Word Lists - How to generate 'Gloss'
Hi there,
I want to use the Word List and the Flashcards feature but when I generate Word Lists (Greek or Hebrew) the 'Gloss column' is not filled. What am I doing wrong here?

What are you using as the source of your Word List?

Can you provide a few more details?
The screenshot below was generated creating a Word List for John 1 in the NIV. As you can see the Gloss column is filled in
- Which version of Logos software are you using?
- On which platform (Mac / Windows)?
- Which resource are you using and which passage?

Thanks for the quick reply. Some details:
- I am working on the latest Logos 5.2a SR-1 (5.2.1.0081) version on a Mac.
- I try generate a Word List on Filemon using the ESV (as an example), see screenshots below.

It works for me - results following your instructions except I entered Philemon 1-25.
I wonder if using a non-English UI causes it to try to gloss in the language of the UI ... not likely but ...

Or it may be a Mac-specific issue which, again, is unlikely.

I found the solution! When the program is run in Dutch the gloss feature doesn't work. Apparently the program setting should be in English to get this to work

Im not so sure - wouldn't users of a localized UI expect the glosses in their local language? AFAIK, the glosses come from a Logos-internal database (they could come from a free dictionary resource originally) and if so, the algorithm might look for a localized gloss and just come up empty until Logos fills the database with Dutch (and German, French, Swedish, Spanish, Portuguese...) glosses.

I would think they would expect it to be the language of the interlinear - another thread was trying to get Greek/Hebrew from the LXX.

Not to play George's card here, but I'd expect users to produce such word lists from the BHS (Hebr) resp. NA27/28/UBS4 or LXX (Greek) source and there's no interlinear involved.
If the word list is created from an interlinear, the glosses might come from this, however this somehow contradicts my understanding of "gloss", since the gloss to me is a rather context-free default translation (for some words, multiple of these) whereas the interlinear will choose one translation option that fits the context. But I may be wrong.
