I had a question on eventual PBB support in L4 that maybe someone knows the answer to;

I like many others have a lot of PBB files.  Will L4 offer a way for me to be able to move these files into L4, or will it rely on the author of the PBB to do the work and reissue? Reason I ask, I am not even sure where I got some of the PBBs by now; maybe they are all on StillTruth, but I am not sure.

I suspect the author will have to reissue, but it would be nice if I could do my own work!

Thanks!

nothing absolutely definitive yet.

I am still in hope that PBB can be built, added to main index, and that they would be fully funtional as regards to notes highlights etc, and given that one of the competitors products has been able to do this for the past 10 years I hope Logos fully grasp the opportunity.

I look forward to continue to produce the titles that are uneconomic for Logos to do as well as specialist niche areas of interest, and both we and Logos will benefit from it.

I would love it if there was a extension to the professional PBB model, so some PBB's could be s aubmitted and made locked at say $5, where Logos gets 50% of the selling price for the extra compiling/unlock bit, and the other 50% gets creditied to creator's account against future purchases/unlocks, those that produce content get their reward for their hard work, and you may also encourage/create small independant publishers to try Logos with no risk to either side.

The one thing they have said is that they will be compiled into the same format as other resources rather than having their own format.  That implies some additional functionality.

Nice idea if Logos doesn't become liable for checking copyright status.

Thanks so much for your thought, I expect it will work out ok.  Good news is most if not all the PBB authors are here anyway!

I was mainly thinking out of copyright stuff, but yes my thoughts are that copyright proof would need submitted at same time as the files as part of the process, and should not be Logos responsibility.

(I dont expect Logos to adopt this extension BTW)

I would love to see a big improvement in this area, I currently use another bible program that allows me to easily put my public domain titles into their format so that they become searchable, bible verses are hyperlinked, and they can be placed into collections, and all of this is in a free program.

I have over 900 public domain books in this system and it is great, but I would drop it's use in a second, if I could put these same public domain books in Logos 4 and search them, hyper-link verses and put them in collections, until than it is simply a matter of money and the fact that Logos does not produce these modules at any price.  Over a period of the next year or two, I hope to get all my public domain books into this program or Logos.  I have between 5-6000 books and have done about 900 in the last 4-5 months.

Make this affordable and let us put our own public domain books into Logos, so I have no need for another program.

In Christ,

Jim

Someone else has also requested that Logos's new PBB builder should allow us to make books of type "Bible"  -- either for public domain unusual versions we might find or our own translations, of at least certain portions. I know I've translated a chapter or two before in preparing a sermon, and it would be nice to be able to put that in Logos format and have it for future reference. Others more ambitious than I and with better language skills have translated longer sections. Having the type be "Bible" would mean you could do things with it that you couldn't with a normal book (Monograph). You could include it in Bible searches, for example, and link it to other works that are navigated by verse reference. I believe this other user was requesting this feature so he could check his translations for differences with others using the Text Comparison feature.

Jim are you using " the word" for your public domain books ?

Yes, I use The Word and  it works very well for a free software, I also give it away to those that have no software, but want to learn how electronix bible study can make things faster and easier.  If you have not tried it, give it a shot, it is not Logos, but it is very good searching books and having a bible right there too!

It takes time to put your own public domain books into it, but it is easy and anyone can do it.

Jim

I have a lot of Public domain books, happy to share with anyone wanting resources. The problem I have is, I cannot figure out how to get them from pdf to a type of file I can use. How do get pdf books into the word importer. I have not been able to figure that out.

Blair, please don't laugh at me, but I don't know how to use their import tool, but I found out how to make your own books within the system.  The average book takes me about 30 minutes to do and I have it forever and give it away to my friends.

You can find the info on how to build your own books and 100's of free modules on these three sites.

http://www.thewordmodules.com/index.html

http://www.theword.gr/

http://thefirstsixdays.com/twmodules.htm

These sites alone contain 700 free modules and are a real blessing for those that do not have Logos, but desire  to get started studying more effectively.

Hopefully some day I can be building these books for the Logos program, which is in a whole different class.

In Christ,

Jim

Jim,

Wow, as someone who has created about 50 PBBs, painstakingly correcting the text, adding Greek/Hebrew and tagging it for Logos, I would really like to know how you have been able to do 900 books in 4-5 months.

The keys for me have been I am disabled, I was hit by a truck while riding a bike and can not work a normal job, this helps a lot, I have a lot more time than most people and I make sure I do simple books that are easy to do, without many Greek or Hebrew words, and I do smaller books, I do not try to correct the books, so if they are not accurate in the source they will be wrong in the program.  I have no idea what it means to tag the books, so these books are not tagged.

My main purpose is to get these books searchable, with bible hyper-links, and in collections for my own use and the use of friends in my area.  My time is spent doing this and teaching others how to study the scriptures and starting home churches. I don't do much else. My wife works full time to support us.

Eventually, I am going to run out of easy books to do and things will go slower, but I hope to learn how to use the converter that has been mentioned.  Also time has gone by faster than I thought I have actually been doing it between 5-6 months.

From what I have seen building a PBB is alot different than doing the work I have been doing, as I said it is in a whole different class, you are comparing apples to oranges, if you look at how to build books for The Word you will see it is much easier than what you are doing.

In Christ,

Jim
