Where are the options to set up the sync for reading history between devices. Example; between my Mac and my iPad?
Welcome to the forums! [:)] I assume your name isn't really 132936. [:P] (it's just a little forum bug. Your name will appear... Sometime)
There isn't any options to set up reading history sync... It just happens. I suspect you mean syncing of locations. Is that right?
Thanks for the reply. Reading locations. It is not happening as far as i can tell. I wifi and cellular on both devices. The sync icon is spinning when pressed and is grayed out. [^o)] Thanks again,,,, Tim
Pick a book that you have NEVER opened before on ANY device. Turn to the start of chapter 5 (or any chapter). Allow L5 time to sync. Open the book on your iOS device... It will open to chapter 5.
That did work. Mac open first then open iPad. Great! How do you make it sync from the device back to the Mac? it have tried opening a new book on the iPad, then going to the mac and opening the same book. No sync from device to mac.. Thanks for your help! Tim
The problem isn't syncing... Indeed it is, and both ways. The problem is with your understanding of what Logos calls layouts. (You are in good company with that one... Not many understand how it works).
If you want to open up resources where you left off, you must make sure to open the book from the library, and NOT from a layout. On the mobile app, the book should be considered to be in a layout if the book is in either of the two panels. (Even if one of the panels is hidden).
I may create a new thread soon with a proposal for a major change. Personally, I think the status quo stinks. [:s]
I just re-read your last post. Did you try the experiment with a second brand new book? It should have worked, although the sync sometimes takes longer.
*Bump* on the original post. ..
When are we going to get syncing of recent history between devices? Is stupid that I cannot set down my tablet and pick up my phone and view the recent passages I've been reading. I work on messages as well as daily reading. Sometimes what I looks at last is not where I left off. Sometimes I need to look through my recent list to remember where my reading plan left off.
Please work on this feature.

I don't understand this part of your post
Reading plan status should sync between devices.
Please clarity the exact issue here.

I don't know about calling it "stupid." Can you name other apps that do this well? I can't. Is it a feature I want? Yep.
Did you read my posts above? Perhaps later I will hunt down some comments I have made about "layouts" and "projects."
Okay, it's not stupid (from another post and replying to another user)... But very inconvenient.
Graham,
When I say "My reading plan" I do mean precisely that, my own reading plan, and not a preset reading plan set up for me. I have my own method of reading through the Bible which I really enjoy.
Inbetween reading through the Bible for devotion, I also engage in a lot of Bible study for ministry and for writing. As such, I have to search through my history to figure out where I left off reading for my own quiet time.
Because I have so many devices, including my laptop, it is difficult to remember which device I used for reading and which I used for study. As a result, I find myself gathering both tablets and my phone to figure out where I left off.
Additionally, sometimes I remember something from studying that "pops" back into my head. I then search my history to figure out where that was. When I have 3 devices plus a computer - well, that makes it very difficult to search through all these devices.
I really want a sync'd history. I've been asking for this for years....
I just tried opening a book from the library, vs. opening through history, and it did sync that book to the last place I read it on another device.
For me, for Bible reading, this is also not practical. I switch Bible versions daily. My memory isn't good enough to remember which of the 30 Bibles I own I was reading at the time.
Hi Derek
Thanks for the clarification - still not sure I fully understand. Some thoughts / questions below
Ok - so you're not using the "Reading Plan" documents in Logos to manage your readings at all.
Have you tried using Favorites at all for this? I would have thought that - with careful planning of how you use them - this would help here.
Favorites might also help here - although I'm not quite sure I understand the issue.
Personally I find the information provided by the History panel isn't a huge help as trying to work back to any particular point (even on one device) is a real challenge. But I appreciate this won't help your issue[:)]
My understanding is that history syncs between laptop/desktop environments but not currently to mobile devices and I don't know of any plans in that area
Sorry, can you clarify the issue here, please?
Graham
Re: the last point. Someone had mentioned opening a book through the library instead of opening through recent list... That would sync the last read page...
For me, I have too many Bibles to remember which Bible I left off reading last...
From observation if, in your Library, you "Sort by Recent" the same information is displayed, in the same order, across mobile devices (I checked this on my iPad and Android phone). This suggests that this information is synched - but it doesn't seem to be synched to Logos 5.
See comment from Dylan regarding this - http://community.logos.com/forums/p/83072/582303.aspx#582303
Don't know if this helps you at all.
