After a large update I now have a constant hd activity for about 15 mins every time I start Logos4. Checking  on the HD what is going on I see this file constantly being accessed: \Logos4\Data\<random numbers>\Updates\Metadata.db

The partial log file where it begins to access the hd looks like this:

2010-01-08 01:09:58.5625    9    Info    SyncManager    (1309ms) Uploading 3 items.
2010-01-08 01:09:58.5781    9    Info    SyncManager    (Timed) Downloading items.
2010-01-08 01:09:59.1875    9    Info    SyncManager    (605ms) Downloading items.
2010-01-08 01:10:03.5156    4    Info    ResourceMetadataUpdateServiceClient    Requesting all metadata newer than '2009-12-30T00:02:14Z'.
2010-01-08 01:10:07.7187    1    Info    OurTiledFrame    OurTiledFrame got the keyboard focus, so setting focus to the active panel.
2010-01-08 01:10:36.6093    1    Info    MainWindow    MainWindow activated.
2010-01-08 01:10:36.6093    1    Info    OurTiledFrame    OurTiledFrame got the keyboard focus, so setting focus to the active panel.
2010-01-08 01:11:30.6875    10    Info    ResourceMetadataUpdateServiceClient    2231 metadata info objects retrieved from service.
2010-01-08 01:11:31.9218    10    Info    ResourceMetadataUpdateServiceClient    Database updated with 2231 metadata info records.
2010-01-08 01:11:31.9218    10    Info    ResourceMetadataUpdateServiceClient    Checking metadata status against the library catalog.
.....

Then it ends with this:

2010-01-08 01:36:48.9062    10    Warn    LibraryCatalog    No metadata found for resource 'IPHONE-ENABLED'.
2010-01-08 01:36:57.1718    4    Warn    LibraryCatalog    No metadata found for resource 'RVI:NIVNT'.
2010-01-08 01:36:57.4375    10    Warn    LibraryCatalog    No metadata found for resource 'RVI:NIVOT'.
2010-01-08 01:36:57.6093    10    Warn    LibraryCatalog    No metadata found for resource 'RVI:NLTOT'.
2010-01-08 01:38:13.6250    10    Info    ResourceMetadataUpdateServiceClient    Checking for resource metadata updates in 06:00:00.

This happens every time I start L4. I think it even happened twice this morning after I left L4 running

I just restarted the computer and opened up L4 again and it is doing the same thing again. It really slows down the computer when its busy doing this thing

Does anybody know what this file is for or what it does: "\Updates\Metadata.db"?

I renamed it, restarted L4 and it created it back together with that 15-20 mins activity. After that I restarted L4 2 or 3 times and the constand hd activity is gone.

Also can anybody tell me if all those warnings in the log file:

Warn LibraryCatalog No metadata found for resource '<some id>

is a serious problem or if they can be ignored? Except those ones that I posted, there are quite a few more of them in my log

    Thanks

I spoke too soon. It has just started again. It's checking metadata again and slowing my computer down[:(]

I suspect that it contains metadata status as a basis for the regular checks that L4 performs. One of its drawbacks would appear to be the incessant warnings for "resources" that would not be expected to have metadata, such as the language reverse interlinear files RVI:xxxxx (*.lbsrvi). I get quite a few for LLS:APFTHLKENG, which is a resource I don't have!

Thanks for clarifying that Dave. At least my mind can be at rest regarding all those "metadata not found" warnings.[:)]

But I still have this problem with the constant checking of that file every time I start up L4. (Looking at the log I guess it will check every 6hours also if L4 stays on)

Is L4 programmed to do that every time it starts?

I also noticed something in the log.

Every time L4 starts the log gives this:

ResourceMetadataUpdateServiceClient    2231 metadata info objects retrieved from service.
    ResourceMetadataUpdateServiceClient
Database updated with 2231 metadata info records.
    ResourceMetadataUpdateServiceClient
Checking metadata status against the library catalog.

If I delete "metadata.db" then I get this the first time it gets created:

ResourceMetadataUpdateServiceClient    2233 metadata info objects retrieved from service.

    ResourceMetadataUpdateServiceClient
Database updated with 2233 metadata info records.

    ResourceMetadataUpdateServiceClient
Checking metadata status against the library catalog.

After I restart L4 a few times without problems it gets back to the same thing as the first log. (Notice the figures in bold)

Do you have an older computer?  I've had this problem in the past. I have a 4 year old laptop, and I assumed it was a system performance issue.

However, it doesn't seem to affect me as much now. I'm not sure what changed, but I just restarted Logos and it didn't do a metadata check.  I'm running the latest beta (4.0b beta 2).  You could try that if you're inclined.

The other option, which I used when I was having performance problems with metadata updates and sync updates, was to turn off "Use Internet" in the Program Settings window.  That made it snappy, but of course I had to turn it on to get updates.

You could also attach a full log file to your next post.  It might help diagnose any problems.

    Hi Todd.

The machine I'm using is quite fast enough for Logos4. I didn't have any problems with L4 being slow or anything. Everything was working fine until I received that 2.1gb of updates.

But just as suddenly as this problem came it mysteriously disappeared again.[*-)]

I have closed and opened L4 for about 10 times now and it's not doing that metadata update anymore.
