SUGGESTION: Add Author Information to the Resource Information Pane

Almost every reference book I buy has a brief author bio on either the back cover or inner jacket. This info may contain the titles of other books written by the author, their education, hobbies, etc. This info is especially helpful when reading a work by an author you aren't familiar with. I assume that almost every book Logos publishes (at least that's been written in the last 50 years or so) would have this excerpt.

Why not include it as a section in the Resource Information window for each book? For older works you could have a general bio for well known authors like Plato, Anselm, etc. This would be especially helpful as I read through things like commentaries which have different volumes written by different authors. Some authors I know, some I don't. I'd like to be able to read the same bio I can see on the back of the print edition.

On most of the product pages I look at I can see that Logos already has this author information. It usually appears in the "About" section on the product page when you are ordering a new book. (For example, scroll to the bottom of this page to read about author Wayne Grudem.)

The information is already there and Logos already has it, I'd just like to see that same information applied to the resource information window in my resources. In my personal opinion that would be more helpful than say "Search Fields" and "Indexes" which already appear there (at least for non-power users.)

I think this is a great idea. Would be very nice if Logos could add this. [:D]

This is a great idea. Since Logos is good in curating existing information, this could take the form of a resource (much like the saints resource) linked to from the resource info - then there's enough room to

    • give the short bio Logos has on its logos.com and vyrso.com sites
    • link to the logos.com author search result
    • link to author bios in respective resources, such as "Lexicon of Biblical Interpreters"
    • list the books by this author available in Logos/Vyrso with an indicator which ones are in the library and which not (this feature will pay for the whole thing since it generates the additional sales via "how come there's a resource by XYZ I don't own?")
    • even link to wikipedia

There has been discussion regarding this in the past - I seem to remember that (since Logos isn't always as fast in delivering on such ideas) some people argued for a crowdsourced effort on topics.logos.com and MJ.Smith built a couple of author profiles as a proof of concept.

    That would be excellent.

This is an excellent idea, and we're working on it (and even a few ideas that take it further). Look for it in upcoming releases and in improved online data linked from the product pages.

I don't have Logos 6 yet (still saving up for it) but I was wondering if the "Ask the Author" feature is what you were referring to here?

If so, is there an author bio available to read even if the author doesn't  have a Faithlife page?
