I was surprised to see that Select Works on the Westminster Assembly (32 vols.) doesn't contain a commentary on the Confession by one of the contemporaries of the Scottish Commissioners to the Westminster Assembly, David Dickson (a number of whose Biblical commentaries are either in Logos already or in CP).

It was re-published by Banner of Truth in 2007. Here's a few excerpts from an article on their site (by Dr John R. De Witt) entitled 'Truth’s Victory over Error: Why David Dickson’s Book is Important':

- "I believe the volume to be virtually indispensable in any serious study of the Westminster Confession"

- On his relationship with the Scottish Commissioners: "He knew them well, understood their thinking, and was in complete agreement with their theological convictions."

- "What this means, of course, is that Truth’s Victory over Error provides an extraordinarily significant window through which we can view the Westminster Confession in terms of the intent of those who composed it. In my judgment, no pastor, no serious student, can now claim to have studied that confession without taking account of the wise, gracious, clear-headed, uncompromising integrity and the profound learning of the great divine who provided us with this indispensable analysis of its teaching."

It would be great to have this in Logos. And it would seem to make sense to add it to this collection - it would certainly encourage some people who baulk at paying $90 for lots of anti-WCF works to raise their bids!

The digitised text is easily available online.

I know Christian is gone but any update on this Jesse?

J. V. Fesko writes about its importance in his excellent new Theology of the Westminster Standards:

"Dickson, by virtue of being alive during the period, was intimately familiar with the context of the Standards. Present-day commentators, on the other hand, stand at a significant disadvantage. Not only are they separated from the assembly by hundreds of years, but also they often have different theological questions pressing them and at times different philosophical assumptions, given that they live after, rather than prior to, the Enlightenment." (p. 24)

The Westminster Assembly collection is struggling in CP and I think adding a truly must-have resource like this would help - I'd certainly raise my bid!

Hi Stephen, I'll look into it and see if Christian was able to get anywhere with it.

Were you able to find anything out about this Jesse?

Let's make this happen. This is a season where the body of Christ needs to be preparing and discipling young men and fathers to be men of the book so that when Truth and Wisdom call upon us again we can go into the harvest with confidence.
