A statement in the Release notes of Alpha 9:

Indexing
•    A new “bible only” index will be created the next time the indexer needs to rebuild an index. This index is used for Bible searches and for upcoming features in Logos 4.0b for Windows.

Logos listens...what a great and responsive company... Big Smile

Thanks for the heads up. I have never read the Mac forum and I can't imagine there being much of interest there to read normally. Big Smile

Bill,

Not sure if this is your dry sense of humor but I'll give you a real answer.

Some users (during the beta) wanted to index the bibles separately so when doing a bible search you'd have the same speed advantage as the big "entire library" search  that is ALMOST ALWAYS faster than searching a half a dozen bibles.

and if it was just a joke....good one. Big Smile

Hi Robert, Could you explain this further?  I don't understand how a Entire Library search can be faster than a Bible search (though this has been my experience).  How do the searches work in L4? How will indexing Bibles only be different than indexing the entire library?  Thanks for any insight you can give.

Bruce,

I really don't have a good answer; only that Logos has said that doing "sub searches" is slower because of the nature of the original indexing....it's counter intuitive, but it's true....

The ONLY reason I search "smaller chunks" like collections is to make the hits managable to sort through and not have so many "junk hits...it's  not for speed.

Thanks Robert, I'm with you on the convenience of collection searches.

Wonder if anyone else can shed more light on this.

Bob,

You read me well: dry humor + a real request.

Thanks for the response!

Now, I'm excited about more indexing, too. Big Smile

I can speak on the entire library issue. The range takes longer because if first looks at the entire library and then screens to limit it to a range

And the ranges are different for each bible  eg. OT ranges vary. Very often "All Passages" is faster, particularly with a collection of English bibles. Though not necessarily desirable with an English word search, a morph term has a limiting effect on where the results will come from eg. lemma:Χριστός in Morph Search or <lemma = lbs/el/Χριστός> in Bible Search.
