Bible, always Bible.

2 Peter 3:18  But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.

Job has some truly profound insights to share. It isn't complete, but it is a great starting point. It doesn't hurt that it may have actually been written before Moses completed the Tohraah. The point I made in another thread about adopting YHWH's perspective if someone wishes to understand prophecy and Scripture in general...that's one of the major themes of Job. In the end, Job's perspective was utterly irrelevant, though he did personally get something important from the experience.

Tozer's Attributes of God is somewhat mystical, but nonetheless very good. His Knowledge of the Holy isn't in Logos, unfortunately. Stephen Charnock is something of a classic, of course. MacArthur's God: Coming Face to Face with His Majesty is typical MacArthur fare - solid, but sometimes a little stodgy. Pink On the Nature of God is similar.

You also have a number of excellent chapters in Systematic Theologies, too.

Frame's Doctrine of God is well-thought of. I don't own it but it has gotten high marks, including an EPCA Gold Medallion in 2003. It is massive, like Charnock. Unfortunately in Logos it is only available in a collection.

I'm not sure why this important resource has not found its way into Logos. I hope they can rectify this in the future.

I could have sworn that Knowledge of the Holy was in the Tozer collection, but apparently it slipped through the cracks.

Apparently The Attributes of a God is a licensing issue. The Wordsearch Tozer collection doesn't include it either.

Christian Theology by Millard Erickson has some very good chapters on the nature of God.

Note that the 3d edition is in pre-pub so you may want to hold off on this one for a bit.

+1 I recently studied these chapters for a theology class, and thoroughly enjoyed Erickson.

Peace, Mike!               My textbook for "Doctrine" at Concordia Lutheran Seminary in St. Louis, Missouri in the 1960's was:

Pieper - Christian Dogmatics - Attributes of God ...

My all time favourite!    *smile*                    My Logos Edition from Concordia Publishing House is:

[1] Pieper, F. (1953). Christian Dogmatics (electronic ed., Vol. 1, pp. 427–428). St. Louis: Concordia Publishing House.

I'm glad you've posted since it reminds me to go back and take a good, hard look again at my basic indoctrination from a long time ago ..

I'm enclosing a .docx file on the attributes of God section in case you wish to peruse it ...

Hope this is helpful and hope that you might enjoy seeing where some confessional Lutherans "are coming from," eh???

Here are my two suggestions. The first is not for the beginner or intermediate student. The second is fine for either.

My thanks to the various MVPs. Without them Logos would have died early. They were the only real help available.

Yes  I would have to agree.

But I would add Thomas Oden's The Living God, (Volume One of his three volume systematic theology.)

And also Volume one of Martyn Lloyd-Jones Great Doctrines of the Bible

Calvin's Institutes of the Christian Religion.

BOOK ONE

The Knowledge

of God the Creator

CHAPTER I

The Knowledge of God and That of Ourselves Are Connected. How They Are Interrelated

1. Without knowledge of self there is no knowledge of God

Nearly all the wisdom we possess, that is to say, true and sound wisdom, consists of two parts: the knowledge of God and of ourselves.3
