Earliest document for a particular Bible text

Hi there,

Let's take Mathew 18:8 as an example. I will like to know what is the earliest uncial, papyrus, codex, parchment, etc, that includes that text. Where can I find that info? I have; Comfort, P. W., & Barrett, D. P. (2001). The text of the earliest New Testament Greek manuscripts. Wheaton, IL: Tyndale House., in my library but the verse used as an example is not within the collection of earliest documents included in that book. I also have Codex Sinaiticus but, Can that be used as the earliest document that contains that portion of bible text? I think not but I just asking.

When I open a new "bible" tab, logos automatically list "bible" resources in my library that contains that particular verse. For example I also got Codex Bezae listed as well but that doesn't mean that that's the earliest document right?.

It is possible to obtain that information within Logos? If not where can I get that kind of info?

Until and if Logos includes all manuscripts as Bibles, it's not going to be possible through tools like the parallel resources menu or Text Comparison.

I guess a critical apparatus would get you closest, but it would still require a fair amount of work to sort through the data, and even that depends on there being a critical issue to comment on. The Nestle-Aland apparatus lists several fourth century manuscripts (including Sinaiticus). But I don't know of any foolproof way of doing this.

It appears that Matthew 18 is not even included among the Oxyrhynchus papyri. It would therefore appear that the earliest texts would be those of the great 4th century uncials, Sinaiticus and Vaticanus (listed in Tischendorf).

The fastest and easiest way to accomplish what you want is to use the CNTTS Apparatus. It lists every ms it knows for each verse and whether the text is extant for that verse or not. More info HERE. It is already available in BibleWorks and Accordance. It apparently was supposed to be available in Logos this fall but is still under development. Here is what Matthew 18:8 looks like:
