/WIVU when we thought we might be using it for reverse interlinears or other alignment tasks (which we never ended up doing). And, of course, the BHS SESB has the critical apparatus indicators.

I should perhaps add that there are two BHS SESB 2 resources (there was some reason why GBS didn't want to increment the version number when we got the last data they sent), and the one that is actually the latest release is the one with the internal file name of BHSSESB, not BHSSESB2 (since the critical apparatus could only link to one version, the idea of using separate resource IDs for new versions of BHSSESB had to be abandoned unless we were also going to start making new critical apparatuses for each morph update - a lot of extra work). So if for some reason you have both, I'd recommend hiding BHSSESB2 so you're not confused by the matching titles.

    @Vincent:

Reading this thread, I wasn't confused before (=ignorance) but now I am majorly confused (=enlightenment).

So you're saying only the SESB version has Qere/Kethiv and apparatus, and there is a newest version BHSSESB, not BHSSESB2 ...

I had always assumed I had both with my BHS (LLS:WIVUMORPH 2012-10-12T01:14:41Z). I haven't gotten down to doing BH work with Logos yet, but made this assumption based on the advertising. Search WIVU on logos.com and you'll see what I mean.

Would I get BHSSESB by buying GBS Student Bundle? [As much as I can, I want to avoid being in a situation with both BHSSESB and BHSSESB2]

Yes. There are other Hebrew Bibles you didn't ask about that have K/Q analysis (like our LHB and the 4.2 version of the Westminster database - I think the Westminster 3.5 and the 4.0 had it as well, but those older releases have other issues, so long-time customers who have those are better off just hiding them, as well as the un-numbered BHSMORPH (really Westminster 2.0), and just using the latest - just be aware that if/when we release the 4.16 (it's done... just waiting on the business people to tell me we're good to go), that is a higher version number than the 4.2, so don't treat it like a decimal and hide the wrong one!), but BHS SESB is the only one with the critical apparatus.

The GBS Student Bundle should ship with the correct file.

    Thanks for the info! [:)]

    1. I will probably get the GBS bundle.

    2. The whole thing about WIVU is not so clear in the product pages and base package descriptions. Looking through the product catalog, I thought I had K/Q and apparatus with my LLS:WIVUMORPH resource, but now I know this is not the case. Maybe some clarity is needed for new buyers.

P.S. I was not the OP, just that the title of this thread caught my attention.

Thank you very, very much for your response/explanations! I would have asked next what's about the two SESB files... :-) But your second post did answer this too. Thanks!! Lars

FYI, I bought that 1.5 months after your posts above, and I still got both files.

To make it even more confusing, the two files come with exactly identical metadata. The only way to tell them apart is to open both, switch over to the resource info, look at the support info, and attach a tag from there, which you can then see in the Library...

But thanks for the explanations, at least now I know which one to hide.[:)]
