Very funny, Alabama. Unknown because unreadable in the manuscript? Or unknown because it is a character that we don't recognize (only occurs here, for example) and thus don't know the meaning of?

My first guess was that the "Unknown Character" message in the SESB electronic edition of the apparatus seems to represent places in the printed edition of the BHS were either an unidentifiable sigla /mark was used are where siglum with unknown meanings were used in the apparatus of the BHS. It might also be were there is simple no unicode charater to represent the sigla / mark in question.
However now I am starting to believe that:
In the case of Job 5:10 the mark/sigla represents the 'Mugrash' accent mark on the word 'Mayim'. At, least it seems that way in the printed BHS and in another software I have access to (it might also be representing a revia).
In the case of Jeremiah 47:6 the "unknown character" appears to be representing a Tipcha accent
In the case of Hosea 11:6 the " unknown character" appears to be represent an Ethnachta at least when I look at the printed edition it looks that way.

Now, I really hope someone from Logos appears to clear this up. I am pretty sure that Mr. Vincent Setterholm would know the answer to this riddle.
These looks like 'notes' made by whomever keyed in this text in essence saying 'I don't know how to encode this'. Unicode doesn't have instructions for 'spacing' versions of Hebrew accents, for example. I'll fix this when I update BHS SESB. Thanks for the report.

You were onto to something! You found something I am not sure if anyone other user has encountered in the apparatus before. Think about it these issues must have existed in life span of Libronix, Logos4, and now Logos5. Those who keyed in the Apparatus must have known about them, but with all Logos' other projects, this is probably an issue that had been forgotten for some time now. So, this is a great find and now it will finally be fixed sometime in the future.

And the one day I peered into it, for some random reason (I can't even remember what it was now; oh yes, I was trying to find out why D-R translates Job 5:7a "Man is born to labour" when just about every other English translation I have translates that word "trouble" or "distress"), I found something that nobody else had recognized didn't belong there. It's like I'm a porch light that all the bugs swarm toward.
This is the story of my life. Seriously. Just about every time I use Logos I stumble across a bug or two that needs to be reported, hindering me from getting any real work done. It's such a pain. But I guess Logos benefits from getting all the bug reports.
