Design suggestion: Links default to 2nd pane when split

When using the app in split pane mode, I would suggest that when tapping on a link (be it Scriptural or not), the linked book or reference be opened in the other pane. That way you can continue to look at the text where the link occurs, but read the newly opened link reference as well.

That happens from the other panel (e.g. commentary) if the main panel is a bible and it is partially showing, but when the jump is made both panels will navigate to that reference if they are linked. That does not happen if the main panel is hidden. This logic does not work with jumps from the main panel.

So my main concern with the request is to ensure that both panels do not navigate to the reference e.g. ignore panel linking.

David recently opened an "inquiry" case about changing this behavior and I just edited it to include links to both this thread and the other thread linked here. Panel linking isn't my area of expertise, so I can't say much more about it than that, but I wanted to let you know your suggestion had been heard.

The idea I am suggesting in general is that the app behavior be thought out in terms of someone reading a book (be it the Bible or any other book), and using the other pane (regardless of whether the other pane is on top or on bottom, left or right) to read links from that book to other resources. The interconnected nature of Logos is one of the things that makes Logos great, but it doesn't work well on the Android platform (including the fact that links to non-Biblical resources simply don't work when offline, but that is another problem).

The most typical example is Bible + Commentary (which works somewhat well, with the exception of double hopping, when the links in the Commentary are Biblical), but other combinations do not work well at all as the links to other resources always open in the same pane.

The petition to open the link in the other pane only applies, of course, to links that reference a different resource than the one where the link occurs.
